The Church was very important in Medieval life, not just in
England but across Europe too. The head of The Church was The Pope
and he lived in Rome, Italy. Some men within the organisation of
The Catholic Church were as important as barons and even some
kings. The people believed everything the Catholic Church said or
taught for fear of being damned to hell.
EVERYBODY went to church on a Sunday and other holy days!
Full sentences:Who was in charge of the Catholic Church and why
did people do and believe what they said?

One of the most important points about the Middle Ages was that
up to 90% of the people were illiterate, meaning they couldn’t
read.
So they best way to get images of hell (everlasting pain,
suffering and torture) and therefore scare them into behaving and
following the teachings of The Church was to paint hell, clear and
scary.
These paintings became known as the Doom Paintings.
