Goggles MATERIALS • Goggles and fascinator pattern – See page 3 for pattern in pdf format, which will print on one sheet of 8 1/2" x 11" sheet of paper. • 2 - 6" x 3" pieces of synthetic leather, each in two colors – we used Dark Brown and Tan • 1 – 5" x 2" piece of lightweight plastic • 1/2 yard of 1/2" wide elastic • 1 – 1/2" slide buckle • Scissors • Hand sewing needle • Matching thread • Fabric glue • Assorted gear charms DIRECTIONS 1. Using the enclosed pattern, cut out the goggles components as follows: • Cut outer goggles from dark brown synthetic leather; cut out eye holes • Cut inner goggles from tan leather – cut out eye holes • Cut goggle lenses from lightweight plastic 2. With the RIGHT side of the outer goggles facing up, place a thin line of glue around the cut edge of the eye holes. Place the lenses on top of the glue, centering each lens over its respective eye hole. Press down to set and allow to dry. 3. Place a thin layer of glue on the WRONG side of the inner goggles. Place the inner goggles with glue side DOWN on top of the outer goggles with lenses, lining up the eye holes. The lenses should be sandwiched in between the inner and outer goggles. Press down to set and allow to dry completely. 4. Cut two lengths of elastic, each measuring 8" long. On the WRONG side of the goggles, place one end of one length of elastic at the side, overlapping approximately 5/8". Glue in place to secure. For extra strength, add a few hand stitches, stitching through all layers. Stitching will show on the right side of the goggles, but this will be covered with gear charms later. Repeat with other length of elastic on opposite end of goggles. 5. Slide the center bar of the buckle over free end of one length of elastic. Turn end back approximately 1/2" and hand-stitch in place to secure. 6. On RIGHT side of goggles, glue gear charms as desired, using the photo as a guide. Be sure to cover any stitching.
