Homework 5- Apply design thinking August 24th 2013
Task 1: 3 takeaways The top 3 takeaways
While I learnt a lot –these are the 3 key takeaways
1.Understanding the real
problem/need is key
I loved the empathy map – I thought it was such a cool way to get to the insight
2. Everyone is creative
Do not let barriers allow you to believe that your ideas are not good enough
Choose an environment which make you feel creative – I love sitting in my work space and using colored post its, marker pens to ideate
3. Doing things in teams and a specified time works best
I realised the need of interacting with my learning squad in all exercises, Sadly, we did not do so, but I used my family to help
Task 2: Process map Graphic map/representation of the
design thinking process as you experienced it
The process map as I see it
5
Improving the idea by testing it again & again
Defining the real need/ problem by putting yourself in the place of the stakeholder- I love the Disney example!
Thinking of options without restraint-I just loved the options to use for thinking of ideas
DecidingWhich idea works best by building a prototype and sharing asap in even a very un finished form
I see it as a continuous process with an end point
Task 3: Ideate and prototype ways to
apply design thinking to your context:
A reflection about how design thinking skills and mindsets could be applied to
problems you care about (at your work, school, community or at home), and
more broadly to your field or industry )
Using it in my business
My work involves creative thinking and I love the brain storming tips- I will use them definitely
Till date, I always wanted to share the output with anyone when it was complete- now I am willing to share it before so that I am not defensive about it.
I have just started a business and this will help me to empathize with the real need of my client
A lot of times clients state the rational need but they do have a personal need and to be a trusted adviser, I need to understand that- I think using the empathy map will help a lot
My proposals will have a ‘real’ perspective
Thank You
