| 1 Wayne Stender Journalism is more than simply writing sto- ries. Journalism has the power to document God’s world, communicating simple facts to show a larger story. Hillcrest’s journalism class is learning that they document happenings in their life on a daily basis. Social networks like Twitter and Instagram can be channels to show God’s larger story, if we allow them. To practice using these journalistic mediums to commu- nicate redemption, students report the hap- penings at Hillcrest using social media tools. In their media saturated world, students need to learn to write shorter, providing meaningful content with clarity and brevity. This edition of the HLA Today focuses on re- porting using captivating images. You’ll see short captions that drive attention to deeper meaning in the picture. Throughout the year students will move to reporting using writ- ten, spoken, and video mediums, crafting larger written pieces with precision focus. The skills necessary to write short will en- able students to better communicate God’s involvement in the world to readers living in a fast paced digitally distracting culture.
