CARBONDALE — An old rivalry will be renewed Tuesday when the Saint Louis University Billikens visit SIU Carbondale at Itchy Jones Stadium for a 5 p.m. contest.
SIUC enters their mid-week contest against the Billikens with a 22-25 record. The Salukis were riding a five-game winning streak prior to getting swept by Valparaiso over the weekend.
Saint Louis U., on the other hand, swept a series against George Mason over the weekend, bringing its 2019 record to 24-25. The Billikens are looking to
move back to .500 for the first time since they were 11-11 on March 23.
The Billikens are 14-51 all-time against the Salukis.
Sophomore Colin Townsend will take the mound for his first start in a Billiken uniform. In 34.1 innings pitched, the right-hander is 0-2 in 2019 with a .3.41 ERA. Townsend has struck out 29 batters in his 17 appearances.
For the seventh time this season, lefty Brad Harrison will make the start for the Salukis. He’s appeared in 12 games overall, putting his record at 2-1 with a 3.25 ERA. Harrison has struck out 33 batters in 36.0 innings pitched.
Edwardsville High grad Jake Garella, with a .322 average, is one of four Billikens hitting for better than a .300 clip
for the season. Garella tied SLU’s single season double record with No. 22 in the first inning during Sunday’s game. He hit two
more later in the game, now leading SLU with 24 doubles.
Cole Dubet is looking to build off of his monster
weekend against the Patri-ots. The reigning Atlantic 10 Player of the Week went 10-15 (.667) with two home runs, three doubles, 10 RBIs and seven runs scored. He had 19 total bases in the weekend series.
Freshman Cam Redding (.319) has consistently been at the top of the Billikens batting leaders all season. He’s hit seven doubles in 2019, to go along with 25 RBIs and 27 runs scored.
Senior Alex Lyon leads SIUC in hitting, with a .264 batting average. The utility man has started in 44 games, smacking five home runs, ten doubles, 25 RBIs and 30 runs scored.
Philip Archer is tied with Lyon for the team-lead with five home runs. The junior infielder is batting .255 with 24 RBIs and 31 runs scored.
Billikens set to visit Salukis
SLU AthleticsJake Garella of Saint Louis University, an Edwardsville High grad, leads the Billikens with 24 doubles and is hitting at a .322 clip.
