Farmers & Vendors
Collectively the markets offer produce and other local food from 25 farm vendors based in the New York area.
Why?
Low and middle income communities lack access to healthy food, especially fresh fruits and vegetables.
A significant number of residents need nutritional education and guidance to recognize how healthy foods can fight chronic obesity and disease.
Manhattan: In East Harlem, 31% are overweight and another 31% are obese. This is the highest percentage among New York City.
Brooklyn:In Sunset Park, 1 in 5 adults are obese and9% have diabetes.
Bronx In Central Bronx, 41% of residents live below the poverty level. 8% - 16% of adults are suffering from diabetes.
