The Statesmen have won 13 consecutive meetings against St. Lawrence to take the lead in the series 39-36-2. The Saints haven’t beaten Hobart since 1991, and haven’t won in Geneva since 1990. SENIOR DAY: Prior to the start of today’s game, Hobart will honor its 11 seniors. Over the past three-plus seasons, they have helped the Statesmen to a 29-8 record, won three consecutive Liberty League titles, made two NCAA Tournament appearances, and won the 2003 ECAC North Atlantic Bowl. ABOUT LAST WEEK: The Statesmen are coming off a 27-9 home win over Kings Point last Saturday. Running back DOUG BLAKOWSKI rushed for 149 yards and three touchdowns, while linebacker JIMMY GRADIS led the defense with 10 tackles. Hobart sacked Kings Points’ quarterbacks six times during the contest with defensive end ZACH YOUNG having a hand in four of them. ABOUT LAST YEAR: It was a slow week for the high-powered Hobart offense in Canton, but the Statesmen still left town with a 21-10 victory. JACK HOLLERAN ’05 rushed for a career-high 169 yards and two TDs to lead the offense. Linebacker NOLAN ROBINSON paced the defense with nine tackles. St. Lawrence jumped out to a 10-0 lead before Hobart finally found the end zone late in the first quarter. Holleran broke off a 54-yard touchdown run midway through the second quarter to give the Statesmen the lead for good. NEGATIVE CAMPAIGN: The Hobart defense kept Kings Point’s ground game in check on Saturday. The Mariners finished the day with minus 10 yards rushing. The Statesmen defense pushed Kings Point backwards or held the Mariners for no gain on nine of their 28 running plays. It’s the first time a Hobart opponent has finished the day with negative rushing yards since Oct. 17, 1998, when the Statesmen stopped Franklin & Marshall for minus 5 yards. UNDER PRESSURE: Thanks to a season-high matching six sacks against Kings Point, Hobart has as many sacks through six games (21) this season as the 2004 Statesmen logged in 11 games. Junior defensive end ANDY PURDIE leads the charge with 4.5 followed by senior defensive end ZACH YOUNG and senior defensive tackle RICK EICHELDINGER with 4.0 each. PERFECT 10: The Statesmen have won 10 in a row at Boswell Field. The last visitor to leave the Boz with a victory was St. John Fisher on Nov. 8, 2003 (20-12). GIVE ME LIBERTY: Hobart is the three-time defending champion of the Liberty League. The Statesmen ran the table last season, winning the circuit with a perfect 7-0 record. Dating back to the 2003 season, Hobart has won 12 in a row against conference opponents. The Statesmen have captured the conference crown five times since 1998.
