Seasonal Sentence God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3.16 The Gathering of The Community (Page 230) Celebrant: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. All: And with thy spirit.

Celebrant: Let us pray. All: Almighty God, unto whom all hearts be open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of thy Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love thee, and worthily magnify thy holy name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Summary of the Law Celebrant: Our Lord Jesus Christ said: hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is one Lord; and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it: thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. All: Lord, have mercy upon us, and write both these thy laws in our hearts, we beseech thee.

Lord, have mercy upon us. Christ have mercy upon us. Lord, have mercy upon us. The Collect (Page 292) Celebrant: Let us pray. Gracious Father, whose blessed Son Jesus Christ came from heaven to be the true bread which gives life to the world, evermore give us this bread, that he may live in us, and we in him, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. All: Amen.

The First Reading: Numbers 21:4-9 From Mount Hor they set out by the way to the Red Sea, to go around the land of Edom; but the people became impatient on the way. The people spoke against God and against Moses, "Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the

wilderness? For there is no food and no water, and we detest this miserable food." Then the Lord sent poisonous serpents among the people, and they bit the people, so that many Israelites died. The people came to Moses and said, "We have sinned by speaking against the Lord and against you; pray to the Lord to take away the serpents from us." So Moses prayed for the people. And the Lord said to Moses, "Make a poisonous serpent, and set it on a pole; and everyone who is bitten shall look at it and live." So Moses made a serpent of bronze, and put it upon a pole; and whenever a serpent bit someone, that person would look at the serpent of bronze and live. Reader: The Word of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God. PSALM 107:1-3,17-22 (Page 852)

1 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, and his mercy endures for ever. 2 Let all those whom the Lord has redeemed proclaim that he redeemed them

from the hand of the foe. 3 He gathered them out of the lands; from the east and from the west, from the

north and from the south. 17 Some were fools and took to rebellious ways; they were afflicted because of

their sins. 18 They abhorred all manner of food and drew near to death's door. 19 Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their

distress. 20 He sent forth his word and healed them and saved them from the grave. 21 Let them give thanks to the Lord for his mercy and the wonders he does for

his children. 22 Let them offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving and tell of his acts with shouts of joy. Gracious creator of heaven and earth, your Word has come among us as the true Sun of righteousness, and the good news of his birth rhas gone out to the ends of the world. Open our eyes to the light of your law, that we may be purified from sin and serve you without eproach for the sake of Jesus Christ, our Light and our Life. Amen. The Second Reading: Ephesians 2:1-10 You were dead through the trespasses and sins in which you once lived, following the course of this world, following the ruler of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work among those who are disobedient. All of us once lived

among them in the passions of our flesh, following the desires of flesh and senses, and we were by nature children of wrath, like everyone else. But God, who is rich in mercy, out of the great love with which he loved us even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ - by grace you have been saved - and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the ages to come he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God - not the result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are what he has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life. Reader: The Word of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God.

The Gospel Reader: The Lord be with you. All: And with thy spirit.

Reader: The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John (3:14-21) All: Glory be to thee, O Lord.

Jesus said, "Just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Those who believe in him are not condemned; but those who do not believe are condemned already, because they have not believed in the name of the only Son of God. And this is the judgement, that the light has come into the world, and people loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil. For all who do evil hate the light and do not come to the light, so that their deeds may not be exposed. But those who do what is true come to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that their deeds have been done in God. Reader: The Gospel of Christ. All: Praise be to thee, O Christ.

If anyone sin, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. 1 John 2.1,2

Let us humbly confess our sins to almighty God.

All: Almighty God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Maker of all things and judge of all people: we acknowledge and confess our manifold sins and wickedness, which we from time to time most grievously have committed, by thought, word and deed, against thy divine majesty. We do earnestly repent, and are heartily sorry for these our misdoings. Have mercy upon us, most merciful Father; for thy Son our Lord Jesus Christ’s sake, forgive us all that is past; and grant that we may ever hereafter serve and please thee in newness of life, to the honour and glory of thy name; Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Celebrant: Almighty God, our heavenly Father, who of his great mercy hath promised forgiveness of sins to all them that with hearty repentance and true faith turn unto him: have mercy upon you; pardon and deliver you from all your sins; confirm and strengthen you in all goodness; and bring you to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. All: Amen.

