‘Tis the Season•The holiday season begins almost as soon as Halloween is over. •The Holiday Season traditionally includes Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Thanksgiving•Thanksgiving is a very special day for families. •Students have Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday off from school.
Wednesday: The Day Before
•The Wednesday before Thanksgiving is very busy! •That day, families begin cooking their Thanksgiving dinners.
Wednesday: Giving•There are many people who do not have enough food to eat on Thanksgiving. •The Wednesday before Thanksgiving is also a big day for donating food to churches and homeless shelters.
Thursday: Thanksgiving Day•On Thanksgiving morning, families watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade on TV.•Often, families will begin cooking the turkey while they watch the parade.•Parade: Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

The Christmas Season•Many department stores begin decorating for the holidays, playing Christmas music, and offering big sales.
Christmas Traditions
During the Christmas season, people..
(1) Listen to Christmas music,
(2) decorate their homes,
(3) and bake lots of Christmas cookies!

Christmas Eve Dessert
•In addition to Christmas cookies, my family also makes a type of Polish cookie called “angel wings.”
Christmas Morning Food
•In the morning, families open presents.•They also eat breakfast food, such as cinnamon rolls.
Christmas Dinner
•Most families eat ham, mashed potatoes, and vegetables for Christmas dinner.
•For dessert, families eat more Christmas cookies or pie.
