1.0 About Maulana Azad National Urdu University Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) is a Central University, established by an Act of Parliament with all India jurisdiction in 1998. The headquarters and main campus of MANUU is in Gachibowli, Hyderabad. It is spread over 200 acres. MANUU is recognized as a major higher education service provider across the remote areas of the country for marginalized and first generation learners of Urdu medium through its regular and distance mode programs. MANUU commenced with distance education programs in 1998 and consolidated its academic and research base in Urdu medium regular programs in 2004. The University is named after Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, a scholar par excellence, a prolific writer, an inimitable orator, a gallant freedom fighter, a visionary of the post independent Indian education system and an architect of technical and scientific education in Independent India. Presently, MANUU is in the process of consolidating the existing institutions, while expanding it to reach the unreached through various intervention measures. Further, to meet the rising aspirations of its youth in general and Urdu speaking community in specific, the University is making considerable progress in all fronts of academics, research and governance with specific vision, mission and objectives. Vision To provide access to quality education through Urdu as medium of instruction, while adhering to the inclusive policy. Mission To empower socially, economically, educationally and culturally marginalized sections of society so that they are brought into the mainstream, and thereby contribute to the socio-economic development of the nation through formal and non-formal mode of educational delivery. Mandate The Mandate of the University is:
To promote and develop the Urdu language;
To impart education and training in vocational and technical subjects through the medium of Urdu;
To provide wider access to people desirous of pursuing programs of higher education and training in Urdu medium through teaching on the campus as well as through distance mode and
To focus on women education.

2.0 Directorate of Distance Education To achieve its mission of bringing socially, economically, educationally and culturally marginalized sections of society into the mainstream, the University has initiated distance mode programmes from its year of inception through Directorate of Distance Education popularly known as DDE. The objectives of Directorate of Distance Education are:
To provide quality education to Urdu Speaking population at their door-steps.
To integrate non-conventional Urdu learners with formal education system.
To empower Urdu learners especially women by imparting quality education.
To help learners acquire higher qualification for better career growth.
To generate feeder group for the PG and research programs of MANUU on-campus mode.
To enhance the gross enrolment ratio (GER) based on market needs, gaps and trends in addition to
the societal demands.
The Directorate of Distance Education, MANUU operates through Regional and Sub Regional Centres located in 11-states of India. Each Regional/Sub Regional Centre (RC/SRC) provides academic and administrative support to distance learners through Learner Support Centres (LSC).

The Regional and Sub Regional Centres of Directorate of Distance Education facilitate the ODL students with support services, management of Study Centres and admission process. In the year 2017-2018, Directorate of Distance Education had 158 LSCs within the purview of its RCs/SRCs. In its endeavour to modernise itself and enhance quality for the benefit the ODL learners, DDE has introduced Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) framework for UG & new M.A. programs. DDE has vigorously started adopting ICT in its academic and administrative functioning. Admissions to all DDE programs are now being conducted through Online mode only. The University’s Instructional Media Centre is preparing video lectures to provide anytime, anywhere learning environment to the learners through its dedicated IMC YouTube channel accessible at http://youtube.com/u/imcmanuu. A large repository of audio-visual educational programmes has already been prepared by the Media Centre and the work to even produce more is in process. Soft copies of SLM are also being provided to the learners through University’s website. To improve communication between DDE and learners SMS facility is now extensively used to send alerts to students about various aspects of program delivery such as Course registration, Assignments etc. The post graduation, graduation, diploma and certificates awarded by the University are at par with the certificates of recognized Universities. Day-by-day the strength of the students is growing. Thus, the DDE is striving hard to reach the unreached.

