Hinsdale Center for the Arts is a not-for-profit 501 (c) (3), Regional Arts Center serving the western suburbs of Chicago with a wide range of professional quality visual, literary and performing arts programs including exhibitions, classes, workshops, festivals, outreach programs, technical assistance to arts organizations and artists and regranting programs. In 1996, Hinsdale Center for the Arts was designated by the Illinois Arts Council as an Established Regional Arts Institution. In 1999, HCA was awarded the prestigious Governor’s Award for the Arts. Revenues from operations and fund raising events, grants from corporations, foundations, and government agencies like the Illinois Arts Council and contributions from individuals support Hinsdale Center for the Arts.

Multi-Arts Camp 2011Hinsdale Center for the Arts’ signature program, Multi-Arts Camp (MAC) has provided a glimpse into the cultural life of far away lands to children for more than 20 years. During this two-week arts immersion camp children work together with HCA’s exemplary music, theater, dance and art faculty. Each session culminates with a special performance and art exhibition for family and friends. This year we are offering three exciting camp themes! All supplies are included. Tuition per session: $250 members/$300 non-members

MAC 1: Travel East to India Ages 6 - 12 June 13 - June 24, 1:00 - 4:15 p.m.India’s diverse land has beautiful monuments from the Taj Mahal to exquisite palaces. Children will learn about different styles of music, theater, folk and classical pieces. Sculpture, folk and contemporary art forms will be explored.Tuition per session: $250 members/$300 non-members

MAC 2: Destination Spain!Ages 6 - 12 July 11 - July 22, 1:00 - 4:15 p.m.Imagine climbing the spires of an impressive cathedral, looking down upon the port from where Christopher Columbus began his journey, to the “West Indies”. The history of Spain comes to life through stories of great explorers like Ponce de Leon & Coronado, flamenco music and dance, cultural treasures of Madrid, Granada and Seville!Tuition per session: $250 members/$300 non-members

MAC 3: Native Americans of the Pacific Coast Ages 6 - 12 August 1 - 12, 1:00 - 4:15 p.m.Students will learn about the culture and history of the Pacific Northwest People who live along 2,000 miles of coastline from southern Alaska to Northern California. Students will learn about spoken traditions, carved masks, totem poles and more!Tuition per session: $250 members/$300 non-members

The Singing-Actor CampAges: 11-14June 20 - 24, 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.Teaching Artist: Tracey Ford Location: The Community House, HinsdaleDuring this multi-day workshop, participants will explore singing and acting with a focus on improving audition skills for musical theatre. Students will have the opportunity to learn two 16-bar excerpts that they can use for musical theatre auditions as well as working on and preparing a monologue. Students will be exposed to vocal warm-ups, proper body movement, character development, improv exercises and cold-readings of scripts.$140 HCA members/$190 non-members

Photography IntensiveAges 11 - 14July 11 - July 22, 10:00 am - NoonTeaching Artist: Jeni LodolceLocation: The Community House, HinsdaleOver this two week intensive, students will learn about composition, lighting, and sequencing for digital street photography. Students will document their lives and surroundings through photography assignments, just like the professionals. During this camp students will look at the works of professional photographers such as Cartier-Bresson and Garry Winogrand as well as critique their own work. Camp will culminate in a final project or exhibition. Students must bring a digital camera to class. $160 HCA members/non-members $210

Art-rageous Sports Camp Ages 7 - 11 Session 1: June 20 - June 24, 9:00 am - 12:00 p.m. Session 2: August 1 - August 5, 9:00 am - 12:00 p.m.Teaching Artist: Suzanne PennExpand your skills on the field, while developing your artistic talents in this all-in-one camp. Campers will spend half the morning playing a variety of sports and games while learning the importance of sportsmanship with the sports staff. Then, campers will work with HCA’s art faculty to create cool sport-related art projects. At the end of camp, each camper will see themselves as a “champion”! All art supplies are included. This class meets at The Community House.$160 HCA members/$210 non-members

Si, parlo l’italiano Italian Language Camp Ages 6 - 12 June 13 - June 17, 9:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.This week long camp will introduce young aspiring musicians and artists to the basics of Italian language through songs, listening and language activities. The instructor will conduct class in English and Italian and expose students to basic conversation skills, the Italian alphabet through song, counting, and colors. Students will have fun practicing their Italian through singing, listening and dancing to some famous Italian musical works. Art activities will reinforce the learning of Italian and deepen their understanding of Italy’s rich cultural history.$125 HCA members/$175 non-members

