Hello all!

We are very excited to share with you our new feature film for week 3 of Young Actors Camp 2015 - Soul Drought!

Soul Drought is a sci-fi/thriller/comedy that takes pieces from classic science fiction films, modern horrors, and absurd comedies. Take a sci-fi classic like Invasion of the Body Snatchers or the awful but awesome Plan 9 From Outer Space, mix it with any film written by M. Night Shyamalan, and combine it with the style of comedy from Moonrise Kingdom.

If you haven't seen any of these films, check them out (pending your parent's permission, of course). Especially check out Moonrise Kingdom. This film may not be similar to our film in terms of story, but the directing style, feel, dialogue, and the way the world is created is very similar to how we will shoot this. Notice how the comedy from Moonrise arises from high drama, high conflict. The believability of the characters sells the story, sells the comedy. How do the characters become so believable?

...ACTING!

Which brings me to my last point...acting, acting, acting!! That is what you are here to do at YAC! Last year, we were astounded by how far so many actors took their characters when we shot Further Instructions. This script caters to actors, 100%. There is a vast array of characters, a vast amount of dialogue, and a ton of action. The best part is that all of this can be bolstered and added on to. The more you bring it as an actor, the more options we have as filmmakers to make this movie as great and as fun as it can be.

So, as you read through the script, have fun with it! Begin to see which characters speak to you more than others. Read it out loud, play with ideas. Between now and when we film in July, some things will change, some things will get adjusted. But, we are extremely excited and can't wait to get this summer started so you are a part of creating this film as much as we are.

A YOUTUBE screen fills the frame. The play bar is at 0:00, and the wheel is loading...loading...loading, until...

EXT. OPEN FIELD- NIGHT

A CELL PHONE video guides us through a field. Voices WHISPER in Spanish. The light of the cellphone gives us only a small range of visibility. The camera moves forward with THREE FILMMAKERS.

Walking, walking, then the camera STOPS! In the distance we see a young FIELD GIRL facing away from us. Our cell phone camera moves closer. The Filmmakers continue to whisper in conversation.

They get closer. And closer. As they do, we hear the faint sound of electricity get louder. (all Filmmakers speak in Spanish, with subtitles)

FILMAKER 1Hey! Hey are you okay? (to each other) What is she doing?

FILMAKER 2I don’t know what she’s doing, she’s not even moving.

FILMAKER 3Let’s get out of here.

FILMAKER 2No, we’re almost there. (to girl) HEY!

The walk closer.

FILMAKER 2 (CONT’D)HEY!

FILMAKER 3Shh! Not too loud.

FILMAKER 1Shut up!

They jostle with each other as they get closer, but then they all STOP. They stand few feet behind the girl. Her clothes are fashionable, but dirty.

The trio whisper to each other as they step closer and closer.

FIELD GIRLSHH!!!

The Filmmakers FREEZE. The Field Girl slowly turns towards camera. Just before we see her face-

CUT TO:

INT. BRENT’S DORM ROOM - DAY

4 TEEN BOYS slam close a laptop; ALAN, BRENT, CHUCK, & DENNIS. They sit on the floor, frozen in fear.

BANG BANG BANG. All of their eyes go to the door. Then, around to each other

ALANGet it.

BRENTNo you get it.

CHUCKI’m not getting it.

DENNISNobody get it they will go away.

ALANWhat are you nuts?

BRENTNobody’s going away.

BANG BANG BANG.

ALANWho is it?

EMMA (O.S.)It’s Emma. What’s with all the questions?

BRENT(to Alan) Dude it’s Emma!

Brent punches Alan in the arm.

ALANOuch you idiot.

CHUCKYou’re the idiot, Emma is at the door and you’re making her wait!

A beat.

CHUCK (CONT’D)Go!

They all encourage Alan to get up, and he obliges. He walks by a mirror and fixes his hair.

DENNIS (O.S.)Wuss.

BRENT (O.S.)Baby.

ALANShut up!

Alan opens the door. SLOW MOTION as we reveal EMMA - Alan’s big crush. She whips her hair to clear it from her eyes as she is looking down at her phone.

Our SLOW MOTION ends as we cut to Alan, speechless. It doesn’t matter, as Emma is texting. And texting. And texting.

Alan looks back at his friends and shrugs.

CHUCK(loud whisper) What’s happening?

Alan mimes that she’s texting. His buddies understand.

DENNIS(loud whisper) You do it too!

Good idea. Alan whips out his phone and begins to pretend to text. With his head down he hears Emma clear her throat. He looks up and sees her staring at him with a big attitude. She now has three friends standing behind her; FRANNIE, GRETA, & HALANDIA.

EMMAUgh. So rude. Having my time wasted selfie!

She pulls up her phone and they all lean into frame - they’ve done this before. CLICK. Done.

EMMA (CONT’D)Are you ready now?

ALANUh, yeah, I was just, texting.

FRANNIETexting, while you were talking to Emma? So rude.

GRETASo rude.

HALANDIA(non-English language, always) So rude!

Alan’s friends hang their heads in embarassment.

ALANI, uh--

EMMADid you watch the video.

ALANYeah! It’s kinda weird.

BRENTTotally weird.

EMMAYou didn’t watch it all the way, did you?

Alan stutters on his words.

FRANNIEYou got scared by the girl.

GRETAYou are all a bunch of girls.

They all look at Halandia.

HALANDIA(with attitude) Yes.

All the girls nod.

CHUCKWe got interrupted. By you all.

EMMALikely story. Watch the rest of the video. Things are going crazy in all over the world. Nobody knows where this video is from. People think it may be something (whispers) supernatural. There are rumors all over the news. And, Halandia said that everything they’re saying, it isn’t good.

BRENTWhat kind of things were they saying?

FRANNIEBad things.

GRETAScary things.

HALANDIAThings you can’t even understand.

Alan gulps. Emma chuckles.

EMMAWatch the rest of the video.

FRANNIEYeah, watch it.

GRETAYeah.

They all look at Halandia.

HALANDIA (with sass) Yes.

EMMAThings are getting weird. All of the counselors are in an “emergency meeting” (beat). Except for Jimmy.

JIMMY sits on the couch watching TV with his back towards us. Mid 20s, not even paying attention

ALANThey let Jimmy be in charge of our floor? He’s the most irresponsible counselor at any camp, ever.

EMMAYup. And he’s in charge.. The rest of the counselors are having a meeting as we speak.

ALANWow. Something must be serious.

EMMAYeah. Keep an eye on Twitter. Hashtag red alert.

(MORE)

I don’t know what a red alert means but I hate the color red, so.

GRETAShe hates the color red.

EMMAWatch the rest of the video, then Snapchat me.

