Hideki Tojo: Pearl Harbor

There was a major war conflict between Japan and China. Japan wanted to expand it’s boarders and gain protection from China.

At first, the United States was aiding Japan in their efforts but then began selling weapons and supplies to China.

The U.S. did not agree with Japans efforts against China and began to decrease economic support for their war.

“American officials responded to this aggression with a battery of economic sanctions and trade embargoes. They reasoned that without access to money and goods, and especially essential supplies like oil, Japan would have to rein in its expansionism.”

For years, Tojo was seen as a hero. But after the Battle of Midway and the fall of Saipan, he was forced to resign on July 18, 1944.

After Japans surrender in 1945, America demanded the arrest of Tojo and several other war criminals .

Quote:  "I am very sorry it is taking me so long to die. The Greater East Asia War was justified and righteous. I am very sorry for the nation and all the races of the Greater Asiatic powers. I wait for the righteous judgment of history. I wished to commit suicide but sometimes that fails."