4.0 Admission Procedure Admission to all programs offered by Directorate of Distance Education, Maulana Azad National Urdu University shall be made through Online Mode. The Admission portal can be accessed at http://manuu.ac.in/admissions/odl2018. Online applications must be submitted on or before Oct. 20, 2018. Following steps are to be followed for submitting the Admission Form:
Register yourself at http://manuucoe.in/DDEOnlineAdmission/index.php/main/registration.
This will generate a user name and password for the candidate which will be shared with the user
through email/SMS.
Login into the admission Portal at http://manuucoe.in/DDEOnlineAdmission/index.php.
Enter data as per the format given in the form.
Attach scanned copy of Proof of Studying Urdu Language as a Medium of instruction or as subject,
wherever applicable.
Attach scanned copy of date of birth proof. For example, X Class certificate or Aadhar Card.
Attach scanned copy of proof of passing the qualifying examination.
Attach scanned copy of your passport size photograph and signatures.
Select Program you wish to apply for.
Select program, Regional centre and Learner Support Centre. (Pl. note that you will be able to
select/update LSC preference in 1st week of November, 2018)
The above will complete the form submission process. However, admission will be subject to verification of scanned documents at Regional Centres/Sub-Regional Centres. You may also be asked to produce original documents for verification at later stage. This shall be binding on you failing production of original documents or non-satisfaction of eligibility criteria may lead to cancellation of admission.

5.2 Program Fee Structure The following is the Program fee structure for various programs for the Academic Session 2018-19: S.No Program Name Admission

2) Re-Registration Fee:
I. For Re-Registration with Self Learning Material (SLM), fee shall be same as given above. II. For Re-Registration without Self Learning Material (SLM), fee shall be reduced by Rs. 1,000/-
from the fee given in the above table.
5.3 Fee Refund policy If withdrawal request is received before the Last Date of admission i.e. Oct. 20, 2018 full
refund shall be made.
If withdrawal request is received within 30-days from the last date of admission i.e. Oct. 20, 2018, Rs. 1,000/- + Admission Fee + Registration fee shall be deducted.
If withdrawal request is received after 30-days from the last date of admission, i.e. Oct. 20, 2018 full fee shall be forfeited.
5.4 Cancellation of Admission In case of cancellation of admission due to wrong eligibility claim or incomplete documents
or incorrect documents provided by candidate, full fee shall be forfeited.
Cancellation due to withdrawal of Program by the University due to any reason, full fee shall be refunded.
If admission is cancelled by the university on disciplinary grounds or any other reason, full fee shall be forfeited.

6.3.1 Diploma in Journalism and Mass Communication
Course Structure Introduction to Program: In the present age of electronics, Journalism is gaining importance. News through Internet is also pervading among the viewers of television. Hence, news through Internet is rapidly gaining importance thereby giving a new direction to the field of Journalism. In the present scenario, a large chunk of trained journalists are required in different fields of media. This is creating new opportunities in the field of Journalism and Communication. This course will help the aspirants in preparing themselves for career in journalism.

