HELLO AGAIN !!!..HELLO AGAIN !!!..
And...
How are you ?
I forgot...
Oh ! But that's right !...
When someone asks « How are you ? »...
What can we answer !?!...
Well, of course...
It depends !!...
For example...
Let's say you feel just like this...
Then maybe you can say something like...
I'm fine !...
Or you could be even more polite, and say something
like...
I'm fine thank you !...
Or let's say you feel just like this...
Then maybe you can say something like...
I FEEL GREAT !...
But of course...
There are many other expressions you can
use !...
For example, you could say...
I'M VERY GOOD THANK YOU !...
… And say something like...
Or you could be even more original !...
I feel...
TERRIFIC !...
Or...
I'M FANTASTIC !!...
But if you feel really good....
If you REALLY feel good...
And by that I mean...
And say...
Then maybe you could use the strongest expression of all...
I'M PERFECT !...
In other words...
It just depends on how you feel !...
And by the way...
Here's an « emotional barometer » that should help you to find just the right expression to describe how you feel !
So let's just open the document titled « Greeting feelings »...
So, this being said...
Good ! So now, you know how to do greetings !...
And now, what about trying that out ?
And go through the first dialogue !
So let's just open the document called « Greetings »...
EXCELLENT !...
So...
It now looks like you can say at least a couple of things in English !...
And not only that...
But it actually looks like you now know how to deal with
the 2 very most basic situations to deal with when
learning any language, namely introducing yourself, and exchanging greetings !...
So...
THUMBS UP !...
And now that you know just what to say, in at
least a couple of situations...
What about learning how to say it properly ?
So...
Let's now look at what is probably the most basic thing to learn in order to
speak in a way that actually sounds English !...
It's something called « STRESS »...
But have « no stress » !...
Because there's really nothing « stressing » about it !..
Since what we're actually talking about here...
Is rather called « WORD STRESS » !...
Now, what is it ?
Good question !..
How about starting with some examples ?
So let's just try to pronounce this word with a good
« quebecois » accent...
Toaster
And now, let's just try to pronounce it with a very good
English accent...
Toaster
Do you notice any difference ?
Now let's see if this also applies to other interesting
words !...ButterPancakesBaconSausageOrange juice
Amazing !
So according to you, on what syllable does word
stress usually fall, in English ?
Good answer !
But now, what about these other words ?
PotatoesTomatoesBananas
Ok, so maybe the rule isn't 100 % reliable...
But if it works 90 % of the time, it's not that bad after
all, isn't it ?...
And since you just acquired a notion that is likely to improve
your English pronunciation by at least 100 %...
Why not to give it some practice ?
And to that end, let's just open the document titled « Word stress »... And that's it !...
GREAT JOB !...
Now, all this being said...
Do you notice anything else that sounds rather special about the way I
speak ?
And more precisely...
Do you notice any difference between
saying...
and...
how are you
So what's the difference ?
Well, of course, there's much more...
EMOTION !...
But beyond that...
Don't you notice any pattern in the
pronunciation of the following expressions ?
I'm fine !I'm fine thank you !
I'm very good thank you !I feel great !...
I'm terrific !
That's right !
There's even a name for such a pattern in the
English language !
And you know what ?
It's called...
The rise-fall INTONATION pattern !...
And guess what ?
It actually works for almost ANY English
sentence !...
Now let's check this rule by trying it on different
sentences...
I've discovered something amazing !...
That's just great !I'm speaking English !
This is the intonation pattern. It sounds just like when
people sing songs...
It even works for questions ! (Or at least
for some of them...)
And believe it or not...
And here's the proof !
HOW ARE YOU ?How was it in the Navy ?
What are you talking about ?So, what did you do last night
?
And now...
Just so as to see how expressive the English language can be, let's watch at least one of
these two great videos!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-yLGIH7W9Y
And...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbovd-e-hRg
And now, how would that sound if we tried all this on the expressions we just learned together
?
GREAT !...
I'm fine !...
I FEEL GREAT !...
I'M VERY GOOD THANK YOU !...
I'M TERRIFIC !...
GOOD JOB !...
And by the way...
Just in case you would still want to learn a few more
