The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, a volunteer-based health charity, leads in eliminating heart disease and stroke and reducing their impact through the advancement of research and its application, the promotion of healthy living, and advocacy.

• To earn the Health Check symbol all foods and restaurants must meet the nutrient criteria
• Nutrient criteria is always changing to reflect current scientific evidence, federal regulations and the HSF recommendations
• There have been recent changes to sugar, fat, sodium, and fibre

• HSF was a key member of the national Sodium Working Group
• Recommendations to assist decrease in intake to 1200 mg – 2300 mg by 2020