ALANOkay. (beat) Will you guys be at the dance?

EMMALikely.

ALL GIRLSPeace out!

They all throw up a peace sign and walk off. Alan closes the door. He walks over to his buddies who are waiting for a post game recap.

ALANShe told me to Snapchat her!

ALL BOYSYEAHHH!

They high five, give dap, and horseplay Alan down to the ground.

BRENTMy computer, my computer! Jeez, not everyone’s parents can buy them the newest Apple as soon as it comes out.

CHUCKYeah yeah, alright...let’s watch this.

They all congregate seated on the floor. Chuck in the middle, grabs the computer and sets it on his lap. They’re ready...and nothing happens.

DENNISOpen it you wuss!

CHUCKOkay okay!

He slowly opens it.

EMMA (CONT'D)

OVER BLACK

We are back to a full screen Youtbe video. The wheel spins, and spins, and spins, and spins, then:

EXT. OPEN FIELD - NIGHT

We start right where we left off, the girl facing the camera. She’s extremely tense and paranoid. She looks around with her eyes...then freezes.

FIELD GIRLSh!

In the distance behind the Field Girl, the Filmmakers notice some flickering light. The camera moves to the source and we see a very BRIEF glimpse of a METALLIC MONSTER, a large silver-y reflective blob of moving matter. It looks rather ridiculous. We see it for only a brief second as the video is PAUSED.

INT. BRENT’S DORM ROOM - CONTINUOUS

The four boys look at the computer screen very curiously.

ALANIs that the-

CHUCKWait a second. She--

DENNISI don’t know--

BRENTShut up! Press play! Keep watching!

Chuck hits PLAY.

EXT. OPEN FIELD - CONTINUOUS

The Metallic Monster flails around and to makes zapping and electrical noises. It’s random, a bit ominous, but kind of silly.

INT. BRENT’S DORM ROOM - CONTINUOUS

The boys don’t buy it. The video continues to play as they speak.

CHUCKThis looks like the most jankity prank I’ve ever seen.

DENNISDoesn’t that thing look just like those blankets they give people who drown? And old people at sports stadiums when they get cold?

ALANYou’re right! This is so riducul--

ALL BOYSAHHH!!!

A LOUD ELECTRICITY NOISE comes from the audio on the computer. The boys eye widen.

BRENTWhat the heck was that?

CHUCKDid it disappear?

DENNISNo no, that’s impossible.

CHUCKThen where is it?

ALANShh, shut up.

Alan points to the screen.

EXT. OPEN FIELD - CONTINUOUS

The young field girl turns around. She is very pale, and stares right at our filmmakers. (all still speak Spanish, with subtitles)

FILMAKER 1What’s she doing?

FILMAKER 2She’s looking right at us.

FILMAKER 3SHH!

They walk closer.

FILMAKER 3 (CONT’D)Excuse me, can we help you?

No response, they walk closer.

FILMAKER 1Hello, are you alright?

They move closer. She stares at them as if she’s examining. They move closer and closer - nothing.

FILMAKER 2Maybe we should leave her alone.

FILMAKER 1Hello??

The girl begins to FOAM at the mouth. Her face suddenly is overcome with rage and she SHOUTS and comes towards the camera. She swings her arm and KNOCKS the camera out of the Filmmaker’s hand. The camera drops to the ground and all we’re left with is a view of some blades of grass and loud screams that get further, and further, and further away...

A metallic glow and some waning electricity sounds and--

The video ends.

INT. BRENT’S DORM ROOM - CONTINUOUS

The four boys are frozen.

BRENTThat can’t be real.

CHUCKThat has to be real.

DENNISDon’t be an idiot, Brent is right. It’s gotta be a hoax.

Alan is rather quiet. They all look at him.

ALANThat’s the lamest piece of crap I’ve ever seen. That’s a hoax.

CHUCKHoax? Did you see that girl?

ALANDid you see that, silver monster-y thing? That looked like a lame costume from a school play.

BRENTHe’s right. We could even make that ourselves.

CHUCKMake that? This video has 32 million views in one day. Obviously this isn’t just some silly joke. That thing has to be real!

ALANWanna bet? Let’s get Isa in here.

CHUCKIsa? She’s the youngest person we know.

ALANYeah, she’s also the smartest person we know. Brent?

BRENT (texting sound) On it. (send noise) Done.

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK.

DENNISThat was quick.

Brent gets up to open the door. When he opens it, we don’t see anybody. The camera tilts down introducing ISA, tiny and adorable, but with the swagger of a pop star.

ISAWhat up Brent.

BRENTYo. Come on in.

ISAUm, rules?

BRENTRelax.

Brent points to counselor Jimmy, still in the same place doing the same thing.

BRENT (CONT’D)Everyone else is gone, they’re in some emergency meeting.

ISAIs it about that video?

BRENTYeah. I think so.

ISAWeird. I haven’t seen it yet.

BRENTWell...

He gestures her in. She enters a few steps but them turns around.

ISABoys room selfie!

Click. She walks in.

ISA (CONT’D)Breaking the rules, gotta take a selfie to prove it.

She goes over to the other boys.

ISA (CONT’D)Whatcha got?

CHUCKThat video, the metallic silver thing.

ISAI haven’t seen that video yet.

DENNISWhat? How could you have not seen it yet?

ISAWere you not just eavesdropping on Brent and I’s conversation?

DENNISOf course I was--I mean, no, but..should I-

ISADennis!

DENNISOkay, okay...

Dennis opens the computer, clicks play. He scrubs through and we begin to hear the video play. Isa takes a few seconds to watch. Her facial features think...then decide.

ISAFake. Nonsense.

She puts her phone up. Takes a selfie.

DENNISSeriously?

ISAHashtag hanging with the boys! I’ve got followers to please. (beat) Is that all you needed me for? All the girls are going nuts about this video, I can’t believe this is the crap people fall for these days.

DENNISI guess so.

CHUCKWhat? No! What was that thing? What is happening? Why isn’t anyone taking this seriously??

Click. They look at Isa, who is taking another selfie.

ISAHashtag Chuck’s meltdown selfie!

Click! Isa brings her hands to her head, shes in a bit of pain.

BRENTYou okay?

ISAYeah...just, headaches.

She shakes it off.

ISA (CONT’D)Listen, it’s a prank. I’m telling you. That thing just looks like those disposable heat blanket things that keep you warm.

DENNISThat’s exactly what I said!

ISAI’m sure.

Alan takes a moment.

ALANWhere do you get these, heat blanket things?

ISAI don’t know. Ambulances? The store? I’m sure there are a bunch in the earthquake kit.

BRENTEarthquake kit?

