Hillsborough Primary School N E W S Belfast Street, Hillsborough, Auckland 1042 www.hps.school.nz Ph: (09) 625 7307 [email protected]13 th December 2017 CHILDREN’S GIFTS Principal’s Note: Dear Parents and Caregivers Kia Ora Here we are at the end of another year. It has been a fantastic year for me in my role as Principal. I have really appreciated all the support and encouragement that I have received throughout the year. It has been a huge confirmation to receive a highly supported ERO report this year where part of the report stated. . “Children are learning across the breadth of the New Zealand Curriculum and learn in caring and inclusive environments. The curriculum is responsive to the community’s aspirations. This is evident in the way teaching programmes incorporate the Hillsborough School’s values, identified learning skills and the well-established children’s inquiry approach. Senior leaders and teachers are catering well for children’s diverse needs. Children with additional needs have their progress monitored closely. The board ensures that appropriate resources are available to enhance children’s learning, and support them to access the curriculum. “ I would like to thank all the Teaching and Support Staff for their hard work this year and wish them a relaxing well earned break. I would also like to thank you all for the support that you give not only to your children but to us as a school and because of this partnership we have an excellent opportunity for all children to be successful. I do hope that you have a fun filled Christmas and a relaxing holiday break. I wish you all the best for the New Year. Chess News
After winning the Auckland Central competition (taking both first and second places) we were able to take two teams to compete in Christchurch. Our team of Adam Ali, Kevin Dai, Abraham Chanwong, Evan Yong, Chantelle Vossen-Chong, Alan So, Rocco Gough, Julius Hall and Sreehari Muralidaran. The competition was over two days and the results were very close. We were a couple of games away from medals. But everyone played to their ability and should be proud of themselves. You may be interested to note that Mt Roskill Intermediate came 3rd in the intermediate division; with a team all past-pupils of Hillsborough Primary.
We ALSO qualified for the Chess Power national finals. While the same teams were there as for the NZCF championship, the format of the competition is different, and recognises the depth of chess talent at a school, rather than a team relying on one or two star players. Our team of Adam Ali, Kevin Dai, Abraham Chanwong, Evan Yong, and Julius Hall performed amazingly well, and took 3rd place.
We farewell the following Staff Members
Joy Paton from R3 Laura Gladstone from R13 Emma Horne from R20 Saadyiah Musa Bronwyn Eeeles
Many thanks for all your support, we have appreciated all your hard work. We wish you all the best in your new positions.
