A good entry again this week. Stronger feeding cattle
in short supply and a top price of £1400 was achieved
by Messrs TW Owen & ML Vanstone of Holsworthy for a 26mth South Devon steer with others from the
same farm £1290 & £1265. Simmental steers from Mr
FR Bown of Okehampton hit £1290 (2). Hereford
steers from Mr P Timms of Northlew realised £1280
(2). Angus & Limousin steers from Mr SO Metherell
of Welcombe £1265. A strong trade for those older
heifers with flesh, 3 Simmentals from Mr BJ Yelland of
Holsworthy sold well at £1235. A shapely British Blue
from Mrs A Boundy of Woolsery made £1210. Native
heifers topped at £1125 for a Hereford from Mr P
Timms of Northlew, Aberdeen Angus rose to £1090 for a heifer from Mr SO Metherell of Welcombe. Younger
16-18mth Continentals again sold well, 17mth British Blue steers from Mr AW Pomeroy of Bradworthy hit
£1105 & £1040 with plenty of other Continental steers £1050+. There are several bunches of cattle starting
to look stale, with the best of the grass gone vendors should consider supplementing diets or moving
them now before they slip! It was a noticeable £50-£80 easier for those cattle lacking in condition.