The Peace Celebrant: The Peace of the Lord be always with you. All: And with thy spirit.

Please greet one another with a sign of peace.

Offertory Prayer over The Gifts (Page 293) Celebrant: God of mercy and compassion, your Word calls us home to faith and love. Accept all we offer you this day, in the name of Jesus Christ the Lord. All: Amen.

Eucharistic Prayer B (Page 243) Celebrant: The Lord be with you. People: And with thy spirit.

Celebrant: Lift up your hearts. People: We lift them up unto the Lord.

Celebrant: Let us give thanks unto our Lord God. People: It is meet and right so to do.

It is very meet, right, and our bounden duty, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto thee, O Lord, holy Father, almighty, everlasting God, creator and preserver of all things.

Who hast bidden us thy faithful people to cleanse our hearts and to prepare with joy for the paschal feast; that reborn through the waters of baptism, and renewed in the eucharistic mystery, we may be more fervent in prayer and more generous in works of love.

Therefore with angels and archangels, and with all the company of heaven, we laud and magnify thy glorious name; evermore praising thee and saying: All: Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of Hosts, heaven and earth are full of thy glory. Glory be to thee, O Lord most high. Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord: Hosanna in the highest.

Please kneel or sit as you are able.

Celebrant: All glory be to thee, O Lord our God, who didst make us in thine own image; and, of thy tender mercy, didst give thine only Son Jesus Christ to take our nature upon him, and to suffer death upon the cross for our redemption.

He made there a full and perfect sacrifice for the whole world; and did institute, and in his holy Gospel command us to continue, a perpetual memory of that his precious death and sacrifice, until his coming again;

who, in the same night that he was betrayed, took bread; and when he had given thanks to thee, he broke it, and gave it to His disciples, saying, “Take, eat, this is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”

Likewise, after supper, he took the cup; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink this, all of you; for this is my Blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you, and for many, for the remission of sins. Do this, as oft as ye shall drink it, in remembrance of me.”

Wherefore, O Lord and heavenly Father, we thy people do celebrate and make, with these thy holy gifts which we now offer unto thee, the memorial thy Son hath commanded us to make; having in remembrance his blessed passion and precious death, his mighty resurrection and glorious ascension; and looking for his coming again with power and great glory.

And we most humbly beseech thee, O merciful Father, to hear us, and, with thy Word and Holy Spirit, to bless and sanctify these gifts of bread and wine, that they may be unto us the body and blood of thy dearly-beloved Son Jesus Christ.

All: We praise thee, we bless thee, we thank thee, and we pray to thee, Lord our God.

And we earnestly desire thy fatherly goodness to accept this our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving, whereby we offer and present unto thee, O Lord, ourselves, our souls and bodies. Grant, we beseech thee, that all who partake of this holy communion may worthily receive the most precious body and blood of thy Son Jesus Christ, and be filled with thy grace and heavenly benediction; and also that we and all thy whole Church may be made one body with him, that he may dwell in us, and we in him; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord; By whom, and with whom, and in whom, in the unity of the Holy Spirit all honour and glory be unto thee, O Father Almighty, world without end. Amen. The Lord’s Prayer Celebrant: And now, as our Saviour Christ hath taught us, we are bold to say, People: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Breaking of the Bread People: We do not presume to come to this thy table, O merciful Lord, Trusting in our own righteousness, But in thy manifold and great mercies. We are not worthy So much as to gather up the crumbs under thy table. But thou art the same Lord, Whose property is always to have mercy: Grant us therefore, gracious Lord, So to eat the flesh of thy dear Son Jesus Christ, And to drink his blood, That we may evermore dwell in him, And he in us. Amen.

