Most of them without pay, but I am thinking retirement shouldn’t be a job, just saying. It goes without saying that I will miss the action and everyone that I have worked with during my tenure in the BIA, both as a member and the EVP. I am confident that the BIA is in good hands with your staff and the board of directors along with the housing industry is moving in a positive direction to continuing recovery, which will help to grow your businesses and our economy. I am not planning on leaving the area, at least in the near future and I am sure that our paths will cross again. Greetings BIA members:
This is my last newsletter as your BIA Executive Vice President.
This has been a wonderful journey for me since 1998 and especially these last
six and half years. I have been blessed with an experienced BIA staff that many
of my counter parts have not enjoyed. Beverly and Leslie are the best and will
be a tremendous asset to Jon as he begins his tenure as the BIA’s CEO.
The countless number of individuals within the BIA over the years and an equal number of
individuals in our community that I have had the pleasure (well in a very few cases it wasn’t that
pleasant) to meet and work with I will remember and contribute to a fond and lasting memory of
my time with the BIA. This industry like many others I suspect has its share of characters too.
This interaction and relationship with all of the above individuals, including a few of the
characters, is and has been the most rewarding aspect of working in the industry and for the
association. We have worked together during some extremely difficult times enduring the greatest
down turn in housing history (what was I thinking?), yet we survived as did many of our
members. Sadly we lost as many members during this downturn, but we are slowly recovering
and will continue to grow, especially with all of your help and support.
Bringing the two associations back together after 25 years of operating independently in 2009
was a positive move and it better aligned the BIA in the business community in Manatee and
Sarasota. With the cooperation of leadership from both associations allowing a smooth transition
and creating a new and positive atmosphere for the members was a pleasant surprise.
As I move on to a completely unfamiliar phase of my life, wondering what to expect, what to do is
a bit nerve racking, but exciting as well. Everyone wants to know, what are you going to do? I
don’t really know, but think it is like on the job training (OJT), I will find out each day, probably a
lot of “honey do’s” in my future. I am certainly getting a lot of offers for things I could do after April
30th, but most of these “offers” sound like a full time JOB! Most of them without pay, but I am
thinking retirement shouldn’t be a job, just saying.
It goes without saying that I will miss the action and everyone that I have worked with during my
tenure in the BIA, both as a member and the EVP. I am confident that the BIA is in good hands
with your staff and the board of directors along with the housing industry is moving in a positive
direction to continuing recovery, which will help to grow your businesses and our economy.
I am not planning on leaving the area, at least in the near future and I am sure that our paths will
cross again. It has been my pleasure to serve the members, the association and the community
and it is my sincere wish for each of you much success and good health going forward.
Thank you for your friendship and support.