6.3.2 Diploma in Teach English:
Objectives of the Programme Teach English, a one-year Diploma programme, is designed to help students and teachers of English to improve their proficiency (both spoken and written) in English and enable them to become quality teachers of English. The programme will be particularly useful to teachers of English in Urdu medium schools and colleges. Eligibility: Any graduate or equivalent is eligible for admission. Duration: The course is of one-year duration. However, it may be completed in two years. Course Content: The Self Learning Material (SLM) is divided into four Courses, each of 20 units:
I. Structure of Modern English - I II. Structure of Modern English - II III. Methods of Teaching IV. Classroom Techniques
Counselling and Support Services: The study material will be dispatched to the student by post on confirmation of admission. No counselling classes are required. However, the students may contact the programme coordinator at Directorate of Distance Education, Headquarter (Hyderabad) through E-mail at [email protected] to clarify their doubts. Scheme of Examination: The Annual Examination consists of 4 papers each of 100 marks.
6.4.1 Certificate in Proficiency in Urdu Through English
Objectives of the Programme: The main objective of this programme is to acquaint people with Urdu language. The programme has been so devised that persons who have basic knowledge of reading and writing English language will be able to learn Urdu. This programme will also be helpful to those who are closely associated with academic institutions like libraries, archives, academies and museums. It will open up avenues for low skilled technicians in film industry, T.V. and Radio. Programme Content: The programme consists of two papers of 100 marks each. Paper - I : Units 1 to 18 (Urdu Script, Basic Vocabulary) Paper - II : Units 19 to 28 (Basic Vocabulary, Grammar and Specimens of Prose & Poetry) Duration of Programme: The duration of the programme is six months. But the students, according to their convenience, can complete the programme within a maximum period of two years. Admission Criteria: The Candidate should be acquainted with English and should complete 18 years of age by 31st August of the admission year. Counselling and Support Services: Study material will be dispatched to the students by post on confirmation of admission. No counselling classes will be conducted. 6.4.2 Functional English for Urdu Speakers
Introduction to Program: The basic purpose of this program is to train urdu speakers to enhance their speaking and writing abilities in English language by improving their grammar, pronunciation etc. No counselling classes are organized in this program. However, SLM is provided to the learners. Program Structure:
1. As per the UGC and Distance Education Bureau (DEB) policy, a candidate enrolled in a degree programme under regular mode may pursue a maximum of one diploma/advance diploma/PG diploma/Certificate programme from distance mode simultaneously. Two programmes under distance mode are not allowed simultaneously. However, a candidate can pursue two programmes simultaneously through distance in the following combinations:
One degree and one diploma/PG diploma/Certificate.
One PG diploma and One diploma/Certificate
One diploma and One certificate
Two PG diplomas
Two certificates
Note: The University will not be responsible if there is a clash in the date and timings of counselling or examinations when a candidate pursues two programmes simultaneously.
2. University reserves the right to withdraw any course/program if minimum number of candidates are
not available.
3. While filling up Online Application Form ensure that the Mobile Number and Email address provided by you belongs to you. Communication between Learner and MANUU shall be predominantly through these modes and non-access to email and mobile phone will lead to inconvenience at later stage.
4. Also note that for the benefit of its learners, MANUU is in process of adding more Learner Support Centre to the list of LSCs provided on the University portal. While filling the Online Application Form Choose candidate may choose LSC of their preference from the list provided.
5. The selection of LSC at this stage shall be provisional. Subject to feasibility of running LSC, MANUU at its discretion, may change the LSC to an alternate place at a later stage.
6. Learners will be given a choice to choose LSC of their preference from the added list of LSCs in 1st Week of November. The choice will have to be made on Online for which link shall be provided through email/SMS.
7. The University arranges the counselling classes for any course/paper when there is a minimum of 15 students enrolled at Learner Support Centre for that year. If the number is below 15 for a course/paper in any Learner Study Centre, then counselling will not be arranged for that course/paper. If there are 15 or more students enrolled in a particular course/paper at a study centre but the attendance is below 10 for three consecutive counselling sessions, the University shall not allow counselling.
8. For counselling classes student should remain in contact the Study Centre Co-ordinator.
9. For any academic purpose, you may contact the Course Co-ordinator(s) at the Head Quarters available on the website.
10. No change in programme/course will be entertained after submission of Online Admission form.
11. Self Learning Material shall be despatched in the month of November-December, 2018. An SMS alert shall be send to candidate after the despatch of SLM.
12. All fee relating to re-admission, re-registration, backlog clearance, etc. shall be remitted through Online transaction only. No other mode shall be acceptable. For paying various types of fee please visit http://manuu.ac.in/DDE/feepayment.
9.0 List of Leaner Support Centres The Directorate of Distance Education, MANUU is in process of entering into Memorandum of Understanding with various degree colleges/HEIs that satisfy the minimum eligibility criteria laid down in the UGC ODL Regulations, 2017 for establishment of LSCs. The list will be regularly updated in the Prospectus as well as on the Admission Portal. Candidates may choose from the present list of LSCs. However, they will be able to select and finalize the LSC of their choice during 1