O Lamb of God, that takest away the sin of the world: have mercy upon us. O Lamb of God, that takest away the sin of the world: have mercy upon us. O Lamb of God, that takest away the sin of the world: grant us thy peace. Celebrant: The Gifts of God for the People of God. All: Thanks be to God.

Communion Prayer after Communion (Page 248) Celebrant: Let us pray,

All: We most heartily thank thee, almighty and everliving God, that thou dost graciously feed us, in these holy mysteries, with the spiritual food of the most precious body and blood Of thy Son our Saviour Jesus Christ; assuring us thereby of thy favour and goodness towards us; and that we are living members of his mystical Body, which is the blessed company of all faithful people; and are also heirs through hope of thy everlasting kingdom. And we humbly beseech thee, O heavenly Father, so to assist us with thy grace, that we may continue in that holy fellowship, and do all such good works as thou hast prepared for us to walk in; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with thee and the Holy Spirit, be all honour and glory, world without end. Amen. The Blessing

Lay Minister: This act of worship is ended! Our service in the world continues! Let us go in peace, to love and serve the Lord. All: Thanks be to God.

Seasonal Sentence God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3.16 Hymn 524 O Christ, The Great Foundation

O Christ, the great foundation on which your people stand To preach your true salvation in every age and land: Pour out Your Holy Spirit to make us strong and pure, To keep the faith unbroken as long as worlds endure.

Baptized in one confession, one church in all the earth, We bear our Lord's impression, the sign of second birth: One holy people gathered in love beyond our own, By grace we were invited, by grace we make You known.

Where tyrants' hold is tightened, where strong devour the weak, Where innocents are frightened, the righteous fear to speak, There let your church awaking attack the powers of sin And, all their ramparts breaking, with you the victory win.

This is the moment glorious when He who once was dead Shall lead His church victorious, their champion and their head. The Lord of all creation his heavenly kingdom brings, The final consummation, the glory of all things.

Welcome

Minister: Dearly beloved brethren, the Scripture moveth us in sundry places to acknowledge and confess our manifold sins and wickedness; and that we should not dissemble nor cloke them before the face of Almighty God our heavenly Father; but confess them with an humble, lowly, penitent, and obedient heart; to the end that we may obtain forgiveness of the same, by his infinite goodness and mercy. And although we ought at all times humbly to acknowledge our sins before God; yet ought we most chiefly so to do, when we assemble and meet together to render thanks for the great benefits that we have received at his hands, to set forth his most worthy praise, to hear his most holy Word, and to ask those things which are requisite and necessary, as well for the body as the soul. Wherefore I pray and beseech you, as many as are here present, to accompany me with a pure heart and humble voice unto the throne of the heavenly grace.

People: Almighty and most merciful Father, We have erred and strayed from thy ways like lost sheep, We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts, We have offended against thy holy laws, We have left undone those things which we ought to have one, And we have done those things which we ought not to have done; And there is no health in us. But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable offenders. Spare thou them, O God, which confess their faults. Restore thou them that are penitent; According to thy promises declared unto mankind in Christ Jesu our Lord. And grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, That we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to the glory of thy holy Name. Amen.

Minister: Grant, we beseech thee, merciful Lord, to thy faithful people pardon and peace; that they .may be cleansed from all their sins, and serve thee with a quiet mind; through Jesus Christ our Lord. People: Amen.

Minister: O Lord, open thou our lips; People: And our mouth shall show forth thy praise.

Minister: O God, make speed to save us; People: O Lord, make haste to help us.

Minister: Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; People: As it was in the beginning, is no, and ever shall be, world without end.

Amen.

