    HIDROSTAL PUMPS...

    This brochure provides an overview of Hidrostals rangeof submersible and immersible pumps. The pumps aredeployed in many industries worldwide in an extensiverange of applications. Based on Hidrostals uniquescrew centrifugal impeller technology the pumps alsoincorporate many other features exclusive to Hidrostalproducts.

    Detailed product selection and installation advice canbe obtained from Hidrostals Engineers, or approvedagents and distributors.

    The correct selection of pump for the design of the pump station is critical to Life Cycle Costing [LCC].Hidrostals Engineers, and their approved agents and distributors, can providedetailed information on selection and installation.

    A typical ywheel installation, pumping raw sewage. 4 xImmersible pumps with 175KW motors and a duty of 300l/sat 35m head per pump.

    The Water & Waste Industry acknowledges that initialpurchase price of a typical pump system represents onlysome 5% of a total 15-year LCC, which includes operationand maintenance costs.

    Hidrostal asserts that unseen signi cant costs canpotentially be incurred due to lost ef ciency, unscheduledmaintenance caused by full or partial blocking and not being t for purpose.

    From the time Hidrostal designed the screw centrifugalimpeller, innovation has been a key company culture.

    Hidrostal submersible/immersible pumps include:

    Screw centrifugal impeller in all pumps

    Immersible motor with dry running or submergedcapability. Oil cooling precludes issues with using pumpedliquid as coolant.

    Cable entry assemblies seal motor avoiding leakage frominside or outside the cable.

    Variable pump output using xed speed motor byprerotating liquids pre-pumping (see the Prerostal sectionon back page of brochure).

    Two speed submersible/immersible motors Externally adjustable high chrome liners resist wear and

    maintain optimum pump ef ciency. Optional ywheel in motor enclosure reduces effects of

    pipeline surges which can lead to pipeline damage.

    MATERIALS

    PUMP CONSTRUCTION

    The standard materials of construction are grey cast ironwith a nodular iron impeller. The pump shaft is stainlesssteel. Alternative materials are available for increased wearand corrosion resistance.

    The above combinations are standard build, butcomponents can be interchanged and other materials areavailable to suit speci c applications.

    Cable mechanically clamped to eliminatestrain on sealing elements.Outside of cable is sealed by acompressed grommet.Each cable conductor is isolatedfrom the motor by copper damswhich prevent moisture leakingthrough the interior of the cable inthe event of cable damage.Poured epoxy totally encapsulateseach individual conductor andcopper dam preventing moisturefrom entering the motor via theoutside or inside of the cable.

    Motors are shipped with free end of

    cable tted with a waterproof sleeve.

    MOTOR CABLE ENTRY

    All immersible motors are ef ciently cooled by oil, containedwithin a jacket, circulated around the motor, by an impellerlocked to the motor shaft.The oil transfers the heat to the pumped liquid, through a

    nned back cover between the pump and the motor.The Hidrostal cooling method has advantages over othersystems which circulate the pumped liquid through internalcooling channels which often become coated with sludgeand slime, reducing the heat transfer and effectively deratingthe motor.

    COOLING

    Both seals run in an oil bath which lubricates the pumpside seal faces in the event of dry running. The pump sideseal has faces of tungsten carbide running against siliconcarbide, effective for abrasive applications.For heavy-duty applications the pumpside seal springs aretotally enclosed in a rubber boot or metal body dependingon application. Motor side seals are of the open spring typewith carbon/ceramic faces.

    TANDEM MECHANICAL SEALS

    The lower bearing carries the axial thrust, the weight of therotating unit and substantial radial loads. To ful l its L10design life, periodic regreasing is necessary on certainmodels. This is easily done by removing a watertight coverwhich exposes a greasing nipple.The upper bearing carries a lighter load and does notrequire regreasing between major overhauls.

    REGREASING OF BEARINGS

    All Hidrostal motors can operate with inverters and softstarts, provided quality electrical elements of approvedspeci cation are used.

    INVERTERS & SOFT STARTS

    All 50hz motors are approved by ATEX for explosionproof application to 112G EExd11BT4 bzw and112GEZxd[ib]11BT4.