ISAUh, yeah Brent. You’re in California. Wake up. (to the rest) Earthquake kit. You can never be too prepared.

They don’t really get it.

ISA (CONT’D)Uh, hello? When it rocks, are you ready to roll?

Nothing.

ISA (CONT’D)You guys are impossible to have any type of intellectual conversation with. Are we done here? I have an article on sub-Saharan African trade agreements I want to finish.

Brent gestures her the way out with his hand. Isa walks...

ALANWait...

Isa turns around.

ALAN (CONT’D)You said there’s some of those blankets in the first aid kit?

ISAYeah, there should be.

ALANWell, if we can get a few of those...

Isa takes a moment to think.

BRENTYou okay?

ISAYeah...just headache.

She shakes it off.

ISA (CONT’D)Go on Alan.

ALANOkay. We get a few of those blankets.

Nobody picks up on it.

ALAN (CONT’D)Some tape.

BRENTI hope you’re not thinking what I hope you’re not thinking.

A long pause.

BRENT (CONT’D)I like it. Kind of like that movie The Village.

ALANKind of.

DENNISOh YEAH! That’s right. That’s when the guy dresses--

ISAShut up! I haven’t seen it yet.

DENNISYou’ve had like 10 years to see that movie.

ISAI’m only 10 years old!

DENNISExactly, you’ve had an entire lifetime!

ISAWell, it’s been a long decade. (to Alan) But wait, what happens?

BRENTNope, nope sorry. Guy talk time.

He begins to usher her out.

ISACome on guys, don’t leave me out--

ALANMy hands are tied. Sorry, Isa.

ISAUgh! Forget you guys. Brent just don’t do anything that’ll make them call mom.

BRENTWho’s gonna call mom, Jimmy?

Isa looks out at to Jimmy.

ISATrue. Whatever. Bye jerks

She trots out. Door closes. Beat.

DENNISDude, your sister is a cool!

CHUCKSo cool.

BRENTMy sister is 10.

DENNISYeah she is definitely a 10.

BRENTNo idiot she IS 10. Years old.

DENNISYeah, and I’m 12 years old. Guys can be older than girls to like them. My mom’s only 30, and my dad’s like...55.

That means when he was my age...when my dad was...my mom--

Alan puts his hand on Dennis’ shoulder.

ALANSorry dude. Brent, ask your sister to find out where an earthquake kit is.

Brent gives him skeptical eyes.

BRENTAre we really doing this?

CHUCKYeah, what if something happens? This video is a worldwide scare. What if, what if they think it’s real and we get shot?

ALANShot? Who’s gonna get shot? It’s a dance. We’re at a social media and marketing camp. The worst attack we’ll get will be under 140 characters. It will just be...a little prank.

Alan smiles. Brent and Chuck join him. A beat. Dennis, still counting on his fingers.

DENNIS(to himself)...minus 30 is 25, so when my dad was 25...and my grandpa’s only--

Alan puts his arm around Dennis for a selfie, and Chuck joins.

ALANDennis realizing his dad was 25 when his mom was born SELFIE!

Laughs. Dennis very confused. Click. Alan rubs his forehead in a bit of pain.

DENNIS (CONT'D)

EXT. DORMS - CONTINUOUS

Isa walks out of the dorm, down the stairs, and begins to walks across the grass. Sitting at a picnic table is PENELOPE, small and cute, reading a book. Isa ignores her.

PENELOPEHey Isa, what’s up?

Isa walks in a straight line.

PENELOPE (CONT’D)Isa, why is everyone acting so different today?

Isa gets to the stairway across the way at Dorm B. She goes up, she goes in.

INT. DORM B - CONTINUOUS

Isa knocks on a door. A beat, and then it opens. KIKI, a dark clothed bespectacled teen, pops her head out. She doesn’t see anyone. Isa loudly CLEARS HER THROAT. Kiki looks down.

KIKIOh, hey Isa. What’s up?

ISAI need a favor Kiki. I need a movie.

Kiki looks around.

KIKICome on in.

INT. KIKI’S ROOM - CONTINUOUS

Isa enters. It’s dimly lit, though the glow from computers/tablets light up the place pretty well. Typing on their computers are LULU, NINA, and MIMI.

ISAHey guys.

They all wave but keep their eyes on their screens. They’re patched in.

KIKIWhat’s up Isa?

ISAI need a movie. The Village.

LULUGreat movie.

NINAClassic movie.

MIMII thought it was terrible. The end where the girl--

ISANo no no! I want to see it. A little...research.

KIKIAlright. Well...Nina?

NINA(to Isa) Bed or Beanbag?

Isa is confused.

LULUBed. Or. Beanbag?

Lulu looks at the other girls, raises her hand, then snaps.

CUT TO:

INT. KIKI’S ROOM - MOMENTS LATER

Isa is laying on a beanbag.

ISAOh.

A bag of popcorn is thrown at her.

ISA (CONT’D)Ahh.

The the film projects light onto their faces.

ALL GIRLSOooooo!

DISSOLVE TO:

INT. KIKI’S ROOM - LATER

From behind we see all the girls watching the end of The Village. A costume clad Adrian Brody falls into a hole.

LULUGrim.

NINASo grim.

ISAUgh. What repercussions of lies and deceit. Plus a lack of responsibility of the elders due to the selfish result of their fears and shortcomings in a fairly reasonable and normal and organized society. Hmmm..

The girls skeptically stare at her. Isa gets an idea.

ISA (CONT’D)I got it. Thanks guys!

She runs out.

NINABut you’re gonna miss the big twist!

MIMIShe’s better off.

CUT TO:

EXT. DORMS - CONTINUOUS

Isa goes down stairs, across the green. Penelope still sits reading her book. Isa still ignores.

PENELOPEIsa why won’t you talk to me? Where are you going?

Isa moves straight ahead.

PENELOPE (CONT’D)Can I be involved please?

Nothing. Isa storms up the stairs, and back into the boys’ dorm.

INT. BRENT’S DORM ROOM HALLWAY - CONTINUOUS

Isa knocks on the boys’ door. She hears a ton of commotion.

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK. She tries again.

A hurried Brent opens the door just enough to pop his head out.

BRENTWhat?

Isa tries to go in. Brent stops her.

ISAWhy can’t I come in?

BRENTWe’re busy now.

ISABrent, let me--

BRENTIsa, no! This doesn’t concern you.

SLAM. Door shuts. Isa fumes. She opens up Snapchat and makes a very angry face. She types into a group tect: “EMERGENCY MEETING OF THE HATE BRENT CLUB. RONDA’S ROOM. 60 SECONDS”. Send.

EXT. DORMS - CONTINUOUS

Isa storms down the stairs, and across the green.

