Tips for Success from the Counseling Department
l Registering for the appropriate high school courses can effect graduation requirements, admission to colleges, NCAA eligibility, and preparing for a career
l Your high school grade point average (GPA) can affect eligibility to participate in high school co-curricular activities, awards such as the Honor Roll and Principal’s list, as well as effect admission to colleges, eligibility for scholarships and eligibility to participate in college athletics
Tips for Success from the Counseling Department
Things you can do NOW to prepare for life after high school: 1. PCHS daily bulletin (also available on our school website:
www.pchs.k12.hi.us) 2. Earn above average grades (e.g., UH Manoa requires a 2.8 G PA) 3. Participate in school and/or community activities -- start a resume/
personal data sheet 4. Research college admission requirements and education/work skills
needed for different careers—it’s never too early! 5. Speak to a counselor to help with your planning 6. Attend activities like college and career fieldtrips, guest speakers,
workshops, etc. 7. Keep a portfolio of your honors, awards, certificates, medals, projects,
test scores, etc. so that you have a record for your resume (update annually)
