WMU NEWS MARCH 2020

March is here and soon it will be Spring. We’ve had enough rain to insure “greening of the hills”. When we think of March, our thoughts turn to basketball and March Madness, the coming of Spring, windy days just right for kite flying. March is also about the special of-fering for NAMB (Home Missions) or the Annie Arm-strong offering. One hundred percent of all gifts go to the Mission field for church plantings and compassion ministries across the US, Canada and their territories.

This year our WMU is inviting the church to participate in “Egg Money for Annie” mission project. The first Sunday in March there will be pint jars, decorated by our children and mission groups, available for you to take home along with the accompanying March calen-dar. Each day in March has a specific challenge which is used to make contributions to your “egg money”. At the end of the month, convert your coins to dollars or a check and place in either a church envelop or special Annie Armstrong envelopes. Any additional contribu-tions you wish to give will go a long way to reaching out church goal of $4500.

Hopefully you will enjoy this special mission project and use it to learn about our home missions and teach our children the importance of missions in our country and world.

The gray haired and the aged are among us" Job 15:10. Our Pampering and Prayers met February 15 to cele-brate Virginia Cox reconizing her upcoming 100th birthday April 25. Eight of us enjoyed her sharing growing up memories, funnies and advice. She present-ed each girl a frog to reminder them to Fully Rely On God. She remembered Billy Graham's daughter sharing this years ago when she attended her Bible Study. We took cupcakes, ice cream, punch and each girl presented her a useful gift. As we departed, Virginia prayed the most beautiful precious prayer. She was so thankful and appreciative of the visit. Girls took home food bags. A new girl joined us. Thank you to Nancy Huffines for caring and sharing enough to give her hair-cut/style, manicure and new outfit. To quote AMS counselor "Thank you ladies for being so good to our girls at AMS. This one really needs something positive in her life."

Kid's food bags-246 weekly to AES and AMS went out early in February due to snow days and teacher work days. Valentine candy boxes and treats for each food bag. We have changed our packing schedule to Tues-days 12-1 at our site. Thank you Kid's Food Bag Min-istry workers for ALL you do to feed hungry kids. Thank you sister churches for ALL you do. We work so good together.

At request of AES pull on pants for boys and girls; in case of accidents at school.

Operation Help/Hope food and personal care items to families.

Thank you church for seeing that we have a warm roomy place to work in these ministries.

God Bless You ALL

Nancy

YOUNG AT HEARTS

About 40 people attended the annual Jake Buchanan Sweetheart Banquet on Sunday evening, February 9, in spite of the "iffy" weather. In addition to the yummy food, there were opportunities to have updated pictures taken, and Tammie Johnson did a great job again at capturing some smiling faces. Then Ronney Craig moderated the game, "How Well Do You Know Your Spouse?" with some not-so-newlywed couples. Contestants for the game were Pastor Calvin and Mrs. Janet, Steve and Tammie Johnson, and Eddie and Rebecca Wood. It was a lot of fun, and Steve and Tammie were declared the winners. They got to go home with a box of Whitman's Chocolates.

Then Pastor Calvin pointed out that some VERY newlywed cou-ples were in the group, namely Youth Pastor Evan and Cassie Nix-on, who had been married less than a year; and Rance and Mac-kenzie Rogers, who had been married had been married a little more than a month, and they graciously agreed to play a round of the game, too. Several folks contributed to coming up with some new questions, and everyone enjoyed a good time.

The March Young At Heart luncheon on Thursday, March 19, will be an Ethnic Food Meal and a Travelogue by J.R. and Sandra Marr. On the sign-up sheet you can indicate what kind of food you plan to bring: Mexican, Italian, German, Greek, Chinese, or Amer-ican. All seniors (anyone nifty 50 or older) are welcome to attend. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. You could even wear an outfit representative of a different country, if you would like!

Those especially "standing in the need of prayer" include Judy Brooks in the Asheville Hospital, Virginia Adams and Gary Kauff-man healing from major surgery, continued healing and strength-ening of Faye Parker's and Fred West's knee replacements, and Betty Franks facing surgery on both her legs. Continue to pray for June Brooks, Cricket Gray, Neil and Modean McKeehan, Virginia Cox, Harlace and Pat Sealy, Donald and Joyce Hogan, Kent and Marna Chapman, and Ray Hyde. Pray for the ministry to the homeless and others that we feed Monday nights, that they will be filled with physical food, as well as spiritual food, and that the fellowship will be sweet. Pray that those who serve them will radi-ate the love of Jesus to them.

Pray for the health of Christian family relationships around the world; there are others out there "praying" for the destruction of the family unit as we know it. Pray for our brothers and sisters in the persecuted church around the world, and be thankful for the freedoms we still enjoy. Pray for the upcoming Primary elections, that folks will get elected who value the sanctity of life and have a testimony for Christ. Pray for Pastor Calvin and his family, dea-cons and their families, Evan and Cassie Nixon and others working with the youth, Jennifer Farr and musicians, choir members, teach-ers and leaders in the various Sunday ministry and Wednesday evening classes, and each one who has a unique part in making Andrews First Baptist Church a lighthouse for Jesus. Remember our college students, high school and middle school students, and those in elementary school; as well as teachers and staff in our schools, that they may let their lights shine for Jesus.