Minister: Praise ye the Lord; People: The Lord’s name be praised. Venite, Exultemus Domino (Psalm 95, Page 6) O come, let us sing unto the Lord: let us heartily rejoice in the strength of our

salvation. Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and show ourselves glad in

him with psalms. For the Lord is a great God, / and a great King above all gods. In his hand are all the corners of the earth: and the strength of the hills is his

also. The sea is his, and he made it: and his hands prepared the dry land. O come, let us worship, and fall down, and kneel before the Lord our Maker. For he is the Lord our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep

of his hand.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Psalm 107:1-3,17-22 (Page 471) 1 O give thanks unto the Lord, for he is gracious, / and his mercy endureth for

ever. 2 Let them give thanks whom the Lord hath redeemed, / and delivered from

adversity; 3 And gathered them out of the lands, from the east and from the west, / from

the north and from the south. 17 THEY that are foolish are afflicted for their offence, / and because of their

wickedness. 18 Their soul abhorred all manner of meat, / and they were even hard at death’s

door. 19 So they cried unto the Lord in their trouble, / and he delivered them from

their distress. 20 He sent his word and healed them, / and saved them from their destruction. 21 O that men would therefore praise the LORD for his goodness, / and declare

the wonders that he doeth for the children of men!

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

The First Reading: Numbers 21:4-9 From Mount Hor they set out by the way to the Red Sea, to go around the land of Edom; but the people became impatient on the way. So Moses made a serpent of bronze, and put it upon a pole; and whenever a serpent bit someone, that person would look at the serpent of bronze and live. Reader: Here ends the reading.

Te Deum (Parts 1 & 2, page 7) We praise thee, O God; we acknowledge thee to be the Lord. All earth doth worship thee, the Father everlasting. To thee all Angels cry aloud, the Heavens and all the Powers therein. To thee Cherubim and Seraphim continually do cry, Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God of hosts; Heaven and earth are full of the Majesty of thy glory. The glorious company of the Apostles praise thee; The goodly fellowship of the Prophets praise thee; The noble army of Martyrs praise thee; The holy Church throughout all the world doth acknowledge thee, The Father, of an infinite Majesty; Thine honourable, true, and only Son; Also the Holy Ghost, the Comforter.

Thou art the King of Glory, O Christ. Thou art the everlasting Son of the Father. When thou tookest upon thee to deliver man, thou didst not abhor the Virgin’s

womb. When thou hadst overcome the sharpness of death, thou didst open the

kingdom of heaven to all believers. Thou sittest at the right hand of God, in the glory of the Father. We believe that thou shalt come to be our Judge. We therefore pray thee, help thy servants, whom thou hast redeemed with thy

precious blood. Make them to be numbered with thy Saints, in glory everlasting.

The Second Reading: John 3:14-21 Jesus said, "Just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. And this is the judgement, that the light has come into the world, and people loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil. so that their deeds may not be exposed. But those who do what is true come to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that their deeds have been done in God." Reader: Here ends the reading.

The Benedictus (St Luke 1. 68, page 9) Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for he hath visited, and redeemed his people; And hath raised up a mighty salvation for us, in the house of his servant David; As he spake by the mouth of his holy Prophets, which have been since the world

began; That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hands of all that hate

us; To perform the mercy promised to our forefathers, and to remember his holy

covenant; To perform the oath which he sware to our forefather Abraham, that he would

grant us That we being delivered out of the hands of our enemies might serve him without

fear, In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life. And thou, child, shalt be called the Prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go

before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways; To give knowledge of salvation unto his people for the remission of their sins; Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the day-spring from on high hath

visited us; To give light to them that sit in darkness, and in the shadow of death, and to

guide our feet into the way of peace.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

The Apostles’ Creed All: I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth: And in Jesus Christ his only our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, Suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried: He descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come again to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy Catholic Church; The Communion of Saints, The Forgiveness of sins; The Resurrection of the body, and the Life everlasting. Amen.

upon us. Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive them that trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Minister: O Lord, show thy mercy upon us; People: And grant us thy salvation.

Minister: O Lord, save the Queen; People: And mercifully hear us when we call upon thee.

Minister: Endue thy Ministers with righteousness; People: And make thy chosen people joyful.

Minister: O Lord, save thy people; People: And bless thine inheritance.