Immerse your child in French Impressionism! Ages 6 - 12 July 11 - July 15, 9:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.Introduce your child to another language through hands-on art making, singing, and games. Art goes to a whole new level when culture comes to life and is presented in its’ original language. Your child will join a whole new world of adventure in French while learning about the French Impressionists’ style and techniques. You might paint, do a collage, or create a mural inspired by Monet, Seurat or Matisse while singing. $125 HCA members/$175 non-members

Speak ART! Art is an international language and connects us globally. It’s only natural that learning different languages goes hand-in-hand with learning about the arts and culture of other countries. With this in mind HCA is offering mini-immersion camps that will allow your child to develop enthusiasm and a beginning level of understanding by exposing children to basic salutations, art vocabulary, songs and stories of a world language while creating art that is representative of another culture. This theme-based introduction is facilitated by two instructors who will create a fast-moving, activity-filled atmosphere that immerses students in another culture and another language for the duration of the program.

Paris Je t’aime! French Language Ages 6 - 12 July 18 - July 22, 9:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.Students will be exposed to French language and culture through music, games and art activities. Learn about French history and historic monuments like the Eiffel Tower, The Arc de Triomphe, Versailles, the Louvre and more. What we learn will be incorporated into art projects. Students will engage in singing French songs and playing games in French. Your child will experience traveling through a lively classroom with French used in conversation and art making.$125 HCA members/$175 non-members

Volkswagen? Nein. Volkstanz und singen? Ja! German Language Camp Ages 6 - 12 August 8 - 12, 9:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.The German Brothers Grimm named Rapunzel after which vegetable? From fairy tales to abstract expressionism, to the Bauhas’ Mies van der Rohe who immigrated to Chicago, there is a lot of German culture to be discovered through the language, music, dance and art of Deutschland. As they say, “Deutschland uber alles!”$125 HCA members/$175 non-members

New! Storytelling for GuysGrades 6 - 9June 20 - June 24, 2011Afternoon: 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.Teaching Artist: J. Drew ScottLocation: Mayslake Peabody Estate, Oak BrookWriting isn’t just a school exercise, it’s an essential creative art where anything and everything is under your control alone. Where else can you turn day into night, call down the lightning, slay the dragon, reshape the moon or level mountains with just a pen stroke? This advanced version of “Writing for Guys” focuses on long-form storytelling, character development and the classic “Hero’s Journey.” Through a week of writing exercises, word games, group discussion and self editing, we’ll spark a lifelong love of words that will change the way you think of writing.$150 HCA members/$200 non-members

Writing for GuysGrades 3 - 5June 20 - June 24, 2011Morning: 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.Teaching Artist: J. Drew ScottLocation: Mayslake Peabody Estate, Oak BrookThe tip of your pencil is a teleportation device: Just press it to a piece of paper and you’ll discover worlds of danger, excitement, mystery and quite possibly flying zombie dinosaurs. This class will teach you how to use this wondrous pencil-teleporter to encounter the characters, stories and faraway lands hiding just a sentence or two away. During our week of creativity, we’ll play word games, trade good ideas, laugh a bunch and write, whatever we want. $120 HCA members/$170 non-members

Mask Making CampAges 8 - 14 July 25 – 29, 12:00 – 3:00 p.m.At Mayslake Peabody EstateThe Mayslake Peabody Estate is the perfect theatrical and artistic setting for this unique class. Mask acting is very physical, inexplicably magical and a thrilling way to bring characters to life! In this fun five day camp, young artists and actors will make their own masks and then learn to perform in them during games and scenes. This class will meet at Mayslake Hall on the grounds of Mayslake Peabody Estate in Oak Brook. $160 HCA members/$210 non-members

Girls WriteFor girls entering grades 4 - 5 Teaching Artist: Carmela MartinoJuly 18 - 22, 2011 Morning Session: 9:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.Come join us for friendship and fun! This camp is designed specifically to empower and affirm budding girl authors. Activities include playing writing-related games, listening to literature by women authors, experimenting with different writing techniques, and providing feedback to each other. Girls will write in a variety of forms, including poetry, memoir, and fiction. They will also receive help revising their work. By the end of camp, students will have created an anthology of their work, and make some new friends!$135 HCA members/$185 non-members

