Home Energy Conservation Checklist This checklist outlines actions that conserve energy within homes: Turn down the temperature of your water heater to the warm setting (120˚F). Survey your incandescent lights for opportunities to replace them with compact fluorescent lights. Turn off lights in unoccupied rooms. Turn off your computer monitor when not in use for more than 20 minutes, and turn off both the CPU and monitor if you’re not going to use your computer for more than 2 hours. Unplug equipment that drains energy when not in use (i.e. cell phone chargers, fans, coffeemakers, desktop printers, radios, etc.). During winter, open curtains on your south-facing windows during the day to allow sunlight to naturally heat your home, and close them at night to reduce the chill. Clean or replace filters in your furnace, air condition- er, and heat pump. Close the damper when the fireplace is not being used. Keep the thermostat at the lowest comfortable setting during winter. Keep the thermostat at the highest comfortable set- ting during the summer. Make sure no obstacles, such as furniture, are block- ing heating or cooling outlets. Home Energy Conservation Checklist

This checklist outlines actions that conserve energy

within homes:

What is the Heating Appliance Repair and

Replacement Program (HARRP)?

Some items that can be done with the HARRP are:

Repair or replace existing heating system

Test for carbon monoxide

Install vented space heaters

Tune ups

HARRP is used in conjunction with the Weatheriza-

tion Assistance Program and is funded by the Low

Income Heating Energy Assistance Program

(LIHEAP).

Assistance Program

Who is eligible for the Weatherization

Assistance Program?

Eligibility for services is based upon accountable

income of the applicant family - which is based on

up to 200% of the U. S. Family Poverty Index.

What is the Weatherization Assistance

Program?

The Weatherization Assistance Program operat-

ed by Yadkin Valley Economic Development Dis-

trict, Inc. (YVEDDI) is designed to help low-

income people particularly the elderly and the

disabled, overcome the high cost of energy,

through the installation of weatherization or ener-

gy conservation measures - at no cost.

How does the Weatherization

Assistance Program work?

The program consists of four steps:

1. An application to determine income eligibility.

2. An energy audit of the home by a profession-

al inspector.

3. Installation of weatherization measures.

4. A final inspection to ensure work quality

Who is eligible for the Heating

Appliance Repair and Replacement

Program?

Eligibility for services is based upon accountable

income of the applicant family - which is based on

up to 150% of the U. S. Family Poverty Index.
