Lesson 2
Bell Ringer:
In your own words explain what is
“conduction”, “convection” and “radiation”
and give me an example of each one.
• Heat Transfer Song (Source 2) – Mister C https://youtu.be/6sUOMds_zmE
• The Heating Song https://youtu.be/SYnP4TGOGRY
• Conduction, Convection and Radiation – Untamed Science https://youtu.be/NbtVpqYKJWM
• Water Cycle Song Video https://youtu.be/TWb4KlM2vts
• Water Cycle Rap Song https://youtu.be/yNW1evt93e4
• Teacher will review conduction, convection and radiation again (explained last class)
How Heat Transfers:
• Heat always flows (moves) from warm material to cooler material until it reaches the same temperature.
• Heat transfers (moves) through conduction, convection, and radiation.
Conduction - is the transfer of heat from one molecule to another through a substance. As one molecule is heated it begins to move and shake rapidly. As it does so, it passes some of its heat energy to other molecules around it. Through this process, all the molecules of an object pass heat from one to another until they are all hot.
Convection - The motion of warm liquids or gases that rises, cools off, and sinks again, producing a continuous circulation of liquids or gases and transfer of heat.
Radiation - Electromagnetic waves that directly transport ENERGY through space. Sunlight is a form of radiation that is radiated through space to our planet without the aid of fluids or solids.
