ensure that the new system is fair for everyone. A

Year 6 School Journey
Our Year 6 children are returning from a
wonderful week in Dorset this evening. They have
thoroughly enjoyed a huge range of fun and
challenging activities including: raft building, zip
wire, giant swing, fencing and archery. Our Twitter
feed @hitherfield15 has a large number of photos
and videos from their week. Perhaps our year 5
pupils would like to take a look?
PLEASE GIVE IF YOU CAN!
On the 10th of October, Jacinta and Katy will be
travelling to work with our partner school,
Dodoma Mlimani, in Tanzania.
We would love to take them range of educational
gifts from our school community. To fund this, we
will be holding a collection at the beginning and
end of the school day next week. Please make a
contribution if you are able to. You can also leave
a contribution at the school office if you take your
children to Breakfast or After School Club. Thank
you!
Is your child due to start
secondary school in Sept
2020? Apply now as the
deadline for applications is
31st October 2019. Applying
later can reduce your child’s
chances of getting into the
school of their choice.
Reminder.
On the 7th of October we are running some workshops for Year 5 children with the organisation Growing Against Violence. As part of this, we are also offering an informative parent session. This will take place in the school (location to be confirmed - depending on numbers) after drop off at 9am. The session is 90 minutes long. Due to the content and topics covered, it is not appropriate for children, so we are offering a creche service, which will be held in the children's centre creche room. A sign up sheet will be in main school office, so please register your space with one of the office staff. This is open to ALL parents. Sessions will also be run in January with the Year 6 pupils Please see the attached flyer further down the Herald for information about these sessions.
Breakfast and Afterschool Club Emergency Places: Our priority is to ensure that the children attending the clubs are safe, well supervised and have a range of engaging fun and learning activities. It is essential that we know the number of children expected to attend every session. We understand that on occasion families have emergency situations and we aim to support real emergencies by offering ‘Emergency Places’ at the clubs. If there is a family emergency it is essential that the parent contacts the main school office as soon as possible, as we will need to update registers, check staffing levels and ensure a meal can be provided for the child before we can agree to the emergency place. Please do not request emergency places from anyone else, eg the managers or club staff, as the decision to offer a place is made by Senior Staff only. A real emergency is a very rare occurrence and is not to be used for ad hoc attendance at the clubs. We do not offer ad hoc places in our Breakfast and After School Clubs.
Football Coaching
I am now taking registration for our Thursday weekly football sessions at The Elmgreen School. Our fun and exciting weekly programme is for both boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 14 years olds where your children can win trophies whilst staying healthy, meeting new friends and developing personal and social skills!. Interested? Contact Lionel Best on 07908 950 630
Make sure your child understands that people may hide behind fake profiles for dishonest reasons and the
person they've been chatting to could easily be someone with bad intentions. For younger children watch
‘CEOP KS1 Film : 'Lee & Kim' Cartoon Suitable 5 yrs - 7 yrs’ on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-

Remind your child that they should never give out personal information to someone they don’t know online.
Make sure they understand what personal information is. According to research on average 6 out 10 of
children's online friends are not 'real' friends offline.
Be clear with your child that they should never meet someone face to face without your consent. Show them
how to block and report anything offensive.
Your child should know they can come and talk to you if someone or something is making them feel
uncomfortable online.
ALSO please remember to email us at [email protected] if you have a particular element of keeping your
children safe online you want help with. Children can also put any worries they have in the ‘Online safety worry box’ in
the corridor near Year 2.
Dust off your bikes! Let’s ride to school next week!
Parents and carers, send in pictures of everybody in your family cycling or getting ready to cycle to school
all next week. Send one picture per family or child to [email protected]
Our Eco Ambassadors will be handing out badges to cyclists at the main gates on Tuesday only.
