In the higher edu- cation sector, the country has been keen to form partnerships and joint ventures with international education providers and have at- tracted some of the most presti- gious education institutions from around the world. Presently the country’s adult lit- eracy rate hovers above 90 per cent, significantly higher than just a few decades back when it was at 54 per cent for men and 31 per cent for women. A sustained focus on education has witnessed the growing enrolment of nationals over the years. Local students con- stitute more than 43 per cent of the total student population in Dubai; while the last two years have seen an 18-per cent increase in Emirati males in higher education. The percentage of female students is also on the rise. The MSc in Real Estate Investment and Finance is aimed at executives and working professionals who may already have some experi- ence or interest in real estate markets, banking or investment and wish to upgrade their skills. The local real es- tate industry continues to mature to one of great complexity and an in- creasing institutional ownership structure. The increased complexity of the industry will create demand for practitioners who possess a compre- hensive real estate education. Pro- gramme Director, Michael Waters states: “The course is a credible al- ternative to an MBA. Professionals working in property need to start thinking more carefully about their postgraduate study options. Em- barking on a specialist Masters pro- gramme allows them the opportu- nity to study theoretical and practical finance, investment and appraisal techniques applied to global commercial real estate mar- kets — these are essentials to suc- ceed in this highly competitive business sector.” Tuition in the programme is based around lectures, IT labs and case studies from a wide range of international real estate markets to ensure students can apply the the- oretical concepts taught. Gradu- ates from the programme will have a strong desire to work in property and investment markets having been taught the latest concepts of mixed-asset portfolios, risk mitiga- tion and financial valuation mod- eling. CHarTered Institute of Man-agement Accountants (CIMAs) primary aim is to help both people and businesses succeed. Founded in 1919, it is the world’s leading and largest professional body of management accountants, with over 203,000 members and stu-dents operating in 173 countries, working at the heart of business. CIMA members and students work in industry, commerce, the public sector and not-for-profit organisations.

The CIMA qualification is open to everybody, regardless of their educational background. It can open doors to many different in-dustries and career paths, and one can gain valuable work experience as he or she goes along. You don’t need to have a degree to start your CIMA studies. In fact, many grad-uates who have been to university find that a degree alone is not enough. Many decide to study the CIMA qualification after they have completed their degree to learn the practical skills they need to

achieve their career goals. If you’re looking for an alterna-

tive to university that will allow you to immediately progress your career, earn a great salary and be-come professionally qualified in the process, then CIMA could be for you. Many of the world’s big-gest employers recognise CIMA as a global qualification that best meets their business needs; no other professional accountancy body is aligned so closely to those needs. CIMA combines the rigour of an accounting qualification with business skills needed to of-fer strategic advice and manage risk. Our international reputation ensures that doors will open for you around the world.

CIMA has formed a joint ven-ture with the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) to establish the Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) designation.

CGMA is the global quality stan-dard that further elevates the profession of management ac-counting. A CGMA designation is truly a global passport to success. This is highlighted by the fact that CIMA, already the world’s largest professional body of man-agement accountants, enjoyed massive growth in new and emerging markets.

CIMA has no crystal ball but it believes that the CGMA designa-tion will play a central role in the business and finance profession. The fundamental quality of the CGMA designation is people. The human dimension is life and sole of any businesses. People’s ideas, skills and knowledge drive com-panies. CIMA students who hold the Chartered Global Manage-ment Accountants possess these qualities in abundance and busi-nesses know this.

The CIMA qualifications in Is-lamic Finance (IF) include four certificate modules: Islamic Com-mercial Law, Islamic Banking and Takaful, Islamic Capital Markets and Accounting for Islamic finan-cial Institutions. Diploma in Is-lamic Finance and an Advanced Diploma Programme is also of-fered. These qualifications give a non-theoretical hands-on ap-proach to those taking up IF, giv-ing students the confidence to talk about the various aspects of IF and on completion of the Ad-vanced Diploma, the ability to de-velop products and services rele-vant to today’s business environment.

The institute’s qualification is open to everybody, regardless of their educational background
