HelpAge Relief Route: On the morning of Saturday, July 20th

A convoy of 30 trucks will leave Dehradun with 84 tonnes of food packages

•Covering 99 villages in Chamoli, Uttarkashi & Rudraprayag

•Reaching remote and inaccessible villages on foot & mule back

•3000 families will receive relief packages – to last them only 15 days

•Each package (weighing 28 kgs) consists of:10 kg Wheat flour10 kg Rice3 kg Arhar dal2 kg Sugar1 kg Salt0.3 kg Spices (Chilli powder, Coriander powder and Turmeric powder, each 300 kg.)1 ltr Mustard oil0.5 kg Soya chunksWashing soapDetergent Soap10 match boxes

IMPACT OF FLASH FLOODS

•More than 178 villages affected in the districts of Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Uttarkashi, Tehri, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, Almora and Pauri.

•Thousands left homeless with no food, shelter, medical care and even livelihood.

•Landslides have damaged roads and bridges cutting off means to reach relief material to victims.

HELPAGE IS PROVIDING RELIEF TO ALL AFFECTED PERSONS

Reach: Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag & Chamoli Districts.

Relief operations started on June 21, 2013.

35 villages already covered.

Focus: Emergency Food rations, medicines, blankets, tarpaulin.

•So far 800 family food packages, 500 Blankets, 400 Tarpaulin have already been distributed.

•3000 more family packages being distributed - starting July 20.

•Beneficiaries identified through local partners: - Shri Bhuvaneshwari Mahila Ashram (Uttarkashi) working there for the last 30 years.- Appropriate Technology India – a group working on livelihood in Rudraprayag and Chamoli Districts since 1999.

•3 Mobile Medicare Units are continuing to provide emergency health services at Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag & Chamoli Districts.

•Relief teams are reaching on-foot, setting up roadside make-do camps where access is cut off.

•Many young volunteers are working with the HelpAge relief teams.

IMMEDIATE NEED

•No funds available to continue relief work after July 25.

•3800 families across 99 villages will be left without support.

•Weather will Worsen - Urgent help needed for the remaining monsoon onslaught.

•Immediate Donations required for the following emergency relief material:

•Food packets •Blankets •Tarpaulin•Solar Lights•Medical care