PENELOPE(dejected) Hi Isa.

This time Isa stops. Turns around.

ISAYou wanna help me with---

Penelope POPS UP.

PENELOPESure!

ISAFollow.

They walk across the green, up the stairs, and into the dorm.

INT. DORM B HALLWAY - CONTINUOUS

Isa walks up to the door with Penelope in tow. Isa makes sure nobody is looking, then does a secret knock. Penelope is a bit confused, but then the door opens. Isa slides in and Penelope follows.

INT. HATE BRENT CLUB - CONTINUOUS

A variety pack of preteen girls sit on the floor - RONDA, SKYLAR, TERESA, VANESSA, WANDA, YULIA. Isa sits. Penelope tries to sit in between two girls but they don’t budge. She its behind them.

Ronda, menacing but playful, commands the circle.

RONDAAlright Isa, whatchu got?

ISASo Brent and the boys--

SKYLARWhich boys? The regular crew?

TERESAIs Dennis there? Tell me Dennis is there.

ISAUh, yeah, Dennis is there. He’s creepy I think he likes me. Okay, here’s what--

TERESAYou wish he likes you. I think he likes me.

Isa raises her eyebrows.

ISAAnyway, I-

SKYLARIs Chuck there?

VANESSAYes! Chuck! I love the Chuck,

ISAGUYS! YES! CHUCK WAS THERE! And Alan and Brent and Dennis.

(MORE)

Look, this is time sensitive can we all focus here? Ronda come on, you usually have such a great hold on your meetings.

RONDAYou’re right, you’re right, I’m sorry. (violently) EVERYBODY SHUT UP AND LISTEN TO ISA OKAY?

Everyone is bit put off.

ISAOkay, okay, that’s fine thank you. (beat). Look, the boys are doing a prank. And I’m almost 100% sure it’s at the dance.

She pauses for dramatic effect.

ISA (CONT’D)They’re going to dress up like the metallic monster!

No reply.

ISA (CONT’D)From the video?

YULIAWhat video?

SKYLARThat Spanish video?

ISAYes! That one. It’s--

VANESSAWe’ve been working all day. We haven’t had time to watch any videos.

ISAWorking on what?

WANDAUh a small business, duh. Ronda’s idea. Each one of us contributes our own very special skill.

PENELOPECan I offer a skill?

ISA (CONT'D)

RONDAShut up Penelope, only real skills. Do you have any real skills?

PENELOPEUm-uh, well. I can tie really good knots?

The girls roll their eyes.

PENELOPE (CONT’D)I roast my own coffee beans from scratch, and I’ve been learning some Swedish every day.

YULIAShe means real skills. Life skills. Like...

Yulia holds up a phone, all the girls lean in.

YULIA (CONT’D)Photography (beat). Ronda’s room selfie!

Click! Yulia momentarily squints and shakes her head. Penelope notices this.

YULIA (CONT’D)Right. Sorry for interrupting. You were saying, Vanessa...

VANESSAYeah we’ve been working all day. No time for this Spanish video nonsense.

Isa takes a breath and looks at Ronda.

ISARonda, I think you should watch the video.

RONDAYou really think so?

ISAYes.

RONDAAlrighty then (to all girls). TIME TO WATCH THE VIDEO!

SMASH CUT TO:

INT. HATE BRENT CLUB - MOMENTS LATER

The girls sit all sit around the laptop watching the video. We only see the back of the laptop but still hear the audio. All eyes fixated onto the screen, the girls twirl their hair and whisper things. They begin to make grossed out faces when:

ALL GIRLSAHHHHHHHHHH!!

SMASH CUT TO:

INT. HATE BRENT CLUB - MOMENTS LATER

Back in the circle, all of the girls look freaked out.

VANESSAOh. My God.

TERESAWhat, was that?

SKYLARReally guys? That thing was so lame.

PENELOPEDid you guys listen--

ISAShh. Pipe it down. Anyway, that’s the thing everybody’s been so afraid of. My stupid brother and his stupid friends want to make a stupid fake metallic monster. You know, to scare everybody.

TERESAWhy would that scare anybody that looked like those blankets they gave Ronda that time she fell in the lake.

RONDAHey! No talking about that day. I was traumatized!

ISARight! That’s exactly it. There are a bunch of those blankets in the earthquake kits and the boys are going to try to scare us. So, I figure we do the same thing.

Nobody is getting it.

ISA (CONT’D)They scare everyone first, then it’s over and they laugh and put their guard down. Then, BAM! We scare them. They’ll never know what hit em!

RONDAIsa...I like it! We know it’s fake, but everybody else thinks it’s real.

ISAAs long as they do.

A smirk grows on both of their faces.

INT. BRENT’S DORM ROOM - CONTINUOUS

LOUD MUSIC blasts as the boys sloppily piece together their version of the monster.

INT. HATE BRENT CLUB - CONTINUOUS

Music gently sings as the girls do the same thing but with class and ease.

INTERCUT AS NECESSARY

A huge open room hosts the dance. A disco ball hangs and a DJ’s music plays. Only a large handful of bodies paste themselves awkwardly against the walls. A few dance. A big sign reads “2016 Youth Social Media & Marketing Camp Summer Soiree”.

By the punch bowl, 3 popular girls and 1 nerdy boy stand - ZELDA, ABBY, CASSIDY, & BUCK. They all hold red drink cups. Uncomfortable and awkward, they all sip to let the time pass by.

ZELDAGreat dance huh guys?

They shrug. Uninterested. The dance floor is practically empty.

ABBYI hope more people come.

ZELDAYeah. Stupid monster scare. I know parents and adults are having a fit over this, but I was so looking forward getting my Drake on tonight.

CASSIDYIt’s no scare, this is the real deal. It’s not like it’s just us kids talking about it. This is all overthe news. Why are all the counselors meeting and trying to devise an action plan? What do this whole video hoax actually is something serious?

ABBYThey should have just cancelled this whole thing. (beat) This is the worst dance ever I’ve ever been to. And I go to public school!

BUCKWhat? It’s just warming up! I’m ready to get loose.

Buck begins to dance. Awkwardly. Terribly.

She hands Buck her cup. He stops dancing and obliges. He walks over to the snack table.

Sarcastic “yes” faces. Buck shows Cassidy’s empty cup.

BUCK (CONT’D)Fillin’ up Cassidy’s cup. She’s ma babe.

DEVCassidy is not your babe. We’ve been in camp for 6 days now, and she’s already publicly tweeted that she’s liked 4 different boys.

BUCKYeah, well, I’m the most recent. So, bite me Dev. (beat, looks at Harry) Harry, cheers!

BUCKI uh. These guys were distracting me. Harry an-- Zelda said.

