Narendra Datar began his formal musical training at the age of sixteen under Agra gharana vocalist Pandit Vasantrao Kulkarni. Since 1986, he has been active in Toronto as a teacher, performer, and composer. He is a recipient of the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute Senior Performing Arts Fellowship. This event is part of Sarang: A Series of South Asian Performing Arts. MiST is located in the CCT building in room CC0150. Parking is available in the CCT parking garage. Toronto’s own Narendra Datar presents a lecture demonstration on the modal and rhythmic structures of North Indian classical music, followed by a performance of classi-cal, semi-classical, and devotional pieces.
