We tend to only think about pumpkins in the fall when they’re added to our lattes but they should be considered a larger part of our everyday diet and beauty regimen. Pumpkins have nu-merous uses in the kitchen, but did you

know they also have many health bene-fits? From assisting with the digestive system to helping to boost immunity and disease prevention – there’s not much these orange wonders can’t do!

Pumpkin seed oil has just as many benefits as the ever-popular coconut oil – it just isn’t as widely known! Pumpkin seed oil is rich in zinc, omega 3- and 6-, vitamin E and antioxidants. Here’s a quick and easy at-home pumpkin facial:

• The base: Whisk together about 1/4 cup of canned pumpkin and one whole egg. The yolk adds nourishment while the white provides a subtle tightening effect to sagging skin.

• For dry skin: Add a few teaspoons of honey, which not only seals in moisture, but prevents breakouts thanks to its antibacterial properties.

• For oily skin: For an astringent effect, mix in a splash of apple cider or cranberry juice.

Smooth the pumpkin-y potion over your face, relax for 15 to 20 minutes, and rinse to reveal a brighter, firm-er, smoother complexion.

All the ingredients in pumpkins help to

retain moisture in the skin, fight free radicals and most importantly naturally help to fight

the signs of aging.

Pumpkins can of course be eaten as well! Try adding the pulp from your annual carving to a broth recipe instead of chicken or vegetable broth. Premade broths are useful in a pinch and can be frozen for later. Another edible option is to add some pureed pulp to your morning smoothie or oatmeal. Pumpkins are rich in fiber – and we all need to integrate a bit more of that into our daily diets! Don’t love the taste? Feed it to your pup for a boost in energy and a gorgeous shine to their coat.

Mix spiced rum and Grand Marnier with pumpkin puree, and a dash of nutmeg, cinnamon and allspice over ice in a shaker and serve strained in a martini glass for the perfect spicy fall cocktail.

Pumpkin mousse is our new favorite fall go-to. Stir pumpkin puree with vanilla pudding mix, pumpkin spiceand cool whip.Serve at your next party. It’s sure to be a hit!

Hot Ingredients for Cold Weather Skin Care

You could be all bundled up in warm hat, scarf and gloves, but you may just forget that your skin needs protection too. Whether it’s cold and dry or hot and humid, an area’s climate can really affect the skin all over your body, causing everything from acne breakouts to itchy dry patches. Extremes in weather—both hot and cold—can exacerbate some existing skin conditions or even cause new ones. Colder climates can be especially tough on your skin. With lower temperatures comes lower humidity, significantly drying out your skin.

Throughout the winter months it is essential to moisturize skin really well—not just on your face, but all over your body. For this reason, you should avoid taking long hot showers, as that can really make skin even more dry and irritated. It’s good to change up your skincare regimen to make sure that everything you are using adds much needed moisture to your skin. Here are some ingredients to look for.Argan oil is incredibly valuable and effective in protecting the natural structure of the

skin. It originates from Morocco where it’s traditionally used to treat skin diseases, and as a cosmetic oil for skin and hair. The growing popularity of this natural “nourisher” has had a bene-ficial side effect on the social status of women in Morocco. The labor-intensive nature of argan oil production,

now frequently carried out by women’s co-operatives, has provided a steady income for many women and their families, and has encouraged producers of other agricultural products to examine the co-operative model. The same goes for Shea Butter. Shea butter comes from the nuts of karité trees that grow in the Sahel region extending from West to East Africa, from Guinea and Senegal to Uganda and South Sudan. For centuries shea butter has been called “women’s gold” not only for its rich golden color, but also because it primarily provides employment and income to millions of women across the continent. Using traditional methods, women, often organized in cooperatives, harvest karité fruits. They then crush the nuts inside to extract the precious butter, which is boiled, cleaned, packaged and sold at the local markets or exported. Shea butter is your skin’s best friend in the colder months. Not only does it help to retain the natural moisture in your skin but it has wonderful healing and anti aging properties too. Marula Oil is extracted from the kernals of the marula tree that grows in South Africa and contains fatty acids and antioxidants that do wonders for your skin. In fact, it actually contains 60

