Hermeneutic Codes The Hermeneutic code is the narrative codes which play a part of a story which isn’t explained fully, it’s these codes which create narrative enigmas. Some say detective style enigma as the audience go through the whole film still wondering if the narrative enigma which came up at the start of the film will be explained. Roland Barthes was a great theorist as he was the one who came up with the 5 major codes. He always talked about how the interest of the audience can be influenced by capturing a shot which suggest that the character is being followed or watched. In the film that my group created we tried to place a partial answer, right at the end the audience are draw to the conclusion that the reason so many deaths happen is due to the creature lurking inside the school in this case Cannibal.
