Hip-Hop isn’t a kind of music or dance, but it is a culture which include 4 elements:

• Rap (the lyrics)• Break dance (the dance)• Djing (the music)• Graffiti (the image)

History of HIP-HOP

• The Hip hop was developed in deprived areas of the U.S.A. , such as the Bronx in New York and other large cities where was high unemployment and poverty. The 4 elements weren’t developed at the same time but at different times. Its roots date back to the '70s, when they started the first steps.

• The first time that the meaning was written was at the newspaper “The Village Voice” by Steven Hager

Break Dance• Break dance is a kind of dance .The first

breakdancers, were appeared in 1973 and came magically to solve disputes and arguments between gangs. Thus , in these streets of South Bronx , started break dance really. The first battles even became in grass . In this way, the battle could prove the best gang and sometimes the loser agree that he will not pass from the neighborhood of the winner again. Unfortunately , these battles do not always stop the warfare between gangs and often cause real " battles “.

• The term breakdance later attributed by the media .

• Graffiti incorporated in hip-hop as one of its elements in the end of ’60s. Since then was poured around the globe , from Brazil to Iran, and became a way of expressing of the artist for various other purposes . Graffiti fills the gray color that exist in the city with a colour of his soul that is born at that moment in the artist's mind and transferred from the heart to the hand of the artist who is holding the spray . The graffiti makes you feel more liberated and being expressed through these creations . The graffiti is a great experience despite of that the majority of old people face it like vandalism , beautifies the walls and gives them a new vitality . Generally graffiti expresses most of the teens nowadays .

RAP• It’s about a kind that emphasizes in words and

not to much in the music. Lyrics are not being sung ,but are being told in a specific ,rhythmic way! The music have some of soul and jazz music elements, but also from many others kinds of music. Lyrics are based on experiences of the artists and some of them are based on the marginalized black tribe who lived in U.S.A.

DJing

• DJing was created in 1975-1978 and firstly was used for having rhythm the break

dancers and after for rappers. The 1st DJ ,who became very famous, was Kool

Herc. Then, the next generations of Hip-Hop DJs with many innovations such as scratch,

beat juggling etc. reach DJs at the current level. The first years, DJs were stars of Hip –

Hop groups ,but in 1978 MCs turn the audience down and DJs keep on at the art

of terntablism
