Holy Name of Jesus’ TREE OF LIFE Project

FAZtor ‘s Notes by Fr. Arnold Zamora Since I am submitting this arti-cle two weeks ahead of its publication, as per instruction from the people who publish our Sunday Bulletin, my news is not new anymore. By the time this reaches your eyes, it’s already history. But history is always precious, espe-cially when it is glorious. Much more if it is victorious, like winning the yearly basketball tournament against

St. Cecilia. The last time we won this tournament was 25 years ago, in 1986. So congratulations to our Holy Name Boys Basketball Team. Going back 1986, that was the year when I was ordained and this year will be my 25th year as a priest. I told this to somebody and he asked: “Father, did you say you are 25 years old?” Oh boy, I was flattered to the bones and was beaming with pride and with a smile that competes the rising sun at Sunset (District) thinking that he was finished with his sentence and that I heard it right. But, he continued: “you were 25 years old in 1986?” Still we look back history with a smile. We smile at 2010 and we face 2011 with a smile. Well, hap-piness is always a choice. When you get up in the morning, you can choose to be happy and enjoy the day, or you can choose to worry and go around with a negative attitude. When you wake up you can either say: “Good Morning, Lord!” of “O Lord, it’s morning again!” Time flies! We’re here for a moment, then we’re gone. Don’t waste any moment with useless worrying and fretting. Make the most of the situation. Choose to be happy! That’s what I admire of our dear Bishop Wang. When he discovered that his precious and expensive chalice was stolen from his closet in our Church sacris-ty, he handled it with a smile. And he said, “Before I used to worry about my chalice, now that it is gone, I don’t have to worry anymore.” He chose to be happy even when something precious was taken away from him. He also demonstrated the true spirit of detach-ment. With or without my chalice, I can be happy. Although it does not mean we just have to smile and do nothing. In fact, we called the police and filed a report. We will be changing the locks and for sure the security will be tightened this time. Even though this is a humiliating incident, I have to tell you so you will be aware of what’s happening in our church and you’ll take ownership of our church. Re-port any suspicious persons loitering around and in-side the Church property to the Priests or Staff.

Dear Holy Name Families, Thank you to Carolyn Brown (David Anthony, 4th grade) and Noreen Chan (Reyna, 4th grade), for directing Vision Screening for our school this year. Thank you for providing this important service for our student body. This Friday, January 21, is the end of the second quarter of the school year. It’s hard to believe that this school year is already half over. Please know that the teachers and staff members are always working hard to be sure that your children receive a good education in a safe and happy school environment. The mandated Arch-diocesan curriculum is often enhanced by creative pro-jects designed by our teachers. Our hallways are fre-quently festooned with the wonderful work your children produce. We have a number of activities being planned for the second half of the school year. Our Science Fair will be on the evening of February 1, followed by Open School, which will be on February 2 from 8:30-10:30. Our Chinese New Year’s Dinner will be on February 19. The sports fundraiser is the St. Patrick’s Dinner and Dance on March 5. This year, on March 25, we will have Grand-parents’ and Special Friends’ Day on the same day as our very popular Talent Show. We also have two more fundraisers on the calendar. The Math-a-Thon will be on February 25 and our second annual Silent Auction will be on April 9. More information on these activities and others will be coming your way. God bless the Holy Name community. Sincerely, Mrs. Judy Cosmos KINDERGARTEN APPLICATIONS Applications are available in the school office. If you have a child who is ready to start kindergarten in August please call the office for an application form. HOLY NAME SCHOOL FREE FORUM presented by FIL-AM Club The Fil-Am Club of Holy Name presents a free forum on “Taking Care of Your Kidneys” on Saturday, February 5, 2011, from 10:00 to 11:00 am in the Flanagan Center. Are you or anyone you know at risk for chronic kidney disease (“CKD”)? It can be a silent problem – the symptoms are not always obvi-ous. Learn more from this free forum, a community event hosted by the Fil-Am Club. Increase your awareness of this disease that affects one out of every 100 Americans today, and learn ways to protect your kidneys through nutrition, treatment and medication. Presenters are Dr. David Law, a kidney spe-cialist from Kaiser Permanente in practice since 1992, and Ms. Erlinda Camins, a Filipino dietitian from Kaiser Tracy. Dr. Law will provide an introduction on kidney health and disease, how to check for kidney problems and how to manage your health to protect your kidneys. Dr. Law will be available after the lec-ture to answer questions, including how to track pro-gress by understanding kidney lab test results. Ms. Camins will talk about general nutritional guides to cooking kidney-friendly recipes, maintaining proper portions, and managing your diet to ensure a healthy kidney. Bring your favorite recipes to the fo-rum and learn how to turn your home-cooked dishes to kidney-friendly meals! This event is free to everyone. Refreshments will be served. For more information, call Ramsey Ramos, R.N, PHN at (415) 205-4609.