Girls Write ON!For girls entering grades 6 - 8 Teaching Artist: Carmela MartinoJuly 25 - July 29 Morning: 9:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.This class is a sequel to Girls Write, and combines the techniques from the earlier class with new materials, authors, and writing forms. Girls need not have attended Girls Write to register for this course. Students will have the opportunity to write about what it means to be a girl and to have friendships with other girls. Students enjoy the same supportive environment as in Girls Write while delving into the art form of literature. $135 HCA members/$185 non-members

New! Poems, Stories, and Plays, Oh, My! Grades K- 3Summer: June 13 - June 24 Morning: 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Teaching Artist: Donna LathamHey budding authors, get your imagination on! During this week long creative writing camp, children dive into the literary art forms of poetry, fiction, and drama. Personal expression and creativity are encouraged in a supportive environment. Children listen and respond to each genre and experiment with brainstorming and creative writing techniques. Budding authors buddy up to share writing and exchange feedback. Each student will receive help editing, revising and polishing his or her work. At the final class, authors leap from the page to stage! Campers will rehearse and perform readings of their new creations for family and friends. Please bring a pencil, folder and notebook to class.$140 HCA members/$190 non-members

New! Once Upon a Time… Creative DramaticsFor Children Ages 3 and 4June 13—June 24Mornings: 9:00 a.m. - 9:45 a.m. Teaching Artist: Donna LathamReady to pretend, play, and perform? This class combines story time and creative dramatics to let imaginations soar. Children listen to stories and creatively respond through games, improvisation, movement, and drama. As budding performers act out stories, they’ll use their voices, facial expressions, and bodies to create characters. Children will explore self-expression, build confidence, and develop basic social skills. Join the fun in a nurturing environment! Students must be out of diapers.$100 HCA members/$150 non-members

Meet Donna Latham Playwright and author Donna Latham’s been making up stuff, acting it out, and writing it down forever. Her plays have been produced coast to coast. Her new kids’ show, Three by the Sea, world-premieres at the Looking Glass Theatre in New York and runs there for six weeks in March and April, 2011. Donna received the ASPCA Henry Bergh Children’s Book Award for Fire Dogs and an Honorable

Mention Award from the Beverly Hills Theatre Guild for the play Paddy and the Mermaid. Schools around the US have staged her series Grappling With Grammar.

The Geometry of Nature and Art Ages 12 - 16 August 8 - August 12, 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.Teaching Artist: Ed Newmann This camp is a fun and fascinating class in which young people explore, through drawing and sculpture, the astonishing designs of natural forms, and the simple yet beautiful mathematics that make them possible.By creating and sculpting their own flowers, beehives, seashells and spiderwebs-- as well as imaginary plants and creatures based on original designs (made from a variety of safe and easy-to-use materials), students will learn about such things as THE GOLDEN RATIO, DIVINE PROPORTION, and the FIBONACCI SPIRAL, and a number of other easy-to-understand geometric principles. $160 HCA members/$210 Non-Members

Animation CampAges 9 - 14 August 1 - August 5, 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.Teaching Artist: Ed NewmannIn this camp, students will learn basic pencil-and-paper animation techniques, as well as character design, story-boarding and acting for animation. Each student will create his or her own short animated movie (with sound track), and take home a DVD copy of the finished production. Mr. Newmann has over 35 years experience as a professional animator and animation director on feature films, TV shows and television commercials. Supplies are included in tuition.$160 HCA members/$210 Non-Members

Open Studio Summer ClassGrades 9 - 12Mondays, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. June 20 - August 1 (6 weeks)Teaching Artist: Rebecca Banasiak We are taking Open Studio to new spaces! Each class will focus on creating artwork to enhance your portfolio, drawing and painting skills. Students will work in a variety of settings, both indoors and outdoors focusing on landscape, botanical and architecture. Katherine Legge Memorial Park is plentiful with inspiration, and a variety of natural settings. A $20 supply fee is payable to the instructor on the first day of class.$150 HCA members/$200 non-members