They all laugh at Buck. He’s noticeably embarrassed.

Big pause. Cassidy walks over to Buck and grabs him by the shirt.

He attempts a wink and walks back over to the beverage table.

They all shake their heads.

Cassidy turns away. Dev, Ellis, Felicia, Gilly, and Harry retreat. They all pause to look at Buck in the distance filling up the drink. Buck sees them, gives them a thumbs up, nods and tries to be cool. He goes to squeeze a lime into the drink and squirts himself in the eye. It causes him to stumble into the table and almost knock the whole thing down. He settles himself, but is still frazzled.

GILLYWhat does she see in him?

They begin to walk off frame. As they do, Harry nudges Dev for him to notice:

PRESIDENTEhem. Excuse me everybody can I have your attention please?

PRESIDENT (CONT’D)Um..hello?

VP(to president) just start!

PRESIDENTOkay then. Everybody welcome! We’re still waiting on everyone to arrive, I know it’s been an...interesting day.

The VP runs to the mic.

VPBut...we’re just getting started! Make sure you check out the snack table. Some delicious snacks over there. We have our very own camper, DJ DJ in the house let’s hear it for her!

DJ DJ stand behind her computer, waves to the crowd. Into her microphone:

SECRETARYNo! No! You can’t shut me up! This is serious, this is no joke.

PRESIDENT(on the mic) This is all a joke. Ha ha!

Ronda brings her outside the dance hall and we can still hear her lingering shouts.

PRESIDENTOkay then. I’m sorry everybody, some of us just can’t handle the internet. Now--

FELICIAHey!

Everyone turns their head towards Felicia. She’s looking down at her phone.

FELICIA (CONT’D)There IS a new video up!

An enormous GASP amongst all the students.

The camp council is in a huddle away from the microphone. Jimmy just stands there.

PRESIDENTWhere’s the tech squad? Tech squad?

TECHIE 1 (O.C.)Over here!

TECHIE 1 stands beside the DJ. She types into her fancy watch. TECHIE 2 stands on the other side of the DJ and receives the message from Techie 1. They send each other some messages as others look on confused.

The VP clears her throat into the mic.

TECHIE 2Woah! How about some patience?

Everybody waits, but not patiently at all.

We see the Techies continue to beep and boop their watches. They simultaneously point their watches to the opposite wall and we see:

A PROJECTION of a black Youtube screen ready to be played. “Oooooo”s ring throughout the dance hall.

DJ DJLet’s give it up for the tech crew!

Everyone applauds.

SECRETARY (O.S.)What? This is a serious matter.

The battered Secretary is back up on the mic.

SECRETARY (CONT’D)We all should be running and hiding, I’m getting word that--

DJ DJ plays music over her voice.

DJ DJAlright, you guys ready to watch this video?

Cheers from all around. People are enthused.

The Secretary begins to panic.

SECRETARY(shouting) What? How can you guys be goofing like this is some kind of joke?

DJ DJHit it Techies!

The Techies beep boop their watch and the video plays.

We hear only the audio as we see the crowd’s reaction. They gasp, ooo, ahh, laugh as if they’re at the movies.

The Secretary is pacing back and forth,.

SECRETARYFine! You want to take this lightly? I’m outta here.

As she storms out, we see the projection of the video and we go FULLSCEEN:

EXT. PARKING LOT - NIGHT

A still cell phone camera looks out onto an empty parking lot. A few cars are scattered about. Behind that are train tracks. Our three Filmmakers come out from behind the camera. Still speaking Spanish with subtitles.

FILMAKER 1Okay. So earlier we--

FILMAKER 2He, ran. We tried to get the camera back-

FILMAKER 3But we had to run. There was lightening and electrity--

FILMAKER 1And that girl.

They all go silent. Suddenly they begin to argue in Spanish. Loud, fast. They point fingers, and begin to physically act certain things out. The yelling comes to a crescendo and then they all just stop. They look back to the camera.

FILMAKER 2We’ll do what we have to do.

FILMAKER 1 (to Filmmaker 3) Let’s add the rest of the footage of--

FILMAKER 3No. No way. (to camera) We didn’t think this would get so many views or people would actually care. But, evidently this is something big and important. So...

FILMAKER 1We’ll try to get to the bottom of this.

FILMAKER 2If we can.

A train horn sounds in the distance. The three look back.

FILMAKER 1We gotta get moving.

FILMAKER 2Okay.

They all look back at the camera.

FILMAKER 2 (CONT’D)Godspeed.

Filmmaker 1 and 2 walk off. Filmmaker 3 goes towards the camera and accidentally knocks over the tripod. When the camera finally lands, we get a rotated image of the Field Girl from earlier - tied and bound, blindfolded, and doing her best to wiggle an escape.

Black.

INT. DORM C - CONTINUOUS

The same black screen on a laptop. The laptop sits in the middle of a large group of kids.

Their faces are all in shock.

Around them the furniture is strategically places by the exits.

The computer sits in the lap of their tech pro, SEVILLA. She closes the computer. They all remain silent. NELLIE is jittery and nervous.

NELLIEThat’s it? It says part two, look for a part three!

SEVILLAThere is no part three, it would have shown up.

NELLIEYeah well, did you look? I don’t like the sound of--

MARY, the motherliest teenager, places her hand on Nellie’s.

MARYEverything’s going to be fine. We’re all going to be fine.

NELLIEYeah? How do you know?!

They all look at the LEADER; confident, patient.

LEADERBecause we have safety. We have each other. And together, we will survive anything.

Her right hand girl, LISA, looks over towards the door.

LISAHey Billy, what’s it lookin’ like out there?

BILLY the lookout peers through the glass.

BILLYAin’t nothin’ wrong over here. How about you Barbie, anything over there?

BARBIE sits in a chair, fast asleep.

BILLY (CONT’D)Barbie....? BARBIE!

Barbie doesn’t move.

Barbie SNAPS to the ready.

She casually nods and looks out the window.

Lisa shakes her head.

LEADERAlright, well this sounds like a good time to refresh. Everybody get to your posts.

Everybody takes an extended second.

LISACome on people, gotta stay sharp and focused.

Everyone silently agrees, gets up and scatterers to their positions. The Leader and Lisa stand and pause for a moment for everyone to settle.

LEADER(whispers to Lisa) Where’s our secretary?

LISAGARFIELD!

GARFIELD, the diminutive secretary, jumps into place.

GARFIELDSorry. I’m here.

Garfield pulls out a notebook and a pen.

GARFIELD (CONT’D)Ready.

The trio walks over towards the kitchen area, following the Leader.

LISAAlright. What do we have here?

