Is your hearing aid not working properly? There are a few basic

causes of hearing aid malfunction that you may be able to fix

yourself!

To reduce these problems from happening again, we have provided a few suggestions to help you at home. If you are ever uncertain

about handling your hearing aid, contact your hearing healthcare professional!

In order for your hearing aid to function properly, sound must be able to enter the

microphone, travel through the circuitry within the

hearing aid and then exit into the ear canal. The

process of sound travel can be easily disrupted by

obstructions, equipment breakdowns or user error.

Common hearing aid problems:

 If your hearing

“whistles” in the ear:The device is blocked with ear wax- change

the wax filter and brush device clean

with dry towel.

If the volume of your hearing aid drops:

Low battery- replace the battery

Moisture in device- put device in drying box over

nightThe device is blocked

with ear wax- change the wax filter and brush device clean with dry

towel.

If the hearing aid is not working at all:

There is no battery in device- insert new battery

The battery is dead- replace with new battery

The battery door is not closed completely- shut

battery door.

If your hearing aid hurts your ear:

The device is not properly positioned- remove device and

re-insert it.

If your hearing aid is difficult to insert:

Use a small drop of lubricant to smear, like Oto-Ease, on the hearing aid portion inserting

your hearing aid.