New! A Surreal World Art CampAges 6 - 12August 1 - 5, 10 a.m. - noon Teaching Artist: Jeni Lodolce If you could create a new version of the world, what would that world look like? Inspired by the art of surrealists Salvador Dali, Max Ernst, and Rene Magritte, students will use imagination and creativity to make maps, animals, and new inventions for an altered version of the world. Inspiration and examples include the world of Harry Potter, Star Trek, and Sponge Bob. Campers will explore a variety of art making including drawing, painting, sculpture and mixed media.$125 HCA members/$175 non-members

Pop Art PrintmakingAges 6 - 12June 27 - June 30, 10:00 a.m. - NoonTeaching Artist: Jeni Lodolce Students will explore a variety of methods of print making, and create their own works of art using these methods. Campers will learn about how artists such as Andy Warhol used pop art to create visually pleasing designs!$100 HCA members/$150 non-members

Theater and Improv CampAges 11 and upSession 1: June 27 - June 30 from 2:45 - 4:45 p.m. Session 2: July 25 - July 28 from 2:45 - 4:45 p.m.Teaching Artist: Karen BurrisThis is a class for anyone who wants to be on stage when the curtain rises. Improvisation, theater games, scene study and more promote self-confidence and prepare students to audition for plays and musicals. New! Individualism: Exploring Cultural IdentityAges 6 - 12July 25 - 29, 9:30 - 11:30 a.m.Teaching Artist: Jeni LodolceEveryone is unique and different! Through this class, students will choose a theme based on their own identity or interests, and explore this theme through photography. Students will also construct a handmade book, using traditional bookmaking techniques such as fold, pamphlet, and binding. At the end of the class students will have a mixed media book that represents their own individuality. Students must bring a digital camera to class.$125 HCA members/$175 non-members

New! Documentary PhotographyAges 14 and upJune 27 - June 30, 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.Teaching Artist: Jeni LodolceThis class is for students with previous experience in photography. Students will explore documentary and news photography through photographing their own lives. Students will examine a specific issue or theme to photograph as a body of work. Students will learn how to compose a photograph and how to capture “the decisive moment” as introduced by photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson. Critiques will lead students to a final group of photographs. $100 HCA members/$150 non-members

Required Attire for Ballet:Students enrolled in Pre-Ballet I, II, III and IV, Ballet A and Ballet B are required to wear pink short sleeve leotards, pink tights and pink ballet shoes. Please, no skirts or tutus to be worn in class. Label all shoes, tights and leotards with child’s name.

Ballet C students are required to wear Motionwear 2100 tank (light blue) child sizes XSC-Plus or adult sizes and Motionwear 2104 short sleeve (light blue) child sizes XSC-Plus or adult sizes.

Required Attire for Tap:Students should wear pink or black short sleeve leotards, pink or black tights, and black tap shoes.

The HCA/Salt Creek Ballet Program features a developmentally appropriate environment in which younger children explore the essentials of movement and dance. Technique classes are offered at all levels from pre-ballet to advanced. The ballet-based program is under the direction of Salt Creek Ballet Artistic Directors, Sergey Kozadayev and Zhanna Dubrovskaya. Natives of St. Petersburg, Russia, they trained at the famous Vaganova Academy of the Kirov Ballet and have performed worldwide as soloists with the Maly Theater of St. Petersburg. For seven years, the Kozadayevs were with the Colorado Ballet Academy, he as a Ballet Master and she as a Principal Teacher.

Hinsdale Center for the Arts has been providing quality musical education in the region for over 29 years. HCA has been designated by the Illinois Arts Council as the Established Regional Arts Institution serving DuPage and western Cook counties. Our music faculty is comprised of highly trained, experienced professional musicians, knowledgeable in pedagogy and performance.

HCA’s Music Program includes individual instruction for adults and children, ages 4 and up. The program includes one 30-minute private lesson per week. Forty-five minute and one-hour lessons may be arranged at the discretion of the instructor.