CHEF 1 and CHEF 2 are chopping produce and making sandwiches. They move very entertainingly about the kitchen, almost as if they’ve practiced this before.

CHEF 1Well the two most important things are sustainability and consumption.

CHEF 2Sustainability and consumption? Aren’t those two different and possibly oppositional things?

CHEF 1Why yes! But let’s look closer. Staring with the latter,

CHEF 2Consumption.

CHEF 1Means that we must consume what will quickly go bad.

CHEF 2Fruits, vegetables, grains. Things we must eat quickly, but that can be easily replaced.

CHEF 1In the event of any catastrophe, produce is the first to go. As well as grains, meat, poultry, things like that.

CHEF 2And that gets us to the sustainability.

CHEF 1In the now very plausible case where an apocalyptic scenario arises, we much be able to sustain our meals over time.

CHEF 2That’s when we fall in to the crap category.

CHEF 1Crap category? That doesn’t sound appetizing?

CHEF 2Well, that’s why we have our master chef with us.

MASTER CHEF rises up from behind the counter. She has a plate full of food.

MASTER CHEFCrap category. Not all non-perishables are canned beans, canned soup. A lot of what will be left in this terribly dieted country is the crap we eat now; cookies, candy, snacks, chips.

Master Chef places the plate on the table.

MASTER CHEF (CONT’D)What we have here is a Thai style peanut butter protein bar loaf, topped with a Funyun and Sriracha crust.

CHEF 1Condiments will make a huge comeback in the apocalypse.

MASTER CHEFOn the side we do have our plain canned string beans. And of course for dessert, a packaged Twinkie.

Chef 1 delicately places a packaged Twinkie with a ribbon on top, right down onto the plate.

CHEF 1As is, of course. We have to retain our culture.

MASTER CHEFAnd to finish off we have our Fruit Roll up infused remoulade.

Chef 2 takes a nice scoopful of the remoulade and artistically places it next to the loaf.

CHEF 2Don’t knock it til ya try it.

Lisa and the Leader nod at each other very impressed.

GARFIELD(as she’s writing it) Some deep head nodding. Looks like a success.

Everyone in the background claps.

LEADERVery nice all of you, very nice. Preparing us for any scenario, I like it. What’s next?

The Leader and crew move on to the next station.

LISAWeapons.

WALLY and WENDY, two tough looking kids, sit down in front of a pile of things.

WENDYWe ain’t gonna sugar coat it for you or do a fancy show. There are three categories. Eaters, electrics, ETs.

Commotion amongst the crowd.

GARFIELD(writing notes) commotion caused.

LISARelax, relax, this is all just hypothetical. (to Wendy) Continue.

WENDYAlright. So we have eaters; vampires, zombies, things that will end you with their bite. If you look at Wally over here you’ll see how easy it is to defend. Wally?

Wally grabs an arm sleeve.

WALLYWhat we have here is a simple blockade. Classic zombie defense. Magazine, tape.

WENDYIf you’re out of tape you can use a torn piece of clothes.

Wally becomes very animated when he talks.

WALLYCorrect. So all you gotta to is BLOCK those things in the mouth. Strong defense.

SALLY, the skeptic of the bunch, raises her hand.

SALLYUm, I thought you guys were weapons specialists? What am I supposed to do after I defend them?

WALLYUh, stab them? Duh, everybody knows that.

A slight gasp amongst the crowd.

LISARelax, people relax. We’re only speaking in hypotheticals.

WENDYRight. Hypotheticals. Hypothetically, if anything comes at you that wants to eat you, you stab it. Only in an apocalypse, though.

SALLYOh yeah weapons specialist, stab it with what? Idiot.

WENDYSomething sharp. Look, some of us will be prepared and survive and some of us won’t. Just know that if this is really the beginning of the end, saying words like “idiot” can’t be used as weapons anymore.

The crowd laughs. Sally sulks.

WENDY (CONT’D)Next, we have electrics.

Wally puts on a raincoat and galoshes.

WALLYWhat we have here is your classic rubber raincoat and rubber boots. May not save you from every type of electric or laser or futuristic shock, but it’ll help.

WENDYThank you Wally. Last but not least, ETs.

WALLYExtra terrestrials.

WENDYAs long as we’ve been working with weapons, this is a huge unknown.

WALLYSo, we’ve devised a very intricate plan.

Wally goes behind the chair to grab it, and everyone’s anticipation rises. He comes up with a stick.

SALLYA stick?

WALLYYeah, a stick. When all else fails, you hit ‘em with a stick.

Everybody nods and understands in approval.

WALLY (CONT’D)So, as you can see, I’m fully equipped with my arm defense, my rubber suit, and my stick.

SALLYWhat about something sharp?

Wally flips his stick upside down; it’s been carved to a sharp point. Everyone claps.

WENDYSticks are a heck of a tool in the apocalypse. We’ve set up some gear in the room down the hall, in case we need it. So far, we don’t have everything for everybody, but we’re working on it.

WALLYIf it does make you feel better, our security team is...sort of prepared.

SECURITY GUARD 1 raises her stick.

SECURITY GUARD 1I have a stick. And arm guards. And, rubber soles to my shoes. I’ll make sure none of you will even need any of that.

SECURITY GUARD 2 holds up 2 sticks.

She looks at Barbie nodding off in her lookout chair.

The leader nods as Garfield annotates.

She stands up, and like a game show model presents all the items.

LESLIEWe have everything covered. Lack of water, lack of electricity, lack of food. All of these items here are handmade, by yours truly. Everything is just a simple item used in a creative way. In the event of a...ya know...I’m going to need some assistance in finding supplies. So, please don’t be afraid to come by, check these things out, and learn some tools of the trade.

A light applause by the crowd.

LEADERShe is correct. We want to be prepared. And, don’t be alarmed, but this may not be so minor. What’s the new word, Sevilla?

Sevilla is typing on her computer, scrolling through her tablet, headphones in one ear - she seems very on top of it all. She speaks without looking away from her work.

SEVILLAWell, news sources say that many cities around the globe are in a state of emergency. Checking out the bloghosphere...it says here that there have been reports of similar incidents like that in the video coming out of New York, Tokyo, Mexico City, Tehran, London, Glasgow. Unfortunately, there seems to be no more video footage of anything.

SALLYHm.. Sounds like a bunch of bologna to me.

Wendy jumps to the ready.

WENDYBologna, WHERE?!

Everyone stares at Wendy. She’s embarrassed.

SECURITY GUARD 2(to Wendy) You’re supposed to be looking out.

They begin to bicker and argue. Very immediately the Leader walks over.

LEADERHEY!

Everybody shuts up.

