It is a religion that practically starts with the wants and needs of human being as it moves into religious teachings, and the expression of these wants and needs are put forth into

2 PATHS:

1.) Path of Desire

● Pleasure, wealth, fame and power.

2.) Path of Renunciation

● Liberation

• Man is born inherently divine.

UNION OF ATMAN-

BRAHMAN

Atman- individual soul (Consciousness)

Brahman- Divine being ( Godhead)

Ways to achieve

Yoga – means of attaining union of ATMAN with BRAHMAN.

Assumption 1:

“Hindu believes that Man is a layered being :

1.) Body

2.) Conscious Mind

3.) Sub-conscious Mind

4.) True-self or Core ( Brahman)

Types of Yoga:

1.) Jnana Yoga (Intellectual Way)

~Oneness through KNOWLEDGE.

2.) Bhakti Yoga(EMOTIONAL WAY)

~Oneness through Love.

3.) Karma Yoga(THROUGH LOVE)

~ oneness through everyday action.

4.) Raja Yoga(EXPERENTIAL WAY)

~Self-realization and realization of Brahman.

The Four Stages of Life:

• 1st

Stage (STUDENT)

~begins after the rite of Initiation.

~between 8 and 12.

~lives in the house of his teacher.

• 2nd

Stage (HOUSEHOLDER

OR PRACTICAL PERSON)

~begins with marriage.

~manifestation of worldly responsibilities.

• 3rd

Stage (RETIREMENT)

~after the birth of his grandchild.

~contemplation of life’s total meaning and a time to work to greater realization.

• 4th

Stage (SANNYASIN)

~one who neither hates nor love anything.

~state of ATMAN-BRAHMAN.