New! Hinsdale Rock SchoolGrades 9 - 12 July 11 - July 14 and July 18The Hinsdale Rock School teaches young students how to play and perform Rock Music. The summer camp consists of a 40 minute private lesson in the morning and a one and a half hour group rock session in the afternoon. Students will be taught by young professional musicians on the following instruments: guitar, bass, drums, keys and vocals. Previous experience is required. During the camp students will learn about the history of rock music, genres, and styles of music. A performance for family and friends will culminate this camp on Monday, July 18th. Shibori: Dying Texture into FabricJune 14, 21 and 28, 6:00 - 8:30 p.m.Ages: 15 and up Teaching Artist: Darcy Berg Shibori is a Japanese method for resist-dying fabric or very sophisticated tie-dye. In this four week class we will learn to create texture in fabric by wrapping it onto PVC poles, using thread to stitch it, rubber bands to bind it, clamping it with wood pieces and then, finally, dying it. You will be amazed how easy it is to create your own original beautiful fabric to use for wearable art, home-dec projects, and art quilts. Photography Meets Art QuiltTuesdays 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. August 2 - 23, 2011Ages 15 and up! Teaching Artist: Darcy BergNo sewing required! We will start this four week class by taking a nature photograph with your camera. We will load it onto your laptop computer and learn to manipulate the photograph to produce a work of art in itself. After we print the photograph onto fabric (yes, fabric), we will use textile paints to highlight the image. Then we will fuse the image to quilt batting and bind it with hand-dyed, hand painted, or batik fabric to produce a fantastic piece of art. Hinsdale’s Independence Day Celebration – America’s BirthdayMonday, July 4 The Hinsdale Independence Parade is scheduled to step off at 10:00 am on Monday, July 4th. The parade will step off from Sixth St and Garfield headed north to First St. Continue West to Grant St, head south on Grant & end at Sixth and Grant St.

The Annual Independence Day Celebration will be held on the grounds of Burlington Park from 11:00 A.M. until 4:00 pm on Monday, July 4th. This event features an outstanding collection of handmade arts and crafts and family activities. Refreshments will be available for purchase and admission is free! Ed worked as a full-fledged animator at Ralph Bakshi Studios on the feature film THE LORD OF THE RINGS and at Bill Melendez Studios creating several Charlie Brown TV specials and the feature film BON VOYAGE, CHARLIE BROWN. Ed and his wife, Monica, incorporated Calabash Animation in 1985. Teaching experience includes Columbia College in Chicago and has been teaching animation classes at HCA since 2009.

Phyllis Kozlowski - WatercolorPh.D. Art education, Ohio State University. Former Chairperson of Arts and Humanities Department at Moraine Valley Community College, also served as Vice-President of National Art Education Association.

Carmela Martino - Writing MFA in Writing from Vermont College. Experience as a freelance journalist include written articles and essays for adults that have been published in books, newspapers, and magazines. Carmela’s first children’s novel, Rosa, Sola, was published by Candlewick Press. Teaching experience includes writing classes for adults at the College of DuPage, Mayslake Peabody Estate and children’s writing classes at Hinsdale Center for the Arts.

Direct art programs for adults and children of all ages in regional schools and art centers. Exhibits throughout the metropolitan area and works as both a freelance painter, teacher and commissioned portrait artist.

Mary Strasevicius - Visual ArtMFA Southern Illinois University. She has exhibited her work in solo and group shows throughout North America and in Europe. Mary has been a teacher and member of HCA’s Exhibition Committee since 2002. Her work as an artist is inspired by experience and in strongly influenced by avant-garde jazz.

Music FacultyJason Deroche - GuitarJason resides in the western suburbs of Chicago, performs as a soloist as well as part of the duet “ten strings”. Jason is also certified as a suzuki instructor and is an educator and performer.

Mark Djordjevic - Viola and ViolinMA, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, studied with Sherban Lupu, Emmanuel Vardi and Peter Schaffer. Performed with many orchestras and has a broad range of teaching experiences. Currently, Mark is teaching at Benedictine University and HCA.

Dennis Dorris - PianoMA, Piano Performance, American Conservatory of Music in Chicago as well as studied and performed at Salzburg College. Teaching experience includes: the Fine Arts Academy and the IVS School of Music and HCA, over 20 years of teaching piano and chamber music. Dennis performs extensively throughout the Midwest, Italy, Austria, and Switzerland. Currently teaches at Morraine Valley Community College in addition to his classes at HCA.

