This is our SIXTH edition of the PLAAY Gamer Open. W
e originated it (under a slightly different format) to celebrate the gam
e’s launch at a live event in Atlanta, March 2017. Randy Alton and Brien
Aronov were co-winners that day. We held two events in 2018, one in Charlotte in M
arch (won by John Weber) and a second one at the very first PLAAY-Dot-CON in Denver in July (won by M
ark Rus-sell). The 2019 event, also a convention event, was expanded to two rounds and won by Silas W
illiams. Last year’s Open was played entirely on-line as part of our “viirtual” convention, PLAAY-NOT-
Con 2020. This year, we have both online and in-person components to the tournam
ent.
This year’s event will be two rounds on the fabulous Seven Wonders Golf Tour. Virtual convention-goers will play the course solo, on your own tabletop. (Of course, if you’re able to gather with another
gamer in-person, feel free to play the rounds together!) You’ll then report your results on the “pinned” leaderboard thread at the top of the PLAAY-Dot-CON Facebook Group page. The top four golfers
will qualify for a final championship round, stream
ed live on the PLAAY Games YouTube Channel on M
onday, August 9th.
We’ve created six different “Seven W
onders of the World”-them
ed golfer cards, representing varied but equal levels of pro play: Seasoned Pro, All-Around Solid, Hazards Pharaoah, Star of the Green, Big Hitter, Iron Sharpshooter. You’ll choose the card you want to use; once you tee off, you won’t be allowed to change cards—
so choose wisely!
Standard game rules will apply, including chip usage and “playing safe” or “going for it” on white die “6” results. Strategy card usage won’t be allowed for this event. W