Minister: Give peace in our time, O Lord; People: And evermore mightily defend us;

Minister: O God, make clean our hearts within us; People: And take not thy Holy Spirit from us.

The Collect of the Day (Page 147) Grant we beseech thee, Almighty God, that we, who for our evil deeds do worthily deserve to be punished, by the comfort of thy grace may mercifully be relieved; through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. People: Amen. The Collect for Peace O God, who art the author of peace and lover of concord, in knowledge of whom standeth our eternal life, whose service is perfect freedom: Defend us thy humble servants in all assaults of our enemies; that we, surely trusting in thy defence, may not fear the power of any adversaries; through the might of Jesus Christ our Lord. People: Amen

The Collect for Grace O Lord our heavenly Father, Almighty and everlasting God, who hast safely brought us to the beginning of this day: Defend us in the same with thy mighty power; and grant that this day we fall into no sin, neither run into any kind of danger; but that all our doings may be ordered by thy governance, to do always that is righteous in thy sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord. The General Thanksgiving (Page 14) All: Almighty God, Father of all mercies, We thine unworthy servants do give thee most humble and hearty thanks For all thy goodness and loving-kindness To us and to all persons; We bless thee for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; But above all for thine inestimable love In the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ; For the means of grace, And for the hope of glory. And we beseech thee, give us that due sense of all thy mercies, That our hearts may be unfeignedly thankful, And that we show forth thy praise, Not only with our lips, but in our lives; By giving up ourselves to thy service, And by walking before thee in holiness and righteousness all our days; Through Jesus Christ our Lord, To whom, with thee and the Holy Ghost, be all honour and glory, world without end. Lord. Amen.

Anthem Cast Thy Burden Upon the Lord, F. Mendelssohn

Hymn 180 Giver Of The Perfect Gift Giver of the perfect gift, only hope of human race, Hear the prayer our hearts uplift trembling at thy throne of grace.

Though the accusing voice within speaks of many a wrong to thee, Thou canst cleanse from every sin, thou canst set the conscience free.

Who can save us, Lord, but thou? Let thy mercy show thy power; Lo, we plead thy promise now, now, in this accepted hour.

Oh! may these our Lenten days, blest by thee, with thee be passed, That with purer, nobler praise we may keep thy feast at last.

God the Holy Trinity, grant the mercy we implore; God the One, all praise to thee through the ages evermore.

Homily

Offertory Hymn 173 Creator of The Earth and Skies Creator of the earth and skies, to whom the words of life belong, Grant us your truth to make us wise; grant us your power to make us strong.

We have not known you: to the skies our monuments of folly soar, And all our self-wrought miseries have made us trust ourselves the more.

We have not loved you: far and wide the wreckage of our hatred spreads, And evils wrought by human pride recoil on unrepentant heads.

For this, our foolish confidence, our pride of knowledge, and our sin, We come to you in penitence; in us the work of grace begin.

Teach us to know and love you, Lord, and humbly follow in your way.

Speak to our souls the quickening Word, and turn our darkness into day.

Prayer Over The Gifts Minister: All things come from you, O Lord, and of thine own we give you. Blessed

Recessional Hymn 362 Tell Out My Soul Tell out, my soul, the greatness of the Lord! Unnumbered blessings, give my spirit voice; Tender to me the promise of his word; In God my Saviour shall my heart rejoice.

Tell out, my soul, the greatness of his name! Make known his might, the deeds his arm has done; His mercy sure, from age to age the same; His holy name – The Lord, the mighty one.

Tell out, my soul, the greatness of his might! Powers and dominions lay their glory by; Proud hearts and stubborn wills are put to flight, The hungry fed, the humble lifted high.

Tell out, my soul, the glories of his word! Firm is his promise, and his mercy sure. Tell out, my soul, the greatness of the Lord To children’s children and for evermore!

Minister: This act of worship is ended! Our service in the world continues! Let us go in peace, to love and serve the Lord. All: Thanks be to God.
