Dear __________________________,
Welcome to Global Launch at Arizona State University! Since 1974, we have
offered specially designed intensive English as a Second Language instruction.
Throughout the program’s history, it has welcomed students from over 115
countries. Our faculty and staff are now excited to welcome you to the program.
In addition to English language instruction, GL offers unique cultural and linguistic
opportunities that encourage student engagement and learning beyond the
classroom and into the real world. Field trips and a diversity of activities help you
use English and explore American culture in GL’s strategic location. GL is located
in one of the largest metropolitan areas on one of the largest university campuses
in the United States. Arizona State University serves more than 90,000 students in
over 450 undergraduate, masters, and doctoral academic programs and is globally
recognized for its innovation, impact, excellence, and access.
Global Launch has developed a Cultural Immersion Project to help you develop
your English skills and gain the most from your experience in the United States.
The Cultural Immersion Project opens the door for meaningful engagement and
critical reflection on the opportunities you will have at GL to learn, grow, and
discover in your second language and American home.
Global Launch faculty and staff are ready to help you in any way. Please don’t
hesitate to use the many resources available to you. We all wish you much
success in your academic endeavors and hope you enjoy your time at Global
Launch.
Sincerely,
Kae Sawyer
Director of Student Services

Culture Pass or Other Opportunities
ASU allows you to experience culture at little or no cost. One great way to get
free access to some of the most popular destinations is with a Culture Pass (more
details below).
Additionally, you may have the opportunity to attend a sporting event or take a
weekend day trip with your host family or other friends to experience culture
outside of Global Launch’s scheduled activities.
Take advantage of these extra opportunities – they may be some of your most
memorable!
Required Attendance Two Events/Visits
How the Culture Pass works: Culture Passes are available at the ASU library
check-out desk. The passes are checked out like any other material to ASU
students, faculty and staff. Each pass grants admission for two people to the
selected institution. There are a limited number of passes for each organization.
Passes are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and each individual may
only have one pass checked out at a time. Passes cannot be reserved or renewed
and are valid for seven days. Passes do not need to be returned and may only be
used once during the 7-day period.
Culture Passes are valid for admission to the following participating institutions:
Arcosanti-Cordes Junction
Arizona Historical Society Museum at
Papago Park
Arizona Science Center
Cave Creek Museum
Challenger Space Center
Deer Valley Rock Art Center
Desert Botanical Garden
Desert Caballeros Western Museum
Halle-Heart Children's Museum
Heard Museum
Phoenix Art Museum
Pueblo Grande Museum
Rossen House Museum

Dear ____________,
Congratulations! You are nearly done with your Cultural Immersion Project.
In the past several weeks, you have wisely invested your time, energy, creativity and
personal expression in the completion of this project. The Cultural Immersion Project
was designed to help you focus your goals of improving English and experiencing
American culture while in the U.S. We hope you found this to be true. We also hope it
has helped make your time at Global Launch a more meaningful and memorable
experience.
The final pages of your Cultural Immersion Project are dedicated for your personal
reflection and final presentation. Think about aspects of your experience at Global
Launch and in the U.S. that were most meaningful to you. Use this as an opportunity to
reflect on your personal growth as well as your academic growth, and share how you
have grown in your understanding of the English language, American culture and
yourself. We look forward to seeing your Final Reflection and Presentation.
We hope your experience at Global Launch has been educational, fun, and full of great
memories. It has been a pleasure working with you and we wish you the very best in all
of your future academic endeavors and life pursuits. You will do well!
Sincerely,
Megan Belfore
Program Coordinator
