Holiday Traditions and MemoriesMemories and traditions offer an opportunity to reflect on the importance of the relationships we have with our loved ones and the significance they play in our lives. We hope you enjoy the following holiday memories from your Tiny Tots staff.

The house our family lived in did not have a fireplace. My parents would construct a cardboard fireplace in our living room, complete with a red light for flames. My parents convinced my sister and I that even though we did not have a chimney, it would not stop Santa Claus from coming. Jackie (deliveryman since 1990).

Making fudge has been an annual tradition since I was young. My brother and I would both want to lick the bowl. I’m currently re-thinking a more body friendly recipe. Karen (office since 2000).

Spending quality time with my family has been the highlight of my holidays. Mark

(on-line orders & boutique since 1990).

In 1979 I escaped Vietnam by boat and left my family. I was able to reunite with my mother and five sisters almost 10 years later but my dad passed away. I think about this daily with thanksgiving but in a bittersweet way. Hai (deliveryman since

1987).

We celebrated Hannukah by lighting a candle each night for 8 nights. My mother used to say she loved it when Hannukah was after Christmas because of the good sales she could find on gifts. Jay (office since 1980).

On Christmas Eve we read the biblical story of the birth of Jesus found in Luke 2. Then we opened gifts. This way we heard the true meaning of why we were celebrating. My mother-in-law would tell us how she delighted as a young girl to receive an apple and walnut in her stocking! Her one gift was a beautiful hair ribbon. Swedish Spritz Cookie Press cookies are a ‘must have’ during the holidays. Mary (office since 1978).

My wife and I decided to cut our own tree for Christmas. We found “our” tree only to realize we hadn’t brought supplies to cut it down. We ended up at a Christmas tree lot by our house and purchased a pre-cut tree. The next year, we purchased an artificial tree and have used it ever since. Ed (deliveryman since 1989).

My mom would bundle my siblings and I in the car on Christmas Eve and we would drive around looking for Santa and the beautiful

Christmas lights. I’ve continued this tradition with my daughter. Pamela (office since 1987).

A bird flew into our house on Thanksgiving day. We kept her as a pet and I named her Kiwi (she was yellow). Last year, on Christmas Day, my mom, grandmother and I went to Disneyland. Ashley (boutique since June, 2008).

My favorite holiday is Chinese New Year. We would get new clothes and shoes. Friends and relatives would get together and share good wishes and great food. As a kid, we would receive ‘red pockets’ (money) from adults! May (controller since

1991--the ‘red pockets’ were the beginning of May’s account-

ing career).

My mother-in-law thinks of something we can do to focus on those less fortunate. Last year, we adopted a family that had 5 children. We purchased gifts for each member of the

family. Jared, my 4-year old son, enjoyed participating and it helped him to take the focus off of what he would receive and put it on what he could give. Macy (boutique

since March, 2008).

My family would go to the mountains the weekend after Thanksgiving and chop down a Christmas tree. The kids loved picking the tree and screaming “timber”! For Thanks-giving, everyone makes the same dish every year. This is fun as we are all a part of the day. Amanda (boutique since 2007).

My favorite tradition for Halloween is that my daughter chooses her favorite 10 pieces of candy and leaves the rest for the Great Pumpkin. In exchange for the candy, the GP has left her $10 each year. We get together with our siblings on Christmas day and do a “white elephant” gift exchange. Shannon (currently

educational services coordinator and at Tiny Tots since 1982).

One Thanksgiving my parents got an old hood of a car, turned it upside down, tied it to the back of their car and pulled us through the cemetery in the snow. My favorite holiday tradition is singing Christmas carols before we open our gifts. Sherry

Our boys would bake a cake (with help) and we would enjoy a birthday party for Jesus. They also painted a dinner plate (at Petroglyphs) of a memory from that year. We still use these plates daily (they are in college now) and they are a heartwarm-ing reminder of past memories. Tim & Judy (currently General

Payment Options At Tiny TotsPayment can be made either by check or credit card. Many of our customers put their account on auto charge. Anytime there is a balance on their account, the credit card we have on file is automati-cally charged. Our customers still receive a bill stating the items charged. We accept Visa, MasterCard or American Express. Customers paying by check put

their payment in a used envelope and tape it to the outside of their bag of soiled diapers for pick up or arrange for on-line bill pay through their bank.

Due to increased vacation holds during the holidays, it is likely that your drop off will be earlier than normal. Please set your soiled diapers out the night before your delivery day. If you need to schedule a vacation hold for any or all of these weeks, please notify us at least 3 working days in advance of the delivery you would like to change.

Easy Label Audit For Your Diaper CountAn easy way to have us audit your diaper inventory is to write a 2-word note on the label on the soiled bag before you set it outside - “25 left”, or whatever number of clean diapers are left in your home. These labels are cut off the diaper bag and turned into the office after the soiled diaper counter counts your bag and writes the count on the label. When we add up the number left + the soiled count + the number of diapers delivered that day, we can determine if your rotation is correct. Some customers do this every week. Some do it once a month. **If you are on two or more types of diapers, please note which size you are audit-ing (25 Reg left, 10 Mega left).

Pre-Holiday Purging Helps The NeedyWhen you’re cleaning your closets and toy room consider a donation to an organization from Sonoma county called Second Chances. They pass on your donations to families that need assistance. If you have child-related furniture items that you’re ready to donate, p l e a s e b r i n g t h o s e t o o u r boutique. Toys and clothes can be picked up by our drivers along with your soiled diapers. Bag & label them “Second Chances” and set them next to your diapers.

DISPOSABLE DIAPERS & WIPES

The only single-use diaper on the market today that doesn’t contain super absorbent gelling chemicals (AGM) is Tushies. They are a healthier single-use diaper than the Seventh Generation, Nature Boy & Girl, Ten-dercare Plus, the G Diaper, Whole Baby Diapers from Whole Foods, and the mainstream brands. Free Picture CD & Sitting with Santa! Tuesdays December 2 & 9 and Saturdays, December 6 & 13 from 10 am to 12:00 noon and 2:00 to 4:00 pm. Families and additional cameras are welcome. Due to the popularity of this event and minimize long wait times, we are transitioning to an appointment system this year. As a way of expressing our appreciation for your business, customers currently on or recently graduated from the diaper service will receive priority sign-up status.

Instructions for signing up for an appointment are as follows for current diaper service users and alumni. On Tuesday, November 4 through Thursday, November 6 from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm call 408.866.2925. You may also come in to our boutique during these dates and times to sign-up. We will ask you for your name, diaper service account number, number in party, ages of children and contact phone & e-mail. To speed up the sign-up process, please have this information ready prior to calling us. If you do not know your account number, we will try to confirm your account with either your last name or phone number.

Beginning on Saturday, November 8, sign-ups will be open to the general public and can be made by coming in or calling 408.866.2925 during normal boutique hours.

Child Passenger Safety Events Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital, Safe Kids Santa Clara / San Mateo and Tiny Tots are partnering to hold Car Seat Installation events on Mondays, November 3 and December 1 from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon. Certified car seat technicians will be here to check your car seat and confirm it is installed properly. Appointments are necessary and limited. Call the boutique for more information and to sign-up.

Pre-Holiday Sale wil l occur at our Boutique from November 10 to 15. You will receive 30% off all regularly priced children’s clothing and 10% off all toys. Our hours during the sale will be from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm and our classroom will be set up with multiple gift wrapping stations for either self wrapping or we will wrap for you.