LEADER (CONT’D)No complaining. No pointing fingers. No looking backwards. Problem solving only. (to everyone) We all get to our posts. This is not a drill anymore, this is real life! (to Wendy) Now, how do we handle this?

Wendy, intimidated.

WENDYUm.

She looks out.

WENDY (CONT’D)I see someone. I see...I forgot the kid’s name. She’s on the camp council.

LEADERAlright. Good.

She pauses. She’s not playing any games. Security guard 2 jumps into action.

SECURITY GUARD 2Right. This is a code green?

SECURITY GUARD 1Code green! Copy that!

The whole room sets up at their stations.

SECURITY GUARD 2We ready mam?

Leader nods her head. Security guard 2 opens the door and the Camp Council Secretary barges in.

SECRETARYOh man, you guys are never going to believe this! Everybody at the dance is--

She awkwardly puts her finger on the closed mouth of Secretary.

LEADER (CONT’D)Arms out. (to Security Guard 2) Frisk her.

Security guard 2 obliges.

She shuts up.

LEADER (CONT’D)Why did you come here?

SECRETARYWell...I...I’m the secretary of both the Camp Council and my school’s student council. I think I’m really good at keeping records and organizing.

Garfield begins to write those notes but then stops. She gives the Secretary a death stare.

Kids dance raucously to R.E.M.’s “It’s the end of the world...”

The kids create a circle and several students show their moves in the middle.

Brent looks down the hallway towards the dance. He moves back to his group and we see Alan, Chuck, and in a big silver messy mylar blanket mmonster costume, Dennis. All speak in loud whispers.

DENNISAre we almost there?

ALANShh!! Shut up Dennis you’ll ruin it.

DENNISBut it’s getting hot in here!

ALANIt’s supposed to, they’re called heat blankets!

Brent runs down the hall and peeks into the dance.

The tough looking Modigliani sisters, SAMMI and NIKKI, stand emotionless against a wall.

BRENT (CONT’D)Psst! Pssssst! Sammi, Nikki!

No response.

BRENT (CONT’D)Yo! Modigliani sisters!

They look at him for a beat, and then look away.

Brent sighs. He goes in his wallet and take out any cash he has.

BRENT (CONT’D)Psst!

They look again as he dangles the money. He smiles. They smile.

EXT. DANCE HALL - MOMENTS LATER

The Modigliani sisters stand against the wall with Brent’s crew. They speak in thick New York accents.

SAMMISo you need a door job. You need people to disperse.

Brent and his crew look at each other with confusion.

Alan and Brent look at each other. Brent shrugs.

Alan is reluctant, but pulls out the other 20 and hands it to the Modiglianis.

Brent laughs it off.

DENNISHey! You don’t get to go to the movies with his sister!

Brent peeks out and decides to move.

The Modiglianis hold Brent where he is.

SAMMINot yet. We’ll tell you when.

The boys are skeptical but follow their lead. The sisters look at each other, nod, and we follow them down the hallway and into:

INT. DANCE HALL - CONTINUOUS

People are still dancing, DJ DJ is still spinning. The Modiglianis look around for a plan. They catch each other’s eyes and nod. Sammi opens the door and stays there, and Nikki goes over to the snack table. Buck is stacking a plate full of cookies. Nikki KNOCKS him onto the end of the table. The table collapses and Buck is stuck on the pile of mess.

Everybody points and laughs. The DJ’s record screeches to a halt.

DJ DJ(on the mic) Woah! Looks like little Buck had trouble pulling an Oreo apart.

Everybody laughs. TECH 1 and TECH 2 come over and position for a selfie with their selfie sticks, phones, and watches.

A circle of commotion around the arguing girls. Brent, Alan, and Chuck walk up to the crowd

Everybody looks at SCREAMER as she points up towards the fake monster. Everybody SCREAMS and scatters. Kids hide under tables, running in circles.

SCREAMEREven the president doesn’t know what to do! AHH!!

Everybody runs and screams and runs and screams and...nothing really happens. Everyone slows down.

Some people pop their heads up in curiosity. The monster is flailing and begins to look a bit awkward. It gets very silent. Dennis freezes inside the costume.

DENNISROAAARRRR!!!!

Everybody looks at the monster confused. Chuck slaps his head.

CHUCKNot the roar, I told him not to do the roar!

Alan and Brent shake their heads.

Everyone in the room quickly loses all fear and walks towards the monster.

Alan and Brent improvise.

ALANOh no! Look out!

BRENTAhhh. Ahhh this is sooo scary.

Nobody buys it. A TROUBLEMAKER walks right up to the monster/Dennis.

TROUBLEMAKERThis ain’t so scary!

She paces around and looks the monster up and down. She notices a tiny flap undone.

She walks over, puts her finger in the flap and RIP! Pulls the entire thing apart. Dennis is revealed and everyone gasps.

The Screamer runs up to Dennis and starts to slap him playfully.

SCREAMERYou’re such a Jerk, you know that?!

Troublemaker comes up with her camera.

TROUBLEMAKERMetallic monster prank fail selfie!

Kids lean in. Click! Troublemaker briefly winces her eyes. Brent and the boys begin to laugh. Everyone seems to get over it quickly...and join in with the laughter.

Isa peers on. She looks down the hall and gives a thumbs up.

Brent and Alan are laughing as they reenact the scare moment.

A BIG METALLIC MONSTER sidles up besides Brent.

Brent looks up to see an exact replica of the monster from the video.

Dennis walks by with a plate full of desserts.

They look at each other. They look at the monster. Dennis, Brent, and Screamer all point and scream and chaos ensues!

Kids run and scream. This time, the monster moves, chases Brent.

BZZZZ!! Bolting electricity SHOOTS through Troublemaker. She sizzles and zaps as everyone looks on with illuminated faces. It STOPS. Her face is PALE and MOUTH FOAMS; just like the girl in the video. Sweaty, a bit dusty. She just stands there. Cassidy walks up.

CASSIDYUm...wierdo? Are you alright?

Troublemaker slowly turns her head towards Cassidy.

HARRYWait...paler face, foamier mouth...CASSIDY WATCH OUT!

Troublemaker DIVES towards Cassidy and takes her down, sharing the same electric shock waves upon contact.

Everyone looks on in shock and terror. Buck runs up to Cassidy.

She looks up at him as raged as ever. A JOKESTER begins the run.

They make a run for it in slow motion. People getting zapped all over. Some from the monster, some from their already zapped peers.

They all run over to her computer. They watch in shock and horror.

Everyone hops up to their posts. Sevilla, Lisa, Leader, Garfield, and Secretary stay by the computer and continue to watch the video.

Total chaos on screen. Suddenly, the camera goes wild and lands on the floor - the lens gets covered. We can still hear screams and the sounds of the electricity.

