ROUTING AND SWITCHING ESSENTIALS
COURSE SYLLABUS Course Code : 6ROUTING Prerequisite : 6NETFUN Course Credit : 3 Units (2 hours LEC,4 hours LAB) Year Level: 2nd year Degree Program : BSIT with Area of Specialization in Network Administration Course Description:
This course describes the architecture, components, and operations of routers and switches’ basic functionality in a small network. Students will learn how to configure a router and a switch for basic functionality.
By the end of this course, students will be able to configure and troubleshoot routers and switches and resolve common
issues with virtual LANs, inter-VLAN routing, static routing and single-area OSPF routing in both IPv4 and IPv6 networks. Students are also expected to perform network setup, configuration, and troubleshooting. Integrate basic network security,
and implement IP addressing services. At the end of the course, students will be able to:
Course Outcomes Graduate Outcomes Aligned to

Develop and implement solutions from given specifications
C3 Test compatibility with existing and legacy IT solutions when applying routing and switching configuration commands, IP addressing (IPv4 and IPv6) to switch and router devices of different IOS version.
BSIT 6: Integrate IT-based solutions into the user environment effectively. Test compatibility with existing and legacy IT solutions
C4 Switching and Routing Select, use, and adapt appropriate practices in the following:
1. techniques in “configuring” switch and router devices;
2. Methodologies in “setting up a physical network” from a given logical topology;
3. Standards/framework in “cabling set up” and“addressing;
BSIT 7: Apply knowledge through the use of current techniques, skills, tools and practices necessary for the IT profession Select, use and adapt appropriate techniques, methodologies, standards/frameworks, methods and tools to complex computing activities
C5 Raise issues and concerns that are experience as a team when performing the actual setup and configurations of the devices in order toseek consensus resolutions for troubleshooting.
BSIT 8: Function effectively as a member or leader of
multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams, recognizing the different roles within a team to accomplish a common goal. Raise issues and concerns to the team in order to seek consensus resolutions
C6 Reflect on own abilities and skills through taking the Online and Offline chapter exams, final online and offline assessments, skills assessment, and through providing course feedbacks at each end of the course to determine necessary development needs to reach the level of expectations and aspirations in becoming a network specialist
BSIT 13: Recognize the need for and engage in planning, self-learning and improving performance as a foundation for continuing professional development. Reflect on own abilities and skills to determine necessary
development needs to reach level of expectations and
aspirations
