After a lot of thinking and pondering, I have come to the conclusion that it is the time to sell the farm and disperse ourherd. HI-CLIFFE was started by Harold and Irene Millham in 1942, when they bought two purebred heifers. The firstheifer died when she suffocated under a thrashing machine stack, when it collapsed on top of her. The second heiferproduced a cow that was very productive for 23 years.

In 1967, I married Bev. A week later, while we were at the summer shows, dad passed away. From then on, Bev and Iwere in charge of the farming operations. We had three children: Ashley, who has now spent 22 years in the ArmedForces, is a Warrant Officer with a degree as a Physician Assistant; Carmen graduated as a Veterinarian in 1995 andnow runs his practice in Outlook SK; Jamie is a Registered Nurse who works in Yorkton, SK. In June 2006, Bev passedaway suddenly.

Showing cattle at Hi-Cliffe got started when I was about seven years old, at the local fairs. Dad would pull a smallhomemade trailer behind the 1954 one ton truck. 1966 was the first year we sold at the Regina Bull Sale. We showedcattle at the 125th Hereford show in Toronto, as well as all the major shows in western Canada. One cow in particular thatwe were very proud of was Hi-Cliffe LJ Vicky 4R. She was shown in Toronto as well as Ag-Ex and Agribition. Vicky neverplaced lower than fourth place at any show. She was shown for a consecutive 5 years at Agribition, likely a record.

Our show records are quite outstanding with grand champions at Ag-Ex in Brandon, Saskatoon Fall Fair and Bonanzas,as well as several class winners and divisional champions at Agribition. In 2010, we had both Champion Females andGrand Champion Bull at the Manitoba MOE Show and Grand Champion Cow at the SE Sask MOE Show.

As this is our complete herd dispersal, we invite you to evaluate our herd and come join us for lunch and the sale onOctober 24 at 2 pm.

From T Bar’s DeskFrom T Bar’s Desk

The Hi-Cliffe program spans sixty-eight years and four generations of the Millhamfamily producing and supplying Hereford seed stock to the livestock industry.Situated on the northern rim of the Qu’Appelle valley, the family has operated amixed farming operation cropping the top hills and grazing the ravines that borderthe river below for over seven decades. Hi-Cliffe has been a close knit familyoperation, with the family members making up the team at shows and sales. Jim andBev have been avid supporters of the junior movement in the breed and all threechildren have successfully benefited from their efforts. Carmen, the third generation

Millham, has now taken over the Hi-Cliffe junior position, being a supporter of theCanadian Junior Hereford Association and his local 4-H club.

Our association with the Millham Family goes back several decades, through sales and our children being involved in theCJHA. In reflecting on the past, the first thought which comes to mind is performance. Jim Millham believes inperformance and pounds. For many years at the Regina Bull Sale, Hi-Cliffe offered the heaviest, strongest bulls of anycontributor and in most cases commanded the highest dollars paid by ranchers and commercial cattlemen purchasingbulls. As you walk through this cow herd, you will find that the heavy, deep bodied cow families have been retained andthis powerful cow herd stems from just a few foundation cows.

Although some A.I. was used in the younger days, Jim always wanted top walking bulls which had to have the highestdegree of soundness, as they had to chase cows up and down the rugged side hills. This is an awesome footed cow herdbuilt on necessity rather than fad.

Although it is sad to see Jim sell this cow herd, dispersals offer unlimited opportunities for all who choose to explore anddiscover. All of the females who have been competitive for Hi-Cliffe sell and will be features. The herd sires offered aredesigned to add pounds of calf at weaning, with low maintenance from birth onward. They are proven and the progenyselling will be proof of their value. Remember that only in a dispersal can one select from the entire cow herd, built andproven by years of culling and experience.

Plan to be with us for the Hi-Cliffe complete dispersal … it will well be worth the trip.

Feel free to stop by Jim’s at any time prior the sale and take a look at the herd; he is located twenty miles straight north ofWapella off the Trans Canada highway.

If we, at T Bar C, may be of any assistance, prior to or sale day, do not hesitate to give us a call.

See you at Hi-Cliffe.

– Ted

You will see definite influence in the Quaker bred yearlings that sell.It is yet to be seen if Quaker will go on to become a multi-trait sire himself but one thing is for certain, he has a positive influence on our programand will no doubt do the same for his new owner. He sells with 20 vials of semen for in herd use only.Selling full possession and ¾ semen interest.