percent more antioxidants than argan oil. It’s super “skin friendly” with a natural makeup that comes close to the oils your own body creates. It plays nicely with your skin, healing and hydrating it without clogging or irritating it. Antioxidants and essential fatty acids like omegas-6 and -9 do a ton of work protecting your skin from environmental aggressors (sun, pollution, wind, etc.) that can cause premature aging, and they absorb more deeply and easily into your skin, since the molecules are much smaller than traditional hydrating oils. If the guacamole craze wasn’t enough, step aside for the Avocado Oil craze that’s coming up. Turns out avocados are good for you on the inside and out! With omega-3 fatty acids, avocado oil replenishes your skin with the good oils and fats. It also boasts a whole alphabet of Vitamins including Vitamins A, E, D, B1, B2, K, PP. It’s not only a great skin care treatment, but the vitamins mentioned above can also be beneficial for the entire body. To improve the overall condition of your hair, nails, skin and overall health, take 1 teaspoon of avocado oil twice daily, 30 minutes before eating for at least one month.Manuka Honey isn’t far from a miracle ingredient. The honey is rich in essential fatty acids that restore the oil and nutrients stripped from your skin once it’s washed. Manuka honey is produced by bees that feed on the manuka shrub of New Zealand’s remote North Island. Though all raw, unheated honeys have health benefits, manuka has been found to have higher

therapeutic properties than other varieties. While raw honey is packed with vitamins B, C and live enzymes, it loses many beneficial nutrients when exposed to heat high enough to kill bacteria. Manuka promotes skin regeneration, repairs cellular damage and reduces scarring. It also helps your skin retain moisture as well as absorbing moisture from the air for a dewy, glowing complexion. An ingredient that you may

not be so familiar with, Nigella Sativa has been used for thousands of years both topically and orally. The use of black seed oil (as it’s known) to beautify and improve skin conditions is well established; in fact, the famed beauty of Cleopatra is believed to be in part due to her

use of black seeds. The oil of the Nigella sativa is packed with Vitamins A, B, and C, calcium, potassium, magnesium, zinc and trace elements providing the necessary nutritive factors for skin recovery and repair. Black seed oil also has a number of useful pharmacological actions which make it a fantastic natural option for treating skin issues like psoriasis, eczema and acne. Black seed oil is also a natural anti-histamine ideal for treating for skin conditions related to allergies.

This oxblood lip look can be spooky or sexy, whichever you’re going for. Whether it’s a bold matte finish or a more shimmery shade, it will be sure to make your look sultrier. Can’t find oxblood? Try any deep wine or burgundy shade for a similar look. If you’re feeling daring, a deep purple will definitely get your date’s attention!

Eyes this season are focusing on one thing at a time. A nice bronze shadow or thick, graphic eyeliner are some simple looks that speak for themselves. A well-blended bronze eye can bring warmth to your face and make your eyes shine. As for the liner, let your in-ner artist go to town. Try making different shapes and lines for an edgy, three-dimensional look.

Everyone is going contour crazy. For a fierce look, chisel out those cheekbones with a bronze contour. If you’re going for a sweeter, softer look, a nice pinky blush will be a perfect natural flushed look. Not a big fan of pink? Not a prob-lem. Using a coral or peachy-based blush will get you that subtle, sweet look minus the pink.

The cold weather is on its way and that unfortunately means one thing: dry, dull skin. Men, don’t let your skin suffer through the cold months this winter. You don’t have to start wearing concealer, but there are plenty of options to keep your skin healthy and glowing all winter long!

While you may want to grow your beard out for the extra warmth, your boss might not approve. Using generic shaving creams can often cause rashes and irritation, but luckily there are various types of all natural products that will leave your skin looking and feeling healthy and smooth.

While finding an all-natural shaving cream is important, skin care shouldn’t stop at shaving. It’s equally important to replenish the moisture and natural oils that are stripped from your skin when you wash your face.

