REEL VERSUS REALWANDERLUST LETTERS

SOURAV SAMANTRAY, BARIPADA

Sir, I t is hi larious to learn that a member of astunt team, hidden inside the cabin, shiftedthe clutch and gear to help actor ShrutiHassan to drive a truck. At the same t ime Iappreciate Shruti ’s candid confession abouther inabi l i ty to drive a heavy vehicle. Notmany actors can dare to reveal their short-comings before the media. However, i t isimportant for an actor to open up on suchissues as there are several instances of fansperforming these stunts without taking help ofexperts and end up hurting themselves. Thereis a need to understand that on-screen scenesare meant for entertainment only and theydon’t have l ink to real ity.

These are challenging times whenpeople brace themselves to deal witheven tougher situation in future. So, celebration of festivals at this

moment is just unthinkable. However, RakshaBandhan, a festival that celebrates the brother-sister bond, is unique and beyond descriptionin words. Therefore, siblings are set toobserve the festivity, albeit on a lesser scale.

Handmade rakhis, for a change, havebecome a rage this year in the state withrestrictions imposed on opening of shopsdealing with non-essential goods. A majorreason that has helped in growing sales ofthese ‘swadeshi’ rakhis is the tension betweenIndia and China after the Galwan stand-off.People are reluctant to buy the rakhis man-ufactured in China. The demand for homeand online delivery of locally-made rakhis isgrowing steadily. A few rakhi-makers of theTwin City share their feelings with SundayPOST.

Pokhariput-based social worker SushantSahoo’s main objective is to encourage

people to shun Chinese products. Sushantsaid, “Even as China’s hostile attitudetowards our country is a major reasonbehind my initiative, I enjoy designingthese ‘threads of love’. The non-avail-

ability of Chinese rakhis this yearhas helped me market my products

well. Being a social worker, Ihad launched Swadesi Kranti

Abhiyan and rakhi makingis part of this campaign. Mywife, an art teacher, helpsme in designing while someof my kin have also come

forward to support me in mak-ing rakhis and selling them. We

also make home deliveries of our products.“While the cost of branded rakhis ranges

between Rs 50 and Rs 500, our eco-friendlyrakhis don’t cost more than Rs 30. So far,we have sold 2,000 pieces of rakhis in last15 days.”

Sushant’s wife Anasuya, says, “The pandemichas not diminished the spirit of festivities inOdisha. Since people cannot venture out to

buy rakhis dueto lockdown, my hus-

band came up with the ideato make handmade rakhis. Ourproducts are made from cotton,

paper, mud, seeds, pulses, riceand food grain which are bio-

degradable. We are happy thatpeople are gradually rejecting products

from China.”Cuttack-based Lipsa Behura, an MBA,

makes rakhis using wastes. But she doesn’tmake them to make money. She distributesrakhis among her friends and relatives to cel-ebrate the occasion wholeheartedly.

She says, “Not only rakhi, I design decorativeitems using rags. I usually post about mycreations on my Instagram page ‘BeyondWaste’. This is my way to promote recyclingand an eco-friendly environment. I use stufflike old notebooks, cotton, wool, co-conut shells, chocolate wrappers, paper quills, stained glass, custardapple seeds, old clothes, dry flowers, leaves and colorful waste papers, card-

boards amongothers, to make the rakhis.”

She continued: “People earlier preferredChinese rakhis due to their looks

and wider product range. But the mindset

is chang-ing slowly butsteadily. I am distributingthem so that people won’t go for Chinesegoods. Inspired, some of my friends havealso started making rakhis using waste ma-terials.”

Interestingly, Lipsa ties a rakhi to LordSri Krishna as she doesn’t have a brother.

to prefer Chinese rakhis due to their vibrant colours and

varieties. But the mindset ischanging slowly but steadily

following the Sino-Indian border tension, says a local

my brother appreciatedit which was importantfor me. It was the in-tention which mattersrather than the output,he said. Since then, Ihave made it a pointto make rakhi for mybrother on my own.It may not match upto the colourfulnessof the products that

are available in the market but theemotion attached with it has no match.Due to restrictions, many friends haveapproached me to make rakhis for their

Raksha Bandhan is the only festival inIndia that celebrates sibling love.Needless to say, girls love to dress up

and look their best on this occasion too. However, looking beautiful is all about

choosing the right shades of colour cosmetics.Selecting them according to skin colour andtone is as essential as learning the techniquesof application.

Therefore, flaunt a celebration-perfect lookthis Rakhi 2020 with herbal beauty tips toensure you have a really fun-filled, sortedand shining day of brother-sister affection.

It’s a good idea to start following a fewbeauty tips a few days before, to add a glowto the skin. In the hot and humid season, the skin needs toning and refreshing. Hereare some home remedies:

Watermelon juice is a good skin toner andrelieves dryness too. It cools, refreshes andsoftens the skin. Apply on the face and washoff with plain water after 20 minutes.