Carolina Gomez - CelloMA Cello Performance from DePaul University, BA Cello Performance Roosevelt University. As a member of the Chicago Civic Orchestra, she was awarded a fellowship for the 2000-02 seasons. Through the Civic Orchestra, she played under the batons of Christoph Eschenbach, William Eddins, Pierre Boulez, Charles Dutoit, Neeme Jaarvi, and Daniel Baremboim, among others. Performance experience includes: Festival Orchestra of the Europaisches Musikfest Stuttgart, 2002-2003 seasons, the Colorado College and Manchester Chamber Music Festivals, as well as collaborated with artists such as Eteri Andjaparidze, Stephan Hersh and Ilya Kaler. She is currently a member of the International Chamber Artists. Carolina has more than 7 years of teaching experience.

Performance experience includes: the role of Carlotta, national tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera, European debut at the 1989 Aldebrug Festival as Donna Anna in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Konstanze in the Abduction from the Seraglio, Marguerite in Faust , Fiordiligi in Casi Fan Tutte, and The Countess in The Marriage of Figaro. In addition to teaching at HCA, Patricia is the principal private instructor at Hinsdale Central High School.

Tracey Elaine Ford - VoiceTracey is an active teacher and performer throughout metropolitan Chicago. In 2008, she received her D.M.A. in Vocal Performance and Literature from the University of Illinois where she was a recipient of a Graduate Fellowship in Music. Tracey has performed in recital, oratorio and opera. Currently, Tracey teaches private lessons at Hinsdale Center for the Arts, Maine West High School and Elk Grove Village High School. Since 2009, she has been an adjunct instructor at Joliet Junior College where she teaches Music Appreciation and private lessons. Tracey also serves on the board of Chicago NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing).

Leah Myszkowski - VoiceLeah has a dual masters from the School of Music at the University of Illinois in both Vocal Performance and Music Education. She has studied under Professor Cynthia Haymon-Coleman and Professor Paul Grizzell. Performance experience includes: Donna Elvira in the Illinois Opera Theater’s production of Don Giovanni, supporting roles in Illinois Opera Theater productions of Gianni Schicchi, Six Characters in Search of an Author, The Tales of Hoffman, and Street Scene. Leah has

also performed for DuPage Opera Theater, Teatro Ariberto in Milan, Italy, the Baroque Artists of Champaign and New Classic Singers. Currently Leah sings professionally as a cantor and member of the Cantorem Cathedralis at Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago.

Mike Plantan - GuitarMichael Plantan is a graduate of the American Conservatory of Music. Michael has been teaching at HCA for over 20 years. Michael has performed as a soloist and a member of many ensembles throughout the Chicago area for over 20 years. His solo performances include: local concerts, festivals, corporate events, private parties and he has been a featured soloist with various symphonies. When not playing music, Michael helps with his family’s custom frame shop business and enjoys his time with his wife and two children, hiking, fishing, and anything else outdoors.

Ed Rusk - Saxophone and PianoBA, Music in Applied Saxophone and Piano, Northwestern University; additional studies at Eastman School of Music in Rochester New York. He has more than 20 years of performing experience with dance bands, big bands and studio music and has taught saxophone, clarinet and piano privately for more than 25 years.

Adam Roth - GuitarMaster of Music degree from Northern Illinois University, where he studied with Fareed Haque. The following year he received a Performer’s Certificate from NIU. Mr. Roth has performed in master classes for eminent guitarists such as Manuel Barrueco and Elena Papandreou. Additionally, he has studied privately with Denis Azabagic and Douglas Niedt.

Kamen Vatchev - ViolinBA, Music Performance, Music Academy of Bulgaria. MA from Northwestern University, where he studied with violin professor Gerardo Ribeiro. Additional studies with Smuel Ashkenasy from the Vermeer Quartet and Blair Milton and Albert Igolnikov from the Chciago Symphony Orechestra. He has won several awards from national competitions

Refunds/CreditsWithdrawals must be made no later than one week before classes begin and will be subject to a 10% administrative fee. Students who withdraw from class during the week prior to class will be subject to a 50% administrative fee. No refunds will be given for withdrawals made on the day of or after the first class. HCA is not responsible for providing refunds or make-up classes for students who miss classes. Class fees cannot be deferred or pro-rated. As space allows, we will accept enrollments after the term begins; such enrollments will be pro-rated.

