ORGANIZING COMMITTEE
Dear delegates,
It’s about a year ago that we embarked on a journey, which we knew from the very start, will never end. Your whole hearted support in our previous endeavor has given us the courage to continue our initiative. The advocacy program on hospital infection control continues this year, in its new avatar as ‘STRATEGIES TO COMBAT ANTIMICROBIAL RESISTANCE - pursue or perish’. The focus this year is on the World Health Organization’s theme for World Health Day, 2011.
We are at the crossroads. Almost all micro-organisms known to man have started to develop resistance, at a rate much faster than newer drugs are being developed. So much so that, there are only a handful of pharmaceutical companies willing to invest in the development of newer molecules. At this rate, in the very near future, there will not be any effective antibiotics for many of the life threatening infections like AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, etc.
Now, the time has come for us - the medical fraternity - to find a solution on a

war footing. The first step of the solution is quite simple - judicious use of antibiotics. Infection control by other means is also equally important. This conference is all about these and much more.
