• PATRIOTISM - The stranger said that patriotism was the greatest curse on Earth.

• DEMOCRACY- The Australians did not have their right in their own country.

SYNOPSIS

This story is about two men(stranger and stout man)

that compared their country with the other countries. The stranger is an ex-Australian. He claimed that his country is the worth country. He lived there for 35 years and finally he left. He swear that he will never go back to Australia. He said that he got nothing to thank Australia except getting out of it. This is because he was starve at his own dear native land. He worked hard there but getting less paid compared to when he work at New Zealand.

PLOT

INTRODUCTION- A stout man ride a coach as he arrived at New Zealand. He said that New Zealand is a grand country.

RISING ACTION- The stout man told the driver that Australia is worth than New Zealand. The Bagman did not believe it since he has never been to Australia.

CLIMAX- The stranger interrupted the conversation between stout man, Bagman and the coach driver. He strengthen the stout man’s statement about Australia.

• FALLING ACTION - The stranger insisted that New Zealand is better because New Zealand’s government still take care about minor thing.

For example : The trees along the road.• RESOLUTION

- The coach driver and the Bagman believed in what the stranger and the stout man talk about Australia.

CHARACTERS

• The stranger- He is an ex- Australian- He is not patriotism

• Stout man - He is an Australian- Brown- faced, grey beard and grey eyes- He is not patriotism

• Bagman- He is a native of New Zealand- He is curious about Australia- He respect his own country and others

• Coach Driver- He is a native of New Zealand- He has never been to Australia- He think that Australia is better than New Zealand

LITERARY DEVICES

PERSONAFICATION- The coach had climbed the terraces on the south side of the river ….. ( pg 3 line 8 )

HYPERBOLE- The man whose soul was dead cleared his throat for action ……. ( pg 2 line 33 )

SIMILE- also for the convenience of foreign speculators, and populated mostly by mongrel sheep…………… and like dingoes in the bush ( pg 2 line 22 )
