Do stars twinkle?Stars look like they are twinkling because we are seeing them through a thick layer of stuff that is moving which makes stars look like they are twinkling.

How does a star begin?Stars begin with hydrogen, helium and some other elements as soon as they start joining together is starts creating a star.

What is a star?A star is a big ball of hot, glowing gas. The gas is mostly hydrogen and helium. Stars give off heat, light, and other kinds of energy.

A star has several layers. The part in the centre of a star is called its core. A star shines

because of its core. The core is so hot and tightly packed that atoms crunch together.

Atoms are tiny bits of matter that are so small you cant see them. Hydrogen atoms

crunch together and become helium atoms. This is called nuclear fusion. Nuclear fusion gives off enough energy to make the stars

shine.

What is a constellation? In ancient times when people looked up at the starry night sky, they thought they saw shapes

in groups of stars. We call these shapes constellations. There are a lot of constellations in the sky, e.g. The saucepan and the southern

cross.

How long would it take to travel to the nearest star?

The Sun is the closest star to Earth and is the centre of our solar system. The light from the Sun heats our world and makes life possible. If there was no such thing as the Sun we would freeze. it is 93 million miles away, and if you travelled at 1000 kilometres per hour it would take you 17 years.

Early astronomersHow did astronomers study stars before the

telescope was invented?

Before the telescope was invented, people would

usually just use binoculars or just their eyes!

Telescopes are much better I think because they are much bigger and you

can see more.

What is a Radio Telescope?

Radio telescopes are huge antennas that get data from all of the stars and galaxies. This is an example below

What was the first telescope invented ?

Hans Lippershey also known as Johann Lippershey, was a German-Dutch lens maker. He was the man who first invented the first telescope. He was born in 1570 and invented the telescope in 1605! How he did it? One day he saw if he put two lenses together you could see much further.

Binary Star and Globular Cluster

A globular cluster is a collection of stars that orbits the middle of them. Globular clusters are very tightly put together by gravity, which gives them their circular shapes.

Globular Cluster

Binary stars is a star system of two stars orbiting around the centre .The brighter star is called the primary and the other is its companion star, comes, or secondary.

White Dwarf, Neutron and Red Giant

A typical White Dwarf is half as big as the Sun, yet only slightly bigger than the Earth. A white dwarf is just like the Sun making it a star.

White Dwarfs

A neutron star is about 20 km long and has the weight of about 1.4 times of our Sun. On Earth, one teaspoon full of the neutron star, would weigh 1 billion tons.

Neutron Stars

A red giant is a huge luminous giant star and just like the sun it is very, very hot .One of the most common red giants are red giant branch stars.

Black hole, Nebulae and Supernova

NebulaeA Nebulae is a thing made out of cloud, dust, hydrogen, gas, helium and plasma. Originally Nebulae was a name for things beyond the Milky way for example the Andromeda galaxy was called Andromeda Nebulae. If I had to describe Nebulae I would describe it as a huge cloud only with more colours and is out in space.

SupernovaA Supernova is a huge explosion that is more energetic than a nova that’s why they call it a supernova. Supernovas are really ,really luminous and are very colourful as well. The explosion can usually outshine a whole galaxy! And takes a few weeks or months to actually fade away.

Black HoleA Black hole is obviously a Black Hole in space. It is called

“black” because any light that is around it, it absorbs . The Black Hole is in the middle of the Milky way.

The UniverseA light hour is 35 years-Did you know that the distance that light travels in one year is 9.46 trillion kilometres!

Did you know that the temperature of the universe is about 2.726 Kelvin which in Celsius is -270!

Believe it or not the universe is between 13.5 and 14 billion years old!

How old is our universe? Many astronomers think the universe began about 14 billion years ago! They think it suddenly exploded. They call this beginning the Big Bang. All of space began with the big bang.

How did the universe begin?

The universe began about 14 billion years ago with a kind of big explosion. They call the explosion the big bang. The big bang started

Many people believe it started from the Big Bang was a huge

explosion of energy. After a tiny, tiny bit of a second later

it started to cool down and started to form little particles called photons, which spread out in every single direction. Slowly, heaps of gas started clumping together making

some of the galaxies we still have today. Almost 10 billion years later the Milky Way and the Solar System were formed and things such as dinosaurs

as well.
