Upcoming Elections
Dear Voters: Normally during an off election cycle the elections
office is busy with list maintenance and other important projects.
However, this year at the request of the Hernando County School
Board a Special Election will be held on September 8, 2015. This
election will be a referendum on a half cent sales tax. Book
Closing for this election will be on August 10, 2015. After this
time, anyone who registers to
vote will not be eligible to vote in this election. Vote by Mail
Ballots will be mailed to all voters who have a standing request.
There will be no Early Voting for this election. Polling locations
will be open from 7:00am-7:00pm on September 8, 2015. We are very
busy confirming polling locations, assigning poll workers, and
preparing election equipment. In addition to the special election
we are very excited to announce we will be purchasing new voting
equipment. Our current voting equipment is 17 years old and
technology has changed since the initial purchase. Delivery of new
equipment is expected in October 2015. There will be extensive
acceptance testing and a mock election to fully test equipment
before use in the March 15, 2016 Presidential Preference Primary.
So, as you can see 2015 is a very busy year for the elections
office. Please like us on Facebook and share this newsletter with
friends and family in Hernando County so we can continue to educate
voters about the elections process.

Partnership News
Supervisor of Elections Office Partners with Tax Collectors
Office for Improved Efficiencies
The Hernando County Tax Collector and the Hernando County
Supervisor of Elections are pleased to announce a successful joint
training program. Supervisor of Elections Shirley Anderson and her
staff conducted the joint training with the Tax Collector customer
service representatives who process voter registration
applications. A partnership between the Elections Office and the
Tax Collectors office began in 1993 with the passage of the
National Voter Registration Act, commonly referred to as the Motor
Voter Act.
Move Your Vote Initiative launched
by Elections Office and Hernando
County Association of Realtors
Hernando County Supervisor of Elections and Hernando County
Association of Realtors have formed a partnership to help the
Elections office with their ongoing mission of promoting the vote
in Hernando County. Move Your Vote is a voter outreach program to
help educate new homeowners about registering to vote or updating
their current voter information in Hernando County. Purchasing a
new home is a very exciting and challenging time. Often, updating
your address with
the Supervisor of Elections office is overlooked until Election
Day. The Elections office will provide
a Voter Registration Application, Voters Guide and an
informational postcard to the Hernando
County Association of Realtors. This information will then be
distributed to their clients who are
purchasing a new home.

Supervisor of Elections Shirley Anderson is pleased to announce
272 new voter registrations from the five area high schools. Senior
Clearance is an annual event in which graduating seniors go through
numerous check out
stations, including a voter registration booth. Voters can
pre-register at age 16, however they are ineligible to vote until
their 18th birthday.
Voter outreach is an important aspect of the Elections Office.
It is important to work with our school system to register new
voters. By physically being in the schools, we are able to reach
students who
might not have pre-registered. Congratulations to all Hernando
County Seniors! I look forward to seeing you at the polls!
