Life Education Put simply, Life Education cares about Australian children. They have an active passion for the health and well-being of the next generation of Australia. Their mobile learning centres provide a unique learning environment and their trained educators use an innovative teaching and learning approach to engage students. They provide the information, understanding, skills and strategies students require to make safe decisions about their own health and well-being. This year at Hebersham the mobile learning van will be visiting us. The visits will take place for all K- 2 students in Week 7 beginning on Tuesday 11 through to Friday 14 June. Kindergarten program - Harold’s Friend Ship – Harold’s Friend Ship explores the qualities of a good friend, feelings and emotions, early warning signs, and safe and unsafe situations in a fun and interactive learning experience. Stage 1 program - Safety Rules – Safety Rules investigates safety in a range of situations and environments, people and places to go to for help, and how friends can care for and support each other The cost per child is $10 which includes the Life Education session, a student workbook and sticker for each child. Permission notes and payment were

handed out to your child in week 4. All notes and payments are to be returned to the front office. Thank you!

Advice Concerning Head Lice We have had recent cases of head lice throughout the school. Please check your child’s head for head lice tonight and commence treatment if you find any eggs or lice. A handy tip to prevent the spread of head lice is to spray tea tree oil in your child’s hair or hat.

Further information on head lice is available in English on the NSW Health website and the NSW Department of Education websites at:

Attendance at School

The Education Act (1990) requires parents to ensure that children of compulsory school age attend school on each day that the school is open for instruction. If children are absent from school, parents are required to provide the school with an acceptable explanation within seven days of the absence. Reminder notes are automatically generated from the school’s data system to parent and carers about unexplained absences. You are kindly requested to return the slip to the school so that the roll can be updated with a reason for your child’s absence. Exemptions for attendance due to travel overseas or extended medical issues, can be applied for from the school’s office in person or by phone request.

I am obliged to report apparent unresolved non-compliance with the Education Act (1990) to the local manager of the region’s Home School Liaison Program.

Bike Racks- Coming Soon Classes are busy holding road safety lessons in preparation for the installation of our school bike racks. In term 3 students can begin riding their bikes to school. A note will go home

detailing the rules of our bike racks along with parental permission requirements.

Hebersham Bike Rack rules: ALL STUDENTS MUST:

NO SCOOTERS, SKATEBOARDS OR SKATES

ARE ALLOWED

To show our support for farming families our school has decided to join the ‘Adopt a Farmer’ campaign to help raise much needed funds. On Thursday 13th June all students are asked to dress up as farmers for the day and donate as many coins as they can to help form a coin line for their class. The class with the longest line and the class who raises the most money will win a pizza lunch. Let’s all get busy and start collecting coins to make our Farmer Day Fundraiser a huge success!

Library Roof Replacement The library roof is still under construction for another week. The area will be closed off to all students, staff and community. Classes will run as normal during the construction. The 3-6 QUAD will still be used for playtime.

‘BE SAFE’

Near and In SCHOOL

Car Parking in School Grounds Please be aware that car park spaces within school grounds are restricted to school staff and administration personnel. There are allocated disabled parking spaces available in the front school car park for special transport buses and parents who hold a disabled parking permit. For the safety of our students and staff please refrain from using the back car space for picking up students. This area is for teaching staff only. If you are dropping off or picking up your child and you hold a current disabled parking permit you must use the available spaces in the front school car park. Please ensure you use these spaces in a timely manner as we have a number of parents and carers who require access to these reserved spaces. Please DO NOT park in our neighbours driveways. Our neighbours need to be able to access their driveways at any time of the day.

‘BE SAFE’ Near SCHOOL

Take care of the children at Hebersham PS.

Drive carefully and drive slowly. Park safely.

Pride Awards Pride Awards are presented in classrooms along with Work of the Week and Merit Awards. The Principal and Deputy Principal walk through all classrooms to present the awards and recognise children’s achievements. Pride Awards also earn House points. The House points go towards the House Shield that is presented at the end of the year.
