It’s wonderful to see some sunshine at last, after those wet, cold dreary days. The enthusiasm has rubbed off on

students; the yard is a hive of activity. The Ashes series may be an influencing factor, but the cricket nets are full of

budding cricketers. The Years 3 and 4 students have a cricket day at Donath Reserve coming up too. The soccer is still

a highlight and tennis (Hot Shots) is gaining in popularity.

Soon the senior students will be preparing for summer sports – rounders, bat tennis and cricket.

PIT Gymnastics has finished for senior students, and what a great time they’ve had – learning some skills for strength,

flexibility and balance. The junior classes have one more session next week.

REMINDER!! Student learning is our prime focus at school. Teachers work extremely hard to provide the very best teaching for your children. We are very concerned at the increase in interruptions to children’s learning time, therefore we would like to establish some valuable guidelines. This is for the benefit of your child, all other students and teachers. Education Department guidelines state that approved absences fall into the following categories:

medical and dental appointments where out of hours appointments are not possible

bereavement or attendance at the funeral of a relative or friend of the student,

cultural observances if the parents notify the school in advance

family holidays, where the parent notifies the school in advance

Most likely, only the first category may involve partial attendance on a given day. If your child has a legitimate appointment (for example medical or dental), it would be helpful to notify the school in advance.

Children will only be released from class at 11.00am or 1.45pm; if your child needs to leave school for an appointment please ensure that they are picked up only at these times. This procedure will be strictly adhered to. If you call to collect a child at any other time of the day, you will be asked to wait or return at the appropriate time. Unless it is an extreme emergency, children can only be picked up from school during these times. Thank you for your cooperation. Helen Miller ‘Birthday Greetings’ to the following students who are celebrating a birthday in the next two weeks: Ariana, Hirday, Reeshita, Miller, Katherine, Alex, Aniya, Roberta, Lucas A., John, Ray, Adam B., Gene and Ritviksinh.

Ride2school August 2019

Why ride to school? Did you know school aged students require a minimum of 60 minutes per day to maintain a healthy lifestyle?

Encouraging your children to ride, walk or scoot to and from school can help them reach their daily requirement of physical activity.

Over the past 40 years, the number of children who are physically active every day has significantly declined. In the 1970s, 8 out of 10 students rode or walked to school – today the national average is only 2 out of 10.

Tips for riding to school

Do some practice rides on the weekends so you and your child are comfortable with the ride and you know how long it will take.

Choose the safest route, even if it’s a bit longer.

Part way is OK … Even parking 500–750m away from the school gate and walking the last five minutes still gives your children the opportunity to get a bit of fresh air and activity before they start their school day.

Team up with neighbours or school mates.

If you don’t have a bike – ride a scooter or just walk.

Always wear a helmet.

Book Week Character Parade 2019 “Reading is my Super Power” Each year, across Australia, The CBCA brings children and books together celebrating Children’s Book Week. During this time Schools, Libraries, Booksellers, Authors, Illustrators and children celebrate Australian Children’s Literature.

The Reservoir Primary Book Week Character Parade is always a highlight of the school year, with students and teachers making costumes from their favourite books, and dressing up on Parade Day. We would like to thank all students for making such a great effort in creating their costumes and Parents/Carers, Grandparents and other family members for attending and supporting this event.

FABLES FROM GROUP 7 THE BOY WHO FAILED There is a boy named Terry who thought he was the smartest. He always played video games and never studied. One day his teacher told the class there would be a test in one month, and of course Terry didn’t study. When the test came the teacher told the class that this would be 40% of their grade. When the test began Terry didn’t understand any of the questions! In the end he failed the test and got a low grade. Terry always studied for a test from that day on. This fable is written and typed by Abbey (the message is never think you are the best).

The Hamster Who Tried To Fit In Once upon a time a hamster was invited to a party but he was alone. He saw lots of animals there so he decided to make a friend, he went up to a fox and a wolf and tried to become friends with them but they realised that he was a hamster so the wolf and fox left so he dressed up as a fox and tried again but they realised and kicked him out. He started crying and crying. Then all of the sudden a rabbit told him some very wise words “Don’t try to be someone you’re not because some people will always accept you.” And since this day, they’re besties. By Despoina Don’t be rude to others by Neisha The person behind the mobile screen got mad and sent something bad about the other person. It started to be a big problem and the argument wouldn’t stop. It was getting worse, day by day. The “two people” were ignoring each other for a few months, they haven’t looked at each other. Suddenly when they were walking they bumped into each other but they were too scared to say something bad about each other in front of their face. So they apologised to each other for what they had done and they became friends again. Message: Think before you act

The rabbit, the fox and the hare One day a rabbit and a hare were picking berries for lunch. As they went home they met a fox. He asked them if they wanted to play, the rabbit went to play. But the hare stopped him and reminded him they had to get home before it gets dark. The rabbit ignored him the hare hopped home and the rabbit went to play. Soon enough the fox fooled the rabbit and ate him. When you’ve got your mind on something don’t get distracted By Mustafa The Fox and the Lion One day there was a fox and a lion in a forest, they were best friends. One day the lion wanted to joke around, so they did that every day, then they had a race, rolled around in the grass and then the lion called the fox ‘You’re the worst grass roller’ as a joke. But the fox said it wasn’t a joke and left the lion. The next day the lion found the fox and tried to say sorry but the fox left the lion and never went back to him again. Moral: Be careful of what you say. By Andy The shark and the fish! One day a shark went out to go and find some food, and saw a bright, glowing Gold Fish. The shark wanted to get the Gold Fish’s attention. So it swam around the Gold Fish. The Gold Fish saw the shark and said “Hello”. The Gold Fish asked if the shark could help it find his way home. So the shark led it home…little did the Gold Fish know…! Instead of taking the Gold Fish home…the shark took the Gold Fish in the middle of nowhere. Before the Gold Fish got to speak, the Shark said “Good Luck” and laughed with an evil smile on his face! The shark opened his mouth and was about to eat the Gold Fish…but the Gold Fish had already swam away as fast as he could! Moral: Think before You act. By: Tiana
