PhD in History, Philosophy and Heritage of Science and Technology The PhD Course in History, Philosophy and Heritage of Science and Technology started in 2008 at the Department of Applied Social Sciences. It intends to offer doctoral students a set of skills and competences which will allow them: 1. To foster a culture of science and technology that aims to understand the historical importance and influence of science and technology in European society; 2. To understand and contextualize the development of technological innovation in Portuguese society; 3. To identify and contextualize the history of scientific and technological Portuguese heritage; 4. To evaluate and disseminate knowledge that will ensure the conservation of the scientific and technological heritage. Students will join the Interuniversitary Centre for History and Philosophy of Science and Technology (CIUHCT), a recognized research unit at the national and international levels. PhD in History, Philosophy and Heritage of Science and Technology

The PhD Course in History, Philosophy and Heritage of Science and Technology started in 2008 at the Department of Applied Social Sciences. It intends to offer doctoral students a set of skills and competences which will allow them:

Admissions requirements

To join the program, the applicant must satisfy the

conditions laid down by national law, in specific

applicable norms and, in particular, satisfy the

alternatives expressed in the following paragraphs:

• Holders of a 2nd cycle master’s degree or

equivalent, concluded in a legally recognized

Portuguese or foreign high education institution.

• Bachelor’s degree holders and holders of a

particularly relevant academic or scientific

curriculum recognized as attesting the capacity

to carry out this cycle of studies by the Scientific

Committee;

• Holders of an academic, scientific or professional

curriculum recognized as attesting the capacity

• Research• Qualification of primary and secondary teachers• Qualification of top-level executives of local authorities, through the development of skills for the measurement of scientific technological and industrial heritage sites and their conservation possibilities.

to accomplish this cycle of studies by the

Scientific Committee of the Faculty of Science and

Technology, NOVA University of Lisbon.

Candidates must submit a letter of motivation

and two recommendation letters. Performance

and motivation of the candidates is additionally

assessed in an interview with the Scientific

Committee.

Applicants must also submit a text with a maximum

of 5 pages, indicating the subject of research that

they are interested in developing.

Candidates from any nationality may apply;

the program is committed to follow an equal

opportunities policy. Applications are submitted

electronically through FCT-UNL online system.

This course could be taught on a e-learning platform,

in order to welcome foreign candidates, who have

difficulty in attending all the classes.