CancellationsPlease note that HCA reserves the right to cancel a class, workshop or camp; if enrollment is insufficient, students will receive a full refund. Cancellations may be made at the last minute and students will be notified by phone. HCA reserves the right to change instructors, class structure or to discontinue any class without incurring obligations.

Special NeedsHinsdale Center for the Arts strives to meet the needs of persons with disabilities. HCA has handicapped parking, entrances and rest rooms. If you have additional special needs please contact us and we will do everything we can to accommodate your needs.

PaymentRegistrations will be accepted by mail, fax: 630-887-1470, phone: 630-887-0203 or in person. Full payment must be made in advance of the first class. Registrations for off-site classes at The Community House must be taken at that location, all other off-site classes need to be registered through Hinsdale Center for the Arts.

To register by mail, complete the registration form on page 19 and mail with payment to: Hinsdale Center for the Arts, PO Box 175, Hinsdale, IL 60522-0175. Please do not mail registrations to our street address.

Registration is not complete until full payment is received and the adult student or a parent/legal guardian has signed the registration form.

We do not send mailed confirmation of registrations. If you wish to receive confirmation, please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope with your registration. You may also confirm your registration by calling our office at 630-887-0203.

Waiting ListsWaiting lists will be formed when a class, workshop or camp is filled. Every attempt will be made to open additional classes.

ScholarshipsHinsdale Center for the Arts is pleased to offer scholarships for children and adults. Selection is based on financial need and scholarships are applied to classes, summer camps, group and private music lessons. Application forms are available at the front office.

ParkingThere is plenty of parking adjacent to the Arts Center with spaces to accommodate the needs of our patrons. Our thanks to the Village of Hinsdale for providing this amenity. Please note the entrance into Katherine Legge Memorial Park is off of County Line Road.

We are so glad you are here at Hinsdale Center for the Arts (HCA). Please arrive on time and prepared for class. If you must miss a class, please contact the office at 630-887-0203.

MusiC studentsMusic students must register for the entire session. Private music tuition must be paid in full at registration or in two equal payments prior to the start of the midpoint of each session.

Private music lessons cancelled less than 24 hours ahead of time will not be made up. Other make up lessons will be at the discretion of the instructor. Contact the instructor directly for information regarding make-up lessons.

Music Students should bring their music, instrument, and pencil to each lesson. Music students are expected to practice their lesson material outside of class. Music teachers reserve the right to terminate lessons if there is a consistent lack of preparation.

Visual art studentsStudents must register prior to the start of each new quarter or session, with tuition paid in full to participate in classes. If a student is not registered they will not be admitted into the class, even if they have attended the previous quarter. Supply lists will be provided at time of registration for adult classes, supplies are included for children’s classes.

danCe studentsStudents must register prior to the start of each new quarter or session, with tuition paid in full to participate in classes. Dance students should attend all classes dressed in appropriate attire for each class, as indicated in our printed material, web site or requested by the teacher.

tHeater/literature studentsStudents must register prior to the start of each new quarter or session, with tuition paid in full to participate in classes. Theater students should bring their script, music and pencil to each class, as needed. Due to the nature of some theater classes, students may be asked to supply some sort of prop, costume, etc.

HCa refund PoliCy Refunds/Credits Withdrawals must be made no later than 1 week before classes begin and will be subject to a 10% administrative fee. Cancellations may occur within the week before a class is scheduled to begin and students will be notified by email or telephone.

HCa’s WaVier and liability releaseBy registering for or participating in any class, program or activity, the student and/or parent/ guardian agrees to indemnify and hold harmless Hinsdale Center for the Arts (HCA) and its officers, directors, employees, instructors, agents and volunteers and all other persons associated officially or unofficially with HCA from any and all claims for physical or property loss, damage, injury or death from any cause whatsoever arising out of or in any way connected with any HCA program, performance, instruction or any use of the HCA facility or any facility operated or controlled by HCA, whether in whole or in part. The signer agrees that faxed signatures may be accepted as original signatures. By signing this form, all students agree to abide by HCA’s code of conduct.

Photographs or video may be taken during class, program or activity and will remain the property of HCA, and may be used for promotional, or news media purposes. Please contact the office if you have any questions regarding photographs.

All required fees are payable in advance and must accompany registration. Please keep this form for your records.