CAMOUFLAGE CONTOURING EYE ROLL-ONIf you’re clean-shaven and caffeinated but you’re still feeling a bit groggy from the night before, this eye roller might be your new best friend. As we said before, if you’re not too keen on wearing concealer you might want to do something about those dark un-der eye circles. This camouflage eye roll-on is made to reduce that puffiness you see under your eyes. The roller massages the under eye while applying a cooling gel containing sweet almond oil and vitamin E to gently wake up those under eyes.

CAMOUFLAGE SPEED SHAVING CREAMThe Camouflage speed shaving cream is a shaving cream made for men in a hurry. It goes on and off smoothly, giving you a quick and clean shave. Camouflage speed shaving cream contains Vitamin E and camomile to prevent irritation as well as aloe vera and sweet almond oil to calm and soothe your skin.

CAMOUFLAGE MOISTURIZING FACE BALMThe camouflage moisturizing face balm is great regardless of when you’ve last shaved. With its light gel consistency, it won’t leave a heavy, uncomfortable residue on your skin. The avocado oil locks in moisture and the carnosine decreases any premature aging, leaving your skin looking young and flawless.

To prevent skin irritation, make sure the area being shaved is thoroughly wet before using the razor.

Shave downwards, in the same direction as hair growth, to prevent pulling or pain.

Be sure not to overuse blades. A dull blade means a dull shave.

Your skin is more sensitive directly after shaving. Be sure to cleanse and nourish your face post-shaving to provide a smooth, clean finish.

TIPS

WINTER SPA LUXURYIf you are looking for a little spa luxury and a lot of pampering this holiday

season, then one of these spas might be for you! Wish we had the time to try them all out, not sure which we would pick first.

K SpaK Spa is the definition of a winter luxury spa. Located in London, K Spa is the first “snow paradise” spa to open in the area and was named “Best UK luxury hotel spa” at the World Spa Awards. The cabin of the spa is set to -15 degrees Celsius, designed to work with the spa’s hot-cold therapy. This therapy involves alternating between steam and ice environments to stimulate blood circulation and build up your immune system. The spa also contains a glass-paneled Hydrotherapy pool designed to relax your entire body from head to toe, as well as a Sun Meadow room designed to help with those effected by S.A.D. (Seasonal Affective Disorder). The Sun Meadow room is a type of light therapy that exposes you to light similar to that of the sun, releasing Vitamin D and endorphins.

The Spa at the Hotel HersheyThe Hotel Hershey Spa, located in Hershey, Pennsylvania, seems like your average spa until you get a closer look at their “sweet” package deals. The spa offers “chocolate everything” treatments that use chocolate for everything head to toe. If you’ve ever wanted to bathe in a tub full of melted chocolate, this spa was made for you. A whipped cocoa bath and a chocolate fondue wrap are just a few of the features offered at the Hershey Spa. If you’re not a huge chocolate lover, don’t worry - there are plenty of other options. They just may not leave your sweet tooth nearly as satisfied as “chocolate everything.”

Four Seasons Resort and Residence Vail SpaMen out there, this is definitely a spa you won’t mind going to with your partner. The Residence Vail Spa, located in Vail, Colorado, has partnered with Crazy Mountain Brewing Company, a beer brewing company located in Vail. The spa offers a Brew and Renew treatment, which includes the regular spa treatments, only using beer. Whether it’s the beer-drinking massage or the beer brew bath (an actual bath full of beer,) your inner college kid mindset, minus the PBR, will be thrilled.Don’t let the fact that it’s a beer treatment fool you into thinking it’s not as luxurious as the others. The yeast in the locally-made beer promotes cleansing effects on the feet and body, killing germs and nourishing your skin.

Thai Square SpaThe Thai Square Spa in London knows how to treat their guests like royalty. The spa offers treatments for anyone and everyone, including treatments for travelers and special maternity ther-apists. What makes them the most luxurious spa of all is their 24-karat pure gold collagen facial. The facial uses a very thin layer of 24-karat gold pressed onto the skin, to result in plump and glowing skin. If a pure gold facial doesn’t say luxury, we’re not sure what does.
