  • about Creative Space

Creative Space is a nonprofit social enterprise, established by a group of experts in community service work, active in the disadvantaged Ngrd county of Hungary. Our aims are to promote volunteering and international mobility and create an inspiring environment for non-formal learning.

Target group:- unemployed people - youth in transition between school and work- people facing challenges: marginalized social, cultural and educational background, discrimination, poverty. - volunteers, civic activists and professionals

Ngrd villages are endangered by becoming uninhabited within 1-2 generations time because of the lack of education and work opportunities,. We cooperate with local NGOs and stakeholders to realise the strategy called Liveable Countryside Program where Creative Space support the growing-up generations, and young adult families. We host workcamps, short and long term EVS, send volunteers abroad, and we are setting up a local network to improve employability, initiative and entrepreneurship, involve people in international projects. We search for ways to create attractive, 21st century living standards, while respecting the natural environment, keeping the traditions and the unique character of rural life.

We run a training center in the village of Hollk, where we have assisted several NGOs in running their Hungarian and international training courses, thematic exchanges, seminars, project and network meetings, and organise own projects since 2005. Methods used are outdoor, dance, theatre, coaching, mentoring, creative use of new media tools and platforms, cooking, creative recycling, realising own initiatives of participants. We connect to many networks: DIA, Global Youth Service Day, Cserht Nature Park, International Synergy Group, YouthNetworks.

The house is run by volunteers and the groups hosted. Our infrastructure, logistics and catering is capable to serve the unique needs of non-formal learning processes, international groups, and people with special needs.

Creative Space is located in a village called Hollk which is part of the UNESCO World Heritage and has preserved its authentic atmosphere, so it is a busy place for tourism. The nature around the village is beautiful, relaxing and has a lot of opportunities for biking, hiking, camping and different kind of outdoor activities. In the village there are 400 inhabitants and you can find one shop, post office, an ATM, a catholic church, muse-ums. Budapest is about 100 km, there are 2 direct buses / day and some more with an interchange. The centre of Creative Space is located at the edge of the village, next to the forest, 10 minutes walk from the centre. For more pictures please look at our homepage or Facebook GroupThe closest city (16km) is Szcsny where you can find necessary institutions (banks, schools, health center, pharmacy etc.), supermarkets, restaurants, community places, library, pubs, sport centre. This is one of the poorest regions in Hungary so there is no good transportation between the villages, the unemployment rate is high and there is no active social life for young people. Most of them is leaving to one of the big cities in Hungary for university and they dont come back after. English language is not well-known in this area.
