Different systems for getting mechanical energy from Heat energy

• Sterling engine• Diesel engine • Petrol engine • Gas turbine

What is a Sterling Engine?• Reciprocating engine.

• External combustion (get heat from external source).

• Converts heat energy into mechanical power by alternately compressing and expanding a fixed quantity of the working fluid at different temperatures.

• Work on both conventional and non conventional sources

• Efficient , clean & silent

• Can reach effiency of 50%

What is a Diesel Engine ?

• Internal Combustion Engine

• Operates Using Diesel Cycle

• Manufactured in two stroke and four stroke versions

What is a Petrol Engine ?

• Internal Combustion Engine

• Operates Using Otto Cycle

• Manufactured in two stroke and four stroke versions

• Run at higher rotation speeds than diesels

• A Gas turbine is a Turbo-machine and basically similar to steam turbine regarding its working principle

• The first turbine to produce useful work was probably a wind mill, where no compression and no combustion exist

• Now a days gas turbine include a compression process and combustion process.

• Joule and brayton independently proposed the cycle that is the ideal prototype

What is a Gas turbine?