FRUIT MASK FOR ALL SKIN TYPESFruits like banana, apple, papaya, orange

can be mixed together and applied on theface. Keep it on for 20 to 30 minutes. Thenwash off with water. It cools the skin, cleansesdead cells and removes tan.

Cooling mask: Mix cucumber juice withtwo teaspoons powdered milk and one eggwhite into a smooth paste. Apply on faceand neck and rinse off with water after halfan hour.

Mask for oily skin: Mix one tablespoonMultani Mitti with rose water into a pasteand apply on the face. Wash off when dry.

After applying face mask, take two of thecotton wool pads soaked in rose water anduse them as eye pads. Squeeze out the rosewater and then apply on closed lids. Lie downand relax, while you have the mask and eyepads on. Used tea bags can also do the trick.Soak them in a little warm water, squeeze outthe water and apply on the eyes like eye pads.

To soften rough, bushy or frizzy hair, mixsome water with creamy hair conditionerand put it in a spray bottle. Spray the mixtureon the hair. Then comb the hair, so that itspreads through the hair.

Raksha Bandhan is usually celebrated duringthe day. Daytime make-up has to be lightand carefully done. If you have a clear skin, leave out foundation. After cleansing, applya sunscreen with a built-in moisturiser. Thenapply powder. Translucent powder, like a

baby powder, is good. For oily skin, applyastringent lotion, instead of moisturiser. Then, apply compact powder. Pay attention to theoily areas of the face, like nose, forehead andchin. Press the powder all over the face andneck, with a slightly damp sponge. This helpsit to set and last longer. If you wish to applyblusher, use less and blend well. Blush-onshould be like a gradual flush on the face.

For eye make-up stick to eye pencils duringthe day. Or line your eyelids with brown orgray eye shadow. This gives a softer effect. Then, apply only one coat of mascara, whichhelps to make the eyes look darker and brighter, but prevents the “heavily made-up” look.

For lipstick, avoid very dark colours, likedark maroon. Go for light pastel colours, pink, mauve, light browns, copper or bronze. The colours should not be too intense. Or,use only lip gloss.

Deciding on the right kind of foundationis also extrement important while puttingmakeup. Here are a few tips that can helpyou pikcing correct shades of foundation.

FAIR SKIN:While choosing foundation for a very fair

skin, go for beige with a rosy (pinkish) tint. For fair skins, use beige, pink or orange un-dertones. If the complexion is fair, but sallow(i.e. yellowish), avoid pink tones and go forbeige or biscuit shades. For eye colours, abrown eyebrow pencil may be more suitablethan black. Apply dark brown or dark greyeye shadow over black eyeliner. It will tonedown the stark black look. For fair skin, trypinks and reds for blushers and avoid darkcolours in lipstick.

WHEATISH COMPLEXION:Most Indian complexions are wheatish.

Go for water based foundations. Choose acolour as close to skin colour as possible.Avoid choosing lighter colour foundation. It will not provide a smooth finish, but givea mask-like effect. Use bronze or brown eyeshadow. Add a touch of gold under the brow. For blusher, try bronze. For the lips, go forwarm earthy colours, like coral, wine, plum, red and shades of red. A dark pink or rose-red would look good too. Avoid maroon, bright orange or very pale pink. The lip linercolour and lipstick colour should be the same.

DUSKY / OLIVE: (SLIGHTLYDARK)

Dusky, or olivecomplexions, look bet-ter with brownish beigeshades for Foundation. It should be a colour thatwill add some glow to theskin. For blushers, avoidmauves and light pink. Gowith darker pink, or evensome brown shades. A high-lighting powder will help toadd glow. Try it on your cheeks, along with your nose and fore-head. For eye make-up, go fordarker brown shadow, or try bronzeor silver. For dusky complexions, dark eyes look captivating. So, gofor black eyeliner and mascara.

DARK SKIN:If you have a dark skin, choose liquid

foundations, instead of a creamy one.The foundation should not be lighterthan your skin tone. Try to get one whichis as close to your normal skin colour aspossible. Try out foundation colours innatural brown tones. When you apply foun-dation and powder, your aim should be for a

lighter coverage. Special attention should bepaid to blending. Avoid white and lightcoloured shadows. Soft brown combinedwith darker brown would be good. Use akaajal pencil to outline the eyes. This canhave a stunning effect on dark skins. Forblusher, try a dark rose pink colour for theday and shades of bronze, plum, wine, forthe night. For special occasions at night, usea touch of gold. It can really look glamorouson dark skins. Apply it at the temples andunder the outer corner of the eyebrows. Forlips, a dark complexion looks good in vibrantcolours. Avoid very palecolours. Go for warmertones, like coral, bronze, red, wine.

Last but not the least,Have superb confidencein you and spread the wavesof the warmth of love andaffection with all familymembers .