The feed ends.

Everyone pauses and looks around. All eyes land on Leader.

Weapons hand out what they have.

They all pause, but they hear footsteps continuing. Leslie looks right and there’s a ZAPPED Halandia coming towards them.

The Zapped Halandia makes a direct line towards Security Guard 2 and ignores the rest. Wendy WHACKS the Zapped Halandia with her stick. WHACK! WHACK! WHACK!

Halandia falls and doesn’t move.

WENDYGotta do what you gotta do right?

All still in shock, but nod in agreement as Wendy leads the sprint up the stairs. The door to the dorm is open and they all slip in.

INT. DORM B - CONTINUOUS

The door closes behind them. They all huff and puff for air in the dimly lit common area.

LISAEverybody alright? Let’s count off.

They count 1-6. All there.

A beat, and then they hear A DOOR CREEK OPEN. Steps. Steps. Steps. The gang of 6 get into position. Wendy holds up her weapons. They sneak closer as the LIGHT TURNS ON and startles them all. It’s only Kiki.

Modern day. A rough and weathered SCIENTIST sits on a table facing camera. He wears an open labcoat and reads from a table of messy notes and papers. Empty snacks and soda bottles line the room.

SCIENTISTAlrighty then. The date today is May 1st, 2016. What you just saw right there was a video from 1962. It was a proposed public service announcement made by the Department of House and Human Services regarding the issue number 204-963-Alpha-Roger-62-1800-BBC-BBC-BBC-BBC-2 - The Soul Drought. What we thought was only a hypothetical health concern back then, we’re realizing it’s much much more now.

He points to a chart on a dry erase board.

SCIENTIST (CONT’D)It’s a known scientific fact that a photo captures someone soul. Figuratively, and literally. Though, not at any noticeable rate.

He walks towards another table full of cameras. The signal skips a bit and the video sporadically fuzzy.

SCIENTIST (CONT’D)And now we have these modern cellphone cameras, with practically unlimited storage. Not only are you slowly chipping away at your own soul, but you’re creating a collection and database, of all those pieces and all those souls on all the hard drives and clouds in all the world.

He holds up a file.

SCIENTIST (CONT’D)This folder contains the documents warning us of a galactic soul drought. This was discovered in about in 1960. What’s a soul drought you ask? Easy. There aren’t enough souls to go around in the universe. In our universe, there are beings highly superior to us.

- Jokester and Screamer run away from Zapped people. Screamer screams, and gets blindisded by a bolt of electricity. She’s toast.

- Zelda is live streaming her running. She turns the camera on herself and ZAP!! Fried.

The crew sneak through a well lit parking lot. A TRAIN HORN sounds.

They all look down for a moment to think. In the background, we see Security Guard 1 taking selfies with the Field Girl.

SEVILLAWell...if the soul get’s captured onto the phone...then maybe...

She walks over to Security Guard 1.

SEVILLA (CONT’D)Give me your phone.

SECURITY GUARD 1What?

LEADERGive it over.

Reluctantly, Security Guard 1 gives her the phone.

SEVILLANow stand close to her.

SECURITY GUARD 1Ew! No, she’s freaky.

LEADERCloser!

Security Guard 1 leans in close to the Field Girl. Field Girl reaches and groans in the direction of Security Guard 1.

Penelope steps forward towards the Field Girl.

BUCKPenelope, what are you doing?

PENELOPEShh! I’m okay, I’ll be fine.

Buck’s confused.

LISALook.

Penelope stands right over the Field Girl, who pays her no mind - all she wants is Security Guard 1.

LISA (CONT’D)Penelope reads books. She loves to research. She doesn’t take selfies.

SECURITY GUARD 1Wait...then what does that say about me?

Sevilla holds up the phone, and launches it at the wall. It flies in slow motion

SECURITY GUARD 1 (CONT’D)NOOOO!!!!!

Everyone watches phone fly across the room. It hits the wall and SMASHES into pieces. An ELECTRIC BUZZ simmers in the phone after landing.

PENELOPEIt’s called dispersion.

Everyone looks at her.

PENELOPE (CONT’D)When the soul gets collected, it’s ready for the taking. The only way to unlock that soul is to destroy the external database.

SECRETARYYou knew all this and chose not to share?

Penelope shrugs.

PENELOPENobody ever wants my opinion on anything. I’ve been researching theories from around the world all day long. One of them was bound to be true.

Isa walks up to Penelope.

ISAGreat job Penelope. Thanks.

Everyone adds in their thanks as well.

SECRETARYSo now what?

Everybody looks at Penelope for the next step. She looks at Lisa. Lisa looks at Leader. Leader looks at Sevilla. Sevilla looks at Security guard 1

SECURITY GUARD 1What?

SEVILLAUntie her.

SECURITY GUARD 1What?!

LEADERUntie!

SECURITY GUARD 1Ugh, fine!

Everybody begins to back up.

SECURITY GUARD 1 (CONT’D)Oh, great.

Security guard 1 nervously unties the Field Girl. She rises, and they both stand face to face. The Field Girl takes a moment, then looks away.

A collective sigh of relief...until the Field Girl turns her head towards Isa. She makes a run at her but then BAM! Phone to the head. Brent stands tall. He looks at Penelope. She takes out her phone and tosses it. SMASH!

One by one, everybody smashes their phone, in SLOW MOTION.

CUE CLASSICAL MUSIC

BEGIN MONTAGE

INT. DORM B - CONTINUOUS

- Cell phones crashing

- Sevilla smashes her tablet.

FILMAKER 1 (V.O.)We figured it out. It was a simple concept, but an enormous task at hand.

- Kids weaponing up

- Kids eating as they gear up.

- Kids putting rubber raincoats and boots on.

- Doors opening. Teams running out.

EXT. DORMS - CONTINUOUS

- Tussles and battles with the soulless on the way to the other dorms.

INT. DANCE HALL

- They try to find survivors in the dance hall.

- Survivors appear. They grab and smash their phones.

FILMAKER 1 (V.O.)We had to bust every piece of personal technology. Phones. Cameras. Tablets. We had to start all over.

EXT. CAMPUS

- The Foodies hand out food.

- Exhausted and dusty kids eat snacks.

- Metallic monster looking erratic, wobbly. Sporadic electric bursts, and then it falls over.

FILMAKER 1 (V.O.)It got weaker, as we got stronger.

- The 3 Filmmakers document it’s every step of the way

- A tall broadcast tower

- Sevilla, Leader, and Techie 2 patch into a fancy control board.

- The Doomsday Preppers are up and running just as they practiced.

- Kids walk side by side with soulless.

- People mull about and cohabited with the soulless.