    EXPLOSION PROOF MOTORS

    Dual wound, two speed, submersible and immersible motorsare available to suit individual applications.

    TWO SPEED MOTORS

    Klixon type temperature sensors are built into the motorwinding. Thermistors are available as an option.

    MONITORINGMOTOR TEMPERATURE

    MOISTURE PROBE

    Monitors the condition of the pump side seal by detectingwater ingress in the cooling/seal chamber oil.

    An alarm is triggered when a signi cant amount of waterhas entered, indicating that the pump side seal should bereplaced.

    Detects any water or oil passing through the motor side sealwhich could cause failure of the lower bearing. This featureis standard on larger motors and an option on smallerversions.

    FLOAT SWITCH

    Most Hidrostal motors have an option of monitoring bearingtemperature and on large motors thrust bearing temperaturesensors are provided as standard.

    For applications wherea permanent guide railsystem is inappropriate, ora temporary arrangementis required, all Hidrostalsubmersible (and immersible)pumps can be used as free-standing or portable units.

    For applications where the use of electric submersiblepumps is restricted by a lack of an electrical supply ora Zone 0 environment. Hidrostal can provide air orhydraulically driven portable or permanently installed units.

    AXIAL FLOWTUBE MOUNTED

    Hidrostal A type pumps are designedfor low head applications up to 10mand ows from 30 to 1,100l/s.The axial pump range is based aroundHidrostals classical screw centrifugalimpeller and standard range ofsubmersible motors.The difference is that the volute on thelow pressure versions is replacedwith a casing having an axialdischarge enabling the pumpsto be installed in a tube orconcrete chamber.

    ADVANTAGES OF WET PITINSTALLATION

    Hidrostal immersible pumps are a versatile, innovativedevelopment of the established submersible range.Capable of continuous operation in a dry installation,the immersibles may be operated, with equal ef ciency,when fully or partially submerged.

    The pumps are particularly suited for dry pit applications

    where the combination of the Screw Centrifugal Impeller andimmersible motor can be considered the state-of-the arttechnology. Leakage of the pumped product is eliminated bytandem seals running in an oil bath, avoiding a situationcommonly experienced with soft-packed glands.

    Hidrostal immersible waste water / sewage pump stationshave frequently been mistaken for clean water stations, dueto the lack of odour and the cleanliness of the buildings.

    Immersible pumps are particularly suitable for installationwhere quiet running, clean surroundings, reliableand long trouble-free operation is required.

    ADVANTAGESOF DRY PITINSTALLATION

    Immersible pumps can be installed in the same manner assubmersible pumps

    Liquid level can be drawn down to pump casing withoutrisk of overheating the motor.

    Shallower sumps compared with conventional submersiblepump installations.

    Standard, guide rail-mounted immersible pumps arepositioned in such a way that they draw liquid from aspecially designed basin having a tangential inlet. Thegeometry of the basin causes the liquid to rotate at thepump inlet at a rate determined by the sump level. Sinceoutput relates to the speed of the liquid rotation the pumpautomatically varies its delivery.

    PREROSTAL AUTOMATIC FLOWMATCHING SYSTEM

    A unique system, incorporating a Hidrostal immersiblepump, which automatically adjusts its output to matchvarying in ows, using a fxed speed motor. The systemalso has the capability of automatically skimming andpumping oating materials, oil and greases, eliminatingmaintenance and reducing odour.

    The Preroclean isa simpli ed versionof the Prerostal,designed to eliminatesump maintenanceand reduce odour.It combines theHidrostal screwcentrifugal impellerpump with a specialbasin arrangementto make the sumpself cleaning. Withthe special sumpgeometry installed, the pump behaves exactly like a normal

    submersible pump until the sump level approaches stoplevel. At this point the sump geometry induces a strongrotating ow which entrains all oating materials includingoils and greases and pumps them into the dischargesystem. The result is that on every pump cycle all the solidsand oating material [fat, oil, etc.] is pumped out of the sumpto the screen and because there is no build up of solidsor fats in the sump, the pump does not block and is keptclean. The Preroclean is ideal for duties within ef uent andindustrial treatment processes.
