What is Asset Protection? Asset protection is a focused security solution to protect specific tangible assets. Usually these assets are things that people consider valuable, have a probability of theft or should not be tampered with.

What is the 5870API? Honeywell’s 5870API is a wireless asset protection sensor designed to guard against burglary and theft. It affixes to any valuable requiring protection within a home or business, including paintings, flat screen TVs and other electronics, family heirlooms, office equipment and more. The 5870API is an ideal solution for early warning notification or alarm verification.

How does the 5870API Work?

The 5870API uses patented Micro-Electro-Mechanical System (MEMS) Accelerometertechnology, which senses acceleration in the X and Y axis. When affixed to theprotected asset, the device will trigger a “detect” if an attempt is made to move ordisturb the asset. The 5870API is intended for use with Honeywell alarm systems thatsupport 5800 Series wireless devices. The transmitter is fully supervised and can sendalarm, tamper, trouble and low battery conditions to the alarm control panel.

How Does it Work? The 5870API uses Honeywell’s Patented MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems)accelerometer technology. MEMS is the integration of mechanical elements, such as levers and actuators, and electronics on a common silicon chip. The chip weincorporate in the 5870API uses an accelerometer to detect movement. Theaccelerometer is the foundation of the asset sensor and can detect movement in both the X and Y axis.

When the 5870API is affixed to the protected asset, the device will trigger a “detect” if an attempt is made to move or disturb the asset.

Where Should it Be Mounted?The device should be mounted in an inconspicuous place on the asset away frompublic view. Mount the sensor on a stable area on the asset away from vibration.Try to avoid mounting near speakers, fans or motors.

Is it Easy to Install/Enroll? Simply pull the battery tab to enroll the transmitter, peel the adhesive backing tape and secure the 5870API to theasset in the desired location. Because the mode of operation is controlled by the loop that is enrolled you canremotely change the level of security (via the downloader) if the security needs change.

Can it Be Used on Existing Wireless Installs? Yes. The 5870API is a great opportunity to upsell to existing customers and should be offered on new installs as well.

What Mode of Operation Should I Use?The mode of operation that is selected (loop) is based on the asset the sensor is affixed to and the level of securitythat is desired. In most cases Standard Security Mode (Loop 2) should be selected.
