Hello,ACMAFamily,Octoberisintheair,withcrispmornings,dramaticclouds,andafeelingofsettlinginhereoncampus.It’sfunformetowalkthehallsandseestudentsnewtoACMAconnectingwitheachotherandjoiningintothearts,academics,andactivitiesofcampuslife.Octoberisalsoabusymonthforus,withvisitsfromtheLondonSchubertEnsembleandatroupeofdancersfromChinahighlightingthisfirstweek,aslewofcollegevisitsduringlunches,andadanceforallstudentsonthelastFridayofthemonth.AddtothataFilmNight,ablooddrive,andfinalpreparationsforopeningnightofShakespeare’sAMidsummerNight’sDream(onNovember9th)andyouseeaschoolbubblingwithactivity.Inadditiontothemanybigevents,thisfallhasseenquietandpersistentattentiongiventokindness.GroupsofstudentshavefilledourhallwayswithKindnessBoards(liketheonepicturedtotheleft),posters,andgoodwishes.Thelovethesestudentshaveshownourschoolistrulyinspiring.Iwishyouallafantasticfall,

WednesdayUpdateAmonthintoEarlyReleaseWednesdaysandourstaffareenergizedtoworktogethertosupportstudentsuccess!DuringSeptember,wehadthreeEarlyReleaseteachercollaborationandprofessionaldevelopmentdaysandourACMAteachersusedthesetodiscussionlessonplanning,bestpractices,andstudentlearning.Theyworkedtogethertodevelopcommonassessments,lookatstudentwork,andcollaborateonlessons.Onethingwedidnotice,however,wasthatwithbothAccessandOhanaonWednesdayweallfeltrushedandthecommonconsensuswasthatstudentswouldbenefitfromlongerclassperiodsandfewertransitionswithintheschoolday.Tomakethishappen,ourstaffdiscussedthebenefitsofadjustingourscheduletoputAccessandOhanaonThursdays,whichwouldbothlengthentheclassperiodsonWednesdayandalsomorecloselyevenouttheminutesbetweentheAandBdaysofWednesdayandThursday.Afterlengthydiscussionanddeliberation,ourstaffagreedthatweshouldmakethischangeandtheresultingadjustmentmakesourschedulelooklikethis:

AllJuniorstudentsshouldplantotakethePSAT.WewillofferthetesthereatACMAonWednesdayOctober11.Thecostis$20andthedeadlineforregistrationisOctober5.Allstudentswillneedtobeseatedby7;30amonthe11th! OnOctober6studentswillpreregisterforthePSATat7:30amintheFoodCourt.Theyneedtobringthebooklettheywillreceivewhentheyregister.Don'tbelate--timeisrunningout!!RegisterNow!!

HighSchoolStudentsandFamilies,pleaseconsiderattendingBeavertonSchoolDistrict'supcomingcollegeplanninginformationnights.JuniorsandSeniorsareinvitedtoattendoneoftwosessionsonFAFSA(federalfinancialaid)andScholarshipsonOctober5th7:00pmatWestviewHighSchoolorOctober10th7:00pmatAlohaHighSchool.Bothsessionsarethesame,soattendtheoneclosesttoyou.Nextmonth,onNovember2ndat6:30pmatBeavertonHighSchool,allHighSchoolers9th-11thgradeareinvitedtoaninformativesessiononFindingAffordableColleges.It’sagreatopportunitytostartplanningnow,sowehopeyoucanattend!

ACMAOdds&EndsBeSafe!It’sarefrainwetellourstudentsandthehundredsofstudentswhoridebussesthatpassthroughthebacklothereatACMA.Forthosewhodon’tknow,everymorningatabout6:40amorethanadozenbussesdriveintoourfacultylotbehindthePACanddropoffstudents,sometocometoACMAandotherstotransferbussesandgotootherBSDschools.Theresultisanamazingdanceofyellowmetalandrollingwheels.ACMA’sadminteamistheretooverseethebusses,joinedbyotherstaffhiredtohelpourkidsstaysafe.Toensurethatstudentscannavigatethearea,weaskeveryone’shelpindroppingoffstudentsinfrontoftheschool,respectingtherulesnottodriveintothebacklotduringthedanceofthebusses,andencouragingallstudentstosticktothesidewalks.Weknowthatdropoffandpickupcanbestressfultimes,andweencouragekindnessandpatienceinallaswehelpourstudentsgettoandfromschooltogether.

Afinalnoteon10/31:Pleaseremindallstudentsthatwhilewealllovetodressup,anycostumeswornatschoolcan’tcoverstudents’facesandnofacsimileweapons.Sorrytoanyonewantingtocomeasaninja.
